@satmoore3381 yeah fuck you too, and i love kimbroughs music. i get tired of people talking shit like this on other peoples taste, at least they took the time to check it out
@cjg8634 keep your mouth shut next time man. you're not gonna change my mind about saying what I want to haters. Just listen to the music, click "like" if you want, and keep your opinions about my comment to yourself.
@satmoore3381 "I can say whatever I want, but if someone disagrees with me, then they aren't allowed to voice their opinion."
Are you that shallow that you can't take someone disagreeing with your point of view? Who even gives a shit? Do you know how much harm comes when someone simply dislikes something on the fucking internet? Nothing. Nothing fucking happens. Stop trying to make trouble when there isn't any.
@satmoore3381 Or, like me, they could have clicked on a link from Facebook or something and this isn't their taste in music. They didn't have to look this video up to dislike it. I'm just playing the Devil's Advocate, I do like this song.

Love Kimborough. Hey folks, Ray holly here, 27 year old male here; If you love blues like this, check out my channel.... I'm tring to emulate this style... straight from my mother fuckin' garage! Real music is not dead!
@twothousandpeople Their sound card must not be working. Junior is among the best! I just wish there were more like him! I have been playing guitar for a long time and I think he was amazing! I watched a documentary that said that he never played anyone else's music but his own....all original!
Take ALL the music done in the past 20 years and this has more soul and balls than ALL of it added together!! To sing the blues like this ya gotta live them! Damn this is the shit!!!
His music is like a married woman with a wicked smile and seductive eyes........even when you know she's trouble and it's wrong you can't help making your way across to bar to say hello while her husband is away from her side......we all know the old story Robert Johnson to Muddy Waters to Chuck Berry to Cpaton to Hendrix to blah, blah, blah to Lil' Wayne...the first time I heard Junior I knew that every dark place modern music tries to take us Junior had already been there and done that.
@biglon68 Li'l Wayne is NOT ART... Fuck it. Yeah he is. I t just happens that I don't like it. But my opinion doesn't matter. Yeah you said it right. Blues is a good man feeling bad. Blues is an attempt to find some meager resolution in an unhappy situation. Blues is anger converted to beauty. Blues is a smited lover poisoning an olive oil-voiced bard. Blues is all of that.
And I'll bet my life that Junior fooled around with the wrong guy's wife a few times. In that case, call me a bluesman.
James Watson, a Nobel Prize winner for his part in discovering the structure of DNA said he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours - whereas all the testing says not really.". He said he hoped that everyone was equal, but countered that "people who have to deal with black employees find this not true".
I can't quite put my finger on what's different about Junior and other Bluesmen. Is it that he's electric? Idk what it is but its so suductive and sad, its gorgeous.
Okay, someone please explain...my friend turned me on to The Black Keys and I'm a big fan of them. One day on last.fm while on my xbox, I was listened to TBK radio and Junior was one of the related artists. I've been listening to this music and I love it just as much as I love TBK. You can really see how much this man influenced them. My question is, is "Have Mercy on Me" by TBK a (revised?) cover of this song? They sound a lot alike but not enough to be an exact cover.
I came to this video indirectly by way of one of my favorite bands that covers a few Jr songs. I've seen some comments here where people are wondering if anyone still plays like this, and thought I'd turn you on (if you're not from North Mississippi and already know of them) to North Mississippi Allstars and the Hill Country Review. Luther Dickenson is a guitar master, playing blues with this feel.
@cewinterland Add T-Model Ford , Alvin Youngblood Hart, Jimbo Mathus, Kenny Brown and Richard Johnson to the list from the north Mis'sippi area. Check out Delta Moon for more of the groove from Georgia. Papa Mali, Moreland and Arbuckle are also in the groove. Mis'sippi Fed McDowell for where the the groove originated..
I dunno about the rest of you people, but as I was listening to this song I completely went to a different world. Like I was flying and I could feel the wind hitting my face, I know it sounds weird but as you listen you'll know what I mean.Junior Kimbrough, gotta love the blues man
delta black snake electric crawlin thru the campfire the whiskey bottles thru the 12 gauge shotgun sinuous ravening toxic heartbreaker jr kimbrough brings it man like a dark cloud of nothing but lightning and hurt
damn... just a 10 minute jam session on whats got to be one of the best blues lines ever written... and that doesn't even cover the meaning and soul behind and in the lyrics
*sigh.* two things that you never see in music anymore. I wish I was born 50 years ago so this would be the mainstream instead of today's garbage.
I was lucky enough to see Junior before he passed away. The Fat Possum Mississippi Juke Joint Caravan with R.L. Burnside (another great) and Lil Dave Thompson (one of the up and coming). All three were excellent. Unfortunately all three are now gone (Thompson was killed earlier this year).
nobody laugh, but Marilyn Manson's new song "Four Rusted Horses" reminds me so much of Kimbrough's vibe, it's a pity Jr. didn't do it first! "forbidden in heaven and useless in hell" yeah, that sums up Jr. pretty well, i'd say!
@jteshuwah Thanks for referencing this song! I gave it a listen and I can definitely see the similarity. Does Manson have other songs like "Four Rusted Horses"? I don't know much about his work, but I'm intrigued now.
@strwbrryfldsfrvr0 its weird cos the reason i dfound out about the black keys is because of junior... and i found out there are alot of good bands now a days you need to know where to look ( most bands from sweden are incredible try listening to graveyard thats the best new band i can find.... other than that ill keep listening to the good ol stuff)
@ThePowerslave94 sorry about the last part post, but yeah i'll surely give them a listen :D
I'm open minded to music and the mainstream stuff just sucks, i'll admit sometimes it's decent but i prefer looking for the stuff where the artist put soul in creating their music
As far as The Black Keys go , they made a whole album called Chulahoma from Jr. Kimbrough songs , and Chulahoma is Jr's hometown ; so that shows the type of respect they have for him ; and I think Jr. Kimbrough deserves every bit of credit due to him.
what if the old school blues came back... can you image what else can be remade with todays instruments. DAMN. Thats why I love the keys, they leave the music simple. Seems everyone thinks you have to constantly be making noise to make music.
well, find it in your heart to purchase an album of his; he's probably "dying" for a liver or kidney transplant by now :D or some other operation which is expensive.
its artists like junior that SHOULD be seeded and shared and known to the world, especially the kids. music is dying and money and marketability is the reason.
ah but maybe you're right... lets just keep his stunning and soulful work to ourselves. fuck the future of music.
@sdubbbb What? I'm just saying, if you want to listen to music, go to the store and buy it. It's not that hard. No one is keeping this music to themselves, you can get it if you want it.
Just jumping in here. A lot of music stores now a days don't really carry much. if you want a kimbrough cd you would most likely have to order in and it would cost atleast thrity where i live. Its situations like that where something like itunes would be better. then again... id love to run into some of his stuff at the vinyl sales i go to.
@KMKlym I guess I'm just living under the impression that if you look hard enough, you'll find the CD that you want. Not always true, yeah. 30$ wouldn't be that bad either. And yes, iTunes is good, because you are paying for the music.
I'm just saying, I would feel kinda bad if I was a big fan of someone and then downloaded their music for free. And I guess I could use downloading as a last resort. But it's more satisfying when you look for a CD and then find it.
@bryanswagerty vinyl is an analog medium while a CD is a digital medium. For a vinyl album to have true analog sound it has to be recorded with analog recording equipment. If its recorded using digital recording equipment but made into a vinyl the sound will still be the same as a digital signal.
Thank god for the black keys, or else i would never have heard this genius. I can't believe somebody could channel their soul and their raw emotion like him. I've never heard anything like this before or after. Hendrix, the black keys are the three most amazing blues spin-off artists I've ever heard. Junior is top ten guys I'd choose to meet in history given the chance.
@smazzocity you are a fucking douchebag..nobody wants to hear about how gay your life is..take your pathetic alcoholic ass somewhere else..Junior would roll over in his grave if he saw you post this....
if you guys haven't checked em out yet, look up north mississippi allstars. the singer/guitarist's family was friends with kimbrough and rl burnside. he grew up sitting in with both of them. he also played guitar on the black crowe's war paint album
The Black Keys are probably my favorite band and like many others, chulahoma is how i originally heard this song, and with respect to the Keys and Junior, I think this version is better. The Black Keys version is awesome, but this one is just so dam raw and solid. In my opinion this is exactly what a blues song should sound like. But at the end of the day both of these are artists are true masters of the blues.

