  • 2:20 look at the draw distance!!!!! amazing!! this was in 1994!!! WTF??

  • unfortunately, racing games are dying with cool cars

  • it was rare to see working dials in a driving back then

  • my 3do was stolen when my flat got robbed, otherwise I would have never got rid of it or this game, this is still the best game in tnfs entire series, most wanted was ok'ish but no cockpit and againg flashy blingy rather than a propper driving game.

Hey if this came out as an xbox arcade download how cool would that be!

  • This was a fantastic game,And still is,I played it last night and its great fun,and to be honest has a better feeling of speed than TDU2,yes really.

  • Sadly games like this will never be made again as kids of today would flame it for being boring :/once they announced Dreamcast was ending gaming was officially dead and buried imo.

  • @Johfunu

get a grip. look at how amazing the games are today & now with COD 6 & battlefield 3 things are getting beyond amazing

  • @h2oextremepcs COD and BF are terrible games. I wouldnt expect you to understand though. Of course the graphics are good but they have lost the point of gaming. It shouldn't be about realism its about the arcade fun you have, and sadly neither of those games provide that arcade quality and thats the biggest problem with games today. The only company that still provides arcade entertainment is Sega.

  • i remember when i got ps1 this is the first game i played

  • Someone should make a remake for iPhone.

  • advanced for its time they should remake this type of racing

  • for its time it looks really great and what is sad it the fact they have the cockpit view and it shows when you shift, shit now racing game of today standard does that at all and about over 98% of them do not have a cockpit view espically as nice as this one for the nsx. well you can win them all its all about making money and not backing up the product anymore.

  • I love the original NFS. It still pisses on all the sequels in my opinion. I remember how amazed I was when I first played it. The graphics were stunning for the time.

  • this is the only game i know that realisticly shows how a radar detector works against constant on .(well the most real in a game anyhow ) and it feels more like driving than anything else out there today.

  • as soon as underground, carbon and similar junk bring them cash, they wil never return to old school classic like the first NFS..its shame. I think this one with the NFS3:HP were the best.. (maybe Porsche challenge too)

  • That really is amazing graphics for 1994...at that time i was playing games like Mario and Sonic and many other 2D games but wow this beats them all and what i find shocking the most is hardly any pop up on the buildings in front. Even in the days of PS1 and Saturn there was some terrible pop up on racing games.

  • i love driving the NSX *sigh* good times :)

  • @xTHExLEGEND yepp, me too, it's an unforgettable experience to drive it on 3DO from the inside :)

  • @TomeeDee86 heck yeah :)

  • Ha I was always in this car, best in the series, best platform version!!!

  • the best need for speed ever made!

    I MISS OF THIS TIME

  • Now, this is racing.

  • graphics look better on this game for 3do than ps1 graphics does

    3do ROCKS!!!!!!!

  • The best old NFS is High Stakes of 1999. EA should make a remake of it with better graphics, more tracks and cars. I think it will be huge success. I have always liked NFS' for there were ONLY exotic cars and even prototypes, and I like modern NFS' less because there are no protoypes and there are common cars.

  • The graphic is so horrible, look at nfs shift now awesime

  • Looks as good as the standards PS1 games. Much better than laugh titles like Goal Storm and ESPN Extreme games.

  • Amazing draw distance for its time. I've always enjoyed winding out the 512R.

  • This game looks awesome for the time and better than the Saturn version. I think I need to buy a 3DO and this.

  • Wow this looks great for the time, sad i missed it when it came out, what the hell if they could make games like that back then on 3D0 it should have been king.

  • arms2, you hit it right on the head, dude, this was the best driving game at the time and I will always like it 10X better than the PS1 version--rumor had it there was a stunt track on the 3DO version that you could unlock with a cheat, but I never found it--I did find the machine gun cheat, when u hit the horn, all the cars in the vicinity would go flying up and spin around LOL, but the tradeoff was, every little bump would register as a full collision and you would stop.

  • This is an excellent-looking game for 1994. The draw distance is massive 32-bit!

  • Crazy, eh. This was pre PS1 and looks soo much better than the first racing games it had...

  • BTW I just love that soft thud sound of switching gears. This video is so unwinding just what you should experience in real supercar on a sunday afternoon (well any day will do) after a long hectic week.

  • Just look at those graphics and car slide physics. NFS people need to see these videos to see what truely made this NFS the best. Real time scenery, curvy roads not hateful corners that people like me who just use the keyboard to play go mad. Just put pedal to the metal and watch your car whiz by the normal traffic. After all what good is a supercar if you are busy breaking and cornering in today's crappy NFS Hollywoodish story modes as opposed to what this video shows, pure speed without any BS

  • Agree. What we can see by reading the comments is that people who actually drives and enjoy driving (like myself)prefers the older versions of this game. Why? As you said - fun and fast tracks, dashboard view, fast curves, no trash traffic that makes u break and bump all the time (like the NFS undercover), good and realistic car handling... good old days. The only thing better today are (in a certain way) the grafics and the sound of the cars.

