I would imagine you would need the foam cleaned out of your lungs as well. Some home insulation works like this, but it takes hours to set and while it does, you have to stay out of the house due to the fumes.
well if freezing is an issue then instead of the foam shooting at your face how about shoot it in a bag instead of air shooting in an airbag? so it can be called foambags!
Ever wondered why deodorant (the aerosol) always feels cold to your skin when you apply it? For the same reason a refrigerator stays cool. A certain substance is pressurized, and when it is suddenly released it wants to expand. To expand in such a short amount of time you need alot of energy. This energy is taken from the surrounding air in the form of heat.
Stallone would freeze to death in an instant because the foam expands so rapidly it takes all the warmth out of him and the air around him.
@GulliNL Damn, dude ... the car traveled through the air about 100 metres and crashed through a window into a giant indoor pool. Do you really think, the foam would freeze him?
Well, in reality. Yes. But this is a f'king movie! Reality rules do not apply here!
@GulliNL Commonly, foams use a chemical reaction to fill them. I would geuss that the foam wasn't stored under pressure, but rather than a chemical reaction led it to expand; thus not freezing him.
@GulliNL Well, if were being this specific about it, what if the process the foam uses to solidify is exothermic? balancing out the possibility of it depressurising.
That, btw, is assuming it is under pressure. From the looks of it, it is a liquid that reacts when in contact with air to expand and solidify - not necessary a liquid under pressure - you'd expect it to become gasous when released, not solidifying.
@GulliNL Wrong. Think exposure-time to this temperature. If it kills, it could do so by hinder breathing (imaging getting knocked out by the impact as the foam splashes into the mouth/nose).
This actually looks like something that could be utilized in real-life. Is there any research on replacing the "shotgun-in-your-face" airbags with something like this?

It DID make him a central air pocket, so there'd be time to punch out or punch in.
(Or perhaps the foam allows air through, but nothing else?)
