Wow I just about had a heart attack when I saw his name in the related videos. This guy was my childhood bestfriends' father, I must have spent hundreds of days with him. Incredible nice, humble and funny man. Terrible cook.
I heard Stweart Lee mention this guy (I think it was this guy anyway?) in a video on this site a few days back and I never had any idea it was the priest in Father TQed that got struck by lightning and "looks like a trophy" lol.
I love the way the smart-arsed heckler at the start of the act realises he's just not up to 'topping' the jokes, because he's just a sad studenty twat with a braying voice and that's it - and after two minutes MR can dare to leave long pauses, because the audience don't know where the joke's going, and are concentrating on his words, and thus forget to try to be funnier than him in front of all their mates.
I love this. The jokes are pure ephemera, though of course they are brilliant. The actual comedy and art is in the facial expressions (mainly twitches) set up by the overbearing costume, etc.
know whats weird: stewart lee defended him from paquale's plaigarism. but the formulation of his joke about not really saying the funny thing to the tourist is like a couple of lee's jokes about not really saying the funny thing to the german in the cafe and not really saying the funny thing to the religious guy who knocks on his door. its not verbatim the same but the joke doesn't change significantly i think
Absolutely true, but that subject for a humour (thinking of a funny thing to say after the opportunity has passed) is much older than Redmond, much as I am impressed by him, and is, I would guess, one of those thing where the claim its part of the human condition might actually be true. Not to say Lee wasn't sparked by this, but that's its not a simple borrow/steal like get out of my garden was.
Can't tell whether or not you're joking, but if you're not, what a cool uncle to have. Comedians probably aren't so funny when they're off-stage though; they are just regular guys.
yes, I remember that too - that's stuck in my memory over the years. It was on The Tube I think? All I can recall about it was it was a slide show of owls and one of the funniest things I've ever seen. If anyone has it, please post!
I'm totally sure Pasquale stole the first two jokes about libraries and mars bars too.

@fistpounder He also appeared in Stewart Lee's comedy vehicle.
He seems to be one of the few comedians out there that Stewart Lee actually likes and admires. And that seems to be worthy of a medal.