  • If they made this game again on the ps3

with more cars and 2 player split screen, and throw in a few bikes it would be very popular indeed. this is what need for speed should be now. why did they change it.

    i love this game.

  • Wish i stil had the 3do the playstation version of this wasnt as good but the 1 good feature it did have was n4s 1 had the day or night

  • This is the real need for speed!

Great graphics for a 94 game, pretty impressive and the cockpit is awesome too.

  • I love this game. Only for 3do. this is the best driving game ever made. i vow to be reunited with this game bfor i expire

  • imagine.. this game is more than 15 years old.. WOW!!!!!! i remember playing myself this thing, panasonic kicked Playstation's ass back than too bad they never made anything after this..

  • For 1994 these graphics were unbelievable. I still think they hold up well today.

  • true

  • @Andyc18 yeah but stupid framerate ehehhee

  • @Andyc18 yepp, i asked my uncle to bid on ebay for a 3DO with that game and bring one to me to hungary, i'd really like one :) i hope he'll bring one, i'd be very glad... :D

and yes, for '94 these graphics were revolutionary, and i still don't think these graphics are that crappy... today's most people only watch the graphics, but there's no such game experience anymore then in these days.... i better prefer a 3DO, then an X360 or a PS3... :P some people really underestimate this fine console..

  • @Andyc18 fricking cockpit view dude!!!

  • Sneaky game programmers. In order to not show the city streets, with people, or actually animate the buildings while showing them rooted to the ground. The programmers put up cement walls along the entire track.

  • I got my 3DO and this game for Christmas in '94. I played this game religiously for hours at a time for several years before my 3DO crapped out. So many good memories. I miss my 3DO. My favorite console to date.

  • that explains the real video cut scenes in need for speed most wanted sorry the oldest need for speed i got to play was need for speed 2 wich felt more like a concept car showdown now i recently played "the need for speed" and woa its dated but i really get the feeling of it its just a great game when they pulled need for speed hot pursuit 2 they were testing the waters for something like this again even though underground was a bomb and game mags were calling ea stupid for doing this.

  • they don't make games that good any more

  • what the hell?! 100 times better driving in this vid.

  • Graphics and engine sounds were awesome back then. Porsche had the best handling and the Supra was suprisingly fast imo.

  • Comment removed

  • For me the original nfs is that you cruise in the real american mountains with super sportcars... underground is not nfs for me...

  • best nfs ever

  • those cops r useless...

  • Hey guys, does anyone knows where I can find this Need For Speed for PC and PSX?

  • The NFS1 version i had was a little different (civilian vehicles, etc.) but I miss this game. It was the first game i got on my PS1 that i got when i was in like the third grade (about '98-99). Thanx for posting.

  • I love watching the buildings jump... Soo realistic! LOL I'm gonna play this on my 3DO just to get a laugh!

  • NFS needs to return to its roots. Even if they have sport compacts (which I think is good to include), they need to just make it a pure driving experience without all the ricey NAWS and VTAK and aluminum spoilers and stupid JDM tyte neon lights everywhere. There aren't enough DRIVING games anymore, which I prefer to racing games anyday.

  • YOU BET! to much street-race BS!

get back to an enjoyable driving/racing mix! of fast exotics etc. and for god sake daytime options! it all went pear-shaped after High Stakes.

    (imo)

  • Oh man I couldn't agree more! I've been thinking that for awhile. I havn't bought any racing sims in about 10yrs. I went looking just to see what is available in stores now and there isn't squat compared to what there used to be. Anyone remember Test Drive, Vette, Stunt Driver, Stunts, etc? I don't go for the ricy NOS games. Bring back the good stuff!

  • Gonna get test drive unlimited for 360 this week. It looks to me like a true sequal to this game, just hope it has the same physics aswell!

This game has yet to be beeten in terms of driving sim!

  • @neogeon I totally agree with you man. I always thought that NFS Underground with its tuner cars were for people who wanted to live out their 'The Fast and the Furious' fantasies. Im sure you have seen the trailer for Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, due for release in November. NFS is returning to its roots at long last.

  • @JayRicci7891 i hope you're right, but i think that's not really exact :)

because the original NFS (how craig sullivan said), so this is the ORIGINAL NFS... here weren't any spikestrips, EMP-s, and whatsoever.... the cops just stopped you like a normal speeder... and i think this was right... this was the most realistic and most experienced NFS i've ever played, and yeah, i played all of them, but i won't anymore, if the new hot pursuit is like burnout (it'll be made by criterion :)) let's hope

  • @neogeon dont worry..there is Test Drive Unlimited..a.. xD prety old comment

  • @naik2222 actually, TDU 2 is coming out later this year. Seeing as I use a Mac (not a PC), I refuse to buy anything from Microsoft (no failBox for me), and the PS2 version of the original sucks, TDU 2 for PS3 is going to rock my socks off.

