what if your blog is in a sub folder? what is the code that goes into the .htaccess file? Also i'm using wordpress I downloaded from the site and hosted through another, using FTP. Any help would be great! Inbox me if you can :)
Was there some slight of hand going on after you had uploaded the 1.htaccess.txt file?
You attempted to rename it to .htaccess while the existing .htaccess file was still there. I couldn't see that working - 2 identically named files at the same location. As if. Then you seemed to delete the file you had just uploaded and just change the permissions on the existing .htaccess. (I'm an Instructional Designer. We keep any eye on those type of things.) But kudos for putting the time in.
@polonayt Here's a bummer: if you are on a Mac and use TextEdit, you can't actually make the type of file you need to make. I'd search for an open-source text editing program (Open Office will likely have one).
Hi, i have my own webserver running apache. I have had it for about a year now, but never really got into it.
I just started making a website for a friend and he wanted me to change it from default. I tried it, and followed tutorials, but i can't change it. I access the files straight through RDC. How do u change the permissions from explore and is there anything else that i need to change for apache?
Wow, why can't everyone explain it as simply as you did. 2hrs looking around and messing with my WP. Found your video.... done in 2mins. Thank you. Well done.

wow this is great tutorial. i got really annoyed when could figure out the .htaccess. i found sites say that you have to download a program, but i don't have a pc and it was really hard to find something for a mac. so i decide to check youtube and found your video, i thought this helped me lot with my site.
Dude, you literally SAVED my future with WordPress - THANKS!...I have read multiple forums that the .htaccess file would 'generate' itself when you make any permalink changes, but boy was I wrong: thanks for solving this for me in plain English ; )
Hey, thanks for the tutorial. Quite annoyed as mine just wont work. it's a blank file uploaded, (followed all ur instructions) and i get a page error and I really cannot work out why. It would be fabulous if I could change them but it's really frustrating me that I may just leave the default settings.... Any ideas why I'm coming across this hurdle?
Glad I could help out. I'm a college prof - so we're always updating these :) It's pretty easy to help out - so if you need something else, let me know (within reason of course)
Thanks...been going NUTS trying to sort this out....following loads of other sites and videos and nothing worked until I watched your video and now my site is up and running again!!

@wiredbeat2000 Thank you for answering. But I solved main problem later with enabling .htaccess status on webserver settings. :)
Thx for being supportive and helpful!
