  • I will be getting a welder later this month. Having dimensions would be a good idea. Yea the engine probably is ported already, but I don't know what that means and don't know how to port my engine. I know how a tuned pipe works, I just don't know how to make a good one because I don't know how to find the dimensions for the engines. I want to make one for a 21.1cc and 33cc weed eater.

  • that's cool, the sizes on your pipe depend on the engine size, port timing, all of that stuff. sounded really nice on the video. The reason I was asking was that I want to make one like you did but for a weedeater to give it more power, torque, and top speed.

  • Can you tell me how you made it? Did you use a program to make it? Do you gave any diagrams or measurements for making one? Works really well and sounds powerful.

  • @tylerturnbull1 Hi Tyler, I will try and point you in the right direction. I didn't use a program to design the pipe. I did the calculations by hand based off the Blair three stage diffuser design. Somewhere, I have diagrams and measurements for this one and others i designed but decided not to build. But remember that the dimensions for the pipe are engine specific. They are based upon a number of parameters that are unique to my engine, like port timing and exhaust temperature.

    Tyler, You will need to take the measurements required off of your engine if you really want to get decent performance out of the pipe/engine combination.

    The pipe itself is all hand formed using 16 gauge sheet metal. I used a collection of sockets, vises, and hammers to get the cones to the desired diameters. And then proceeded to fit and weld the pieces together.

  • @rclosiracer thats nice to know, yeah, to really make an effective chamber you have to measure all of that, i'll have to try that sometime. I took one off of a moped kit that I made last summer and made a connecter header from an old carburetor, and then added a muffler because of the insane loudness from it. works pretty well, works best for mid end to top end power.not really homemade, but still cool. I should show you a video of it.

  • @tylerturnbull1 I wanted to make mine from the connector, to a cone going from smaller to larger diameter, a cylinder, then a cone going from larger to smaller, and the end pipe. I should draw a basic drawing on my idea and show that to you as well.

  • @tylerturnbull1 Cool! I used to do things just like that. And I understand exactly what you are describing. That sounds like the right idea. Do you have a welder? I can give you some rough dimensions for a pipe based on estimations if you want. You might want to mess around with porting the engine instead. There is quite a bit less work involved with that but be warned, you can damage your engine forever if you mess up.I know most weedeaters are ported for torque from the factory

  • @rclosiracer As well as fuel economy. So you should be able to make it a lot faster and more powerful. Also keep in mind that weedeaters are not really performance engines and are not designed to handle too much power.