  • @neogeon you've got a very good point, i think exactly the same way! i don't think nowadays there'll be a driving game like this, cuz' today every racing game is fully arcade, except the simulators, but they are set on racetracks with racecars... i'd like to see a driving game like this, where tracks are segmented, so u don't have to drive laps, you have traffic, and cops, but cops aren't the main thing, they catch you like in reality with no explosions, and i also miss the realistic handling...

  • @TomeeDee86 Well, there is Test Drive Unlimited and the sequel is coming out soon, that's about the closest out there. Need for Speed: Shift has a few decent real world-like courses as well and those are definitely fun to hot lap. Best of all: interior views are back! Still, the original NFS sure was cool...

  • @neogeon it's not the same, SHIFT was set on closed tracks, i don't wanna drive on race tracks, i wanna drive segments in a city, coast, or alpine again, maybe some other environments... and TDU is just like sims with cars, it ain' the same either... nothing can bring back that NFS feeling... and i also don't really like free roam....

  • @TomeeDee86 Sims with cars??? have you actually played TDU? TDU is the best "NFS" nowadays. shure, u have a "sim" to walk into showrooms, houses but thats all. the feeling of the driving exotic fast cars, the open Roads, Traffic to avoid, especially on fast bikes, is great fun!

  • @neogeon Hot Pursuit is sure a step in the right direction, has to be said.

  • @neogeon

Midtown Madness 3 was an awesome game for just cruising around without having to race. But you could race also.

  • Right now hooked up to my TV i'm rockin the NES, SNES, 3DO, PS2, XBOX, GAMECUBE, and Wii. Yup, an actual 3DO, as it happens Need for Speed is in there. This was the first NFS right? And in my opinion the best. Very realistic for it's time.

  • Wait, did they actually have police chases in the first Need For Speed?

  • in this one they did, but I think you had to set it to that option. I MISS MY 3DO!

  • yes, only in head-to-head mode.

  • OMFG. This is what NFS should have been. But EA just won't remake it because of their owner. They even cancelled out RA3!

  • skön grafik inne ibilen :P mätaren rör sig ,

  • I love this game!! I regret not using the NSX as much as the other cars. I didn't like how the game made it seem like the slowest car. But who knew that the most hated car became the most loved one for me :P

  • WTF, did this game run on the 3DO!?

  • this game came out on 3DO before it did on the PS and Saturn. it was originally designed for the 3DO and ported to the other systems.

  • This was my favorite car to drive in this game even though it was the second slowest. I loved the style of it and the sound of the engine...so smooth.

  • I loved this game for the PC. The Testarossa was my fav!

  • maybe it was the best.. but its just too old now... and i cant get the sound to work on my PC :P

  • its so fucking fast no need for speed game can keep up with this speed xD

    i love the Lamborghini Diablo

  • the nsx had the longest 6th gear ever.

  • es muy pulento

  • was this the first need for speed ?

  • yeah

  • I own this game for Sega Saturn! This is how the NFS series should have always been. Street Racing, open road & circuit tracks. My favourite car was the Accura! ;) the one the player is driving in this vid.

  • This is the best 2 player racing game ever. They Should remake it just with updated graphics.

  • funny thing about the 3D0 version was it was only one player. And the Diablo was really difficult to get up to 202mph. Where as on the Playstation and saturn versions, it was much easier.

  • It is still a very awesome game to play on a rainy day.

  • Road & Track: The Need For Speed is actually, THE BEST of the series. A totally outstanding game.

  • I comment on the Alpine course about missing my 3DO i miss it like hell I had gave my dad my Goldstar one back in 98 i think and sadly he died this past April 2007 which i wanna get it back now since he's gone but a part of me dont wanna see it will bring back memories of my dad i am sad indeed.

  • I had a 3DO when I lived in my home country. I moved to another country and it didn't work because of the video signal! (PAL/NTSC) Damn! And I had NFS too. I miss my 3DO so much ;_;"

  • Se tu é bom mesmo pega um RX7 e coloca contra uma Lamborghini Diablo pra ver o negocio

    Como uma cara aquí fez

  • Certainly it may be the very first one - but I enjoy playing it more than many of the later ones!!!

  • best racing game ever

  • Great Driving! You got the right skills it's just the non-analog control on the 3DO sucks! This game is best played in analog like a Steering Wheel.

  • The greatest race game of all time. I bought the 3DO and this game with my tax return. I played this game to death and no other racer will ever touch it!!!

  • All-time favorite 3DO game! Second slowest car in the game (Acura NSX), but my favorite car and my favorite track for speed. I played this game into the grave.

  • definitely this is the mother of all racing games.if not 4 NFS 2 born,we wont b seeing gran turismo n others 2day.

  • the 3do version was immense, i played it to death and loved it, this was the benchmark for me and none of the sequals came close to being this good.

  • Thanks for upping the vids. This game was great. I was randomly thinking about it and decided to check youtube. I played this version in a store for like 45 minutes and then bought it for PSX. I stil enjoyed it but it just wasn't as good as the 3DO version. But 3DO was crazy expensive :-/

  • dont make them like they used too

3do version was best, got crap after, its the only racing game I can remember where I only wanted to race from the in cockpit view
