I like the illustration about seeing the cars you are interested in. I think the trick is to think of parallel illustrations about the situation you want to get into/out of. For instance when I was single for years until I found a hobby that got me "out there" --before that, no matter how nice a guy I was compensated enough to attract someone to find me sitting on my couch, so to speak.
