We saw a black guy shopping with white friends in the grocery store at Deer Valley. THe store was PACKED with white folks. The black guy was overheard saying "I'm the only brotha in this place."

Funny stuff. I lived in the Roaring fork valley (downvalley from Aspen)and I had one of the only black guys around as a friend. It was funny to observe people's reactions--I remember a party we went to and a couple of the people saying to me:'where'd you meet him?'or'how do you know him?' but in a really admirable way, like I was extra-cool and that he was a sort of 'liberal-cool' trophy they envied.
Way back in the day, me and my black self and my girlfriend and her black self did a day trip to Vail, Aspen and other resort towns. Everywhere we ventured, we experienced some degree of startled surprise. However, I must say that in Aspen we were treated casually and felt welcome being there. Vail and elsewhere? Completely opposite. These days when I go, I don't feel as aware that I am in the minority as we did all those years ago.
The locals seem very cool about it, I like there reactions. But isn't it funny how there are so many Jokes at blacks expense on YOUTUBE and all the white viewers say get it over it its just a joke, but when its switched around those same people are upset and start name calling?

Superdoug2,I hope that you're proud of being from Canada?I simply love,love Canada and if there is one thing that you Canadians are blessed with it's that you do not have the racial head-aches that we americans have to put up with here between blacks and whites.I know that 2.5% of Canada's population is black and most of them as you mentioned come oringinally from the carribbean(much better class of people indeed!)and africa.Vancouver is a great city and Victoria is lovely also!

I find it totally amusing that some whites on this post will say things like " who would want to touch a filthy nigger, when in fact 100 percent of american born blacks have white blood running through them i guess some you guys felt like touching...lol and as far as destroying communities thats funny too because every major enviromental horror has been caused by whites, so sweep around your own front door before you try to sweep around mine.

Don't you have a job? As I said, I've been out west and seen black people ski. Many of my black friends ski. What's the big deal? Not once have I seen any hard core racists like yourself in the small ski towns I've been to. Stop trying to force your views on everyone on You Tube. You need to get a life.

Did you happen to notice that people are coming up to him and being very friendly? Not all white people think like you do. I happen to be black and I ski. Been skiing in Montana, Utah and Col. Not once did I feel unwanted. Actually the people I met went out of their way to be nice to me. So do us all a favor and just stay in your hillbilly world and rot.

Hilarious. Just got back from Aspen. I saw three. Total. In a week. My girlfriend and I even commented that it would suck to come here if you were black. You'd look like a white kid in a riot. Completely out of place. ;)

Yes, Aspen is not very culturally diverse, but it costs too much to live there I can see why. I was there for 12 years, living outside of Aspen in a trailer. I'm now in Las Vegas and we see all cultures here - what a trip!