brycebarwick 2 years ago 2
its artists like junior that SHOULD be seeded and shared and known to the world, especially the kids. music is dying and money and marketability is the reason.
ah but maybe you're right... lets just keep his stunning and soulful work to ourselves. fuck the future of music.

@sdubbbb Whatever happened to just buying the album? From a store.
People are so goddamn helpless. Not everything comes from the internet. Yet.
Rehtomflow 2 years ago
the internet happened. give me a break man, you're listening to junior on youtube...
people are so goddamn helpless...
sdubbbb 2 years ago
@sdubbbb What? I'm just saying, if you want to listen to music, go to the store and buy it. It's not that hard. No one is keeping this music to themselves, you can get it if you want it.
Rehtomflow 2 years ago
Just jumping in here. A lot of music stores now a days don't really carry much. if you want a kimbrough cd you would most likely have to order in and it would cost atleast thrity where i live. Its situations like that where something like itunes would be better. then again... id love to run into some of his stuff at the vinyl sales i go to.
KMKlym 2 years ago
@KMKlym I guess I'm just living under the impression that if you look hard enough, you'll find the CD that you want. Not always true, yeah. 30$ wouldn't be that bad either. And yes, iTunes is good, because you are paying for the music.
I'm just saying, I would feel kinda bad if I was a big fan of someone and then downloaded their music for free. And I guess I could use downloading as a last resort. But it's more satisfying when you look for a CD and then find it.

@bigjrritchie vinyl is printed on a regular basis in today. In fact, many releases in the 90's came out on record weeks before the CD.

@bryanswagerty vinyl is an analog medium while a CD is a digital medium. For a vinyl album to have true analog sound it has to be recorded with analog recording equipment. If its recorded using digital recording equipment but made into a vinyl the sound will still be the same as a digital signal.

@bigjrritchie I actually have some Junior vinyl.

@brycebarwick i am not necessarily saying that i support pirating, but what exactly is the difference between that and uploading it on youtube...?
there are also different programs you can use to download music from youtube and so on...

@brycebarwick
i think junior would be spinning in his grave.
he was a delta bluesman, the epitomy of poor, working class, southern black guys.
i personally think he'd prefer it shared for free than bought for

Thank god for the black keys, or else i would never have heard this genius. I can't believe somebody could channel their soul and their raw emotion like him. I've never heard anything like this before or after. Hendrix, the black keys are the three most amazing blues spin-off artists I've ever heard. Junior is top ten guys I'd choose to meet in history given the chance.

Yeah I heard them on my pandora black keys station who I got into from my black angels station, funny little progression.

Check out R.L. Burnside and T-Model Ford. All Mississipi Delta Blues players, and i think they were all on the same label.

Does anyone know of any other blues artists like Junior with drums and all? Thanks
Houdini116 2 years ago
if you guys haven't checked em out yet, look up north mississippi allstars. the singer/guitarist's family was friends with kimbrough and rl burnside. he grew up sitting in with both of them. he also played guitar on the black crowe's war paint album
