choose a guy(or gal) with 3 mushrooms. i personally go 4 luigis streamliner. then powerslide 1ce every corner. stay as close to the grass as possible without touching it. use all 3 mushrooms on the back straight on the 2nd lap. you get a fast lap time and a time of under 1:37

You have to drift off of your starting boost, and not brake the drift for the entire length of the course. This allows you to go through the entire course at a speed even higher than the usual power boost speed, and your speed to be unaffected by offroad terrains.

If you're getting times like that you're already pretty good, but the gap to the next skill level is huge.

It's because he is PRBing, which is snaking continuously without losing anyspeed which allows you to go thru grass and dirt. Practice on GCN Luigi Circuit. You hold a Mini Turbo off a zipper then snake really fast.
