  • who is the music by

  • your triple looks beautiful, but i wish you brought your chest up more.

    otherwise it was amazing.

  • beautiful! inspiring! incredible! thank you for sharing your art <3

  • Your's is thee most beautiful aerial silk vid on utube. I watched 'The Gymnast' movie and became enthralled. Then came an email from a model I am about to photograph who very coincidentally mentioned her ability with aerial silk & that I might want to shoot her using it. I'm now in photographic heaven. :) Even if only 10' up and nothing like yours here.

It's the most beautiful physical art form I've ever seen and you're display of it is absolutely sublime.

Thank you for putting it up.

  • Very beautiful! it is an inspiration for me (: I'm learning and I really like tricks that require a lot of flexibility.

  • You are amazing wanna see more from you

  • magic

  • Beautiful!

  • Such grace and fluidity in all your moves! One might think you're not having to use any strength to accomplish your routine, amazing work!! Happy Holidays!!

  • The first trick she does is a hip-key salto.

  • I could watch this video everyday. it's so,beautiful, the way she moves.

  • I like the way you get the fabric crossed behind your back in 2:10, I'm going to have to try that technique:)

  • That was totally amazing! So beautiful!

  • beautiful form!

  • you are amazing, i've been doing this for a year and i can only do half the stuff you can do (i am 13) :)

  • You are so good at this! I have been doing this for over a year and i am not nearly as good.... but i am only 13

  • Absolutely breathtaking fantastic job!!!!!!!

  • I am preforming at arial silk at the eaglerock music festival. I'm so nervous. Last year they had to stop letting people in the studio because the place was literally jam packed. People were even jammed agenst the windows.

  • wow you make it look so easy and beautiful. we are thinking of incorporating aerial silks in our shows... however no one is experienced in this art so is there is any advice to guide us in the right direction? foremost we want our performers to be safe... how can i learn about the rigging system and what is required to maintain safety?

  • @lunatangosc If you want to start putting aerial silks in your shows, you need to hire professional artists, or an instructor to come and give your own performers a workshop on a safe, basic vocabulary they can then develop into their own material. A professional acrobatic rigger is absolutely necessary to make sure that your equipment is being hung safely and can be maintained! They can explain what you can and can't take responsibility for once it's set up.

  • amazing

  • so gorgeous

  • Wow this is incredible. I love the mix of sheer beauty and impressive strength, all tinged with an element of danger. It's beautiful.

  • hi i saw this video a thousand times and i just can't figure out how yo do the first trick. because i don't know how your right leg gets tied in that trick so could you expline to me how you do it or make another video in which i can see it because i really want to do it but i cant figure out how yo do it. thanks its beautiful what you have done

  • @TheFatcow65 Thank you for the compliments, but no, I can't explain tricks via comments/make another video. It's important for you to realize that his video isn't a learning lesson! It's an example of my professional work for potential employers. I always hope it inspires others to explore/create their *own* unique vocabulary in aerial silks, rather than just to copy mine. That's not safe or respectful of my work as an artist. I hope you understand. Best of luck with your learning!

  • @AnanasEple THANKS!

  • This is so beautiful. I think its the most beautiful form of "dancing" I've ever seen! I really want to learn! Is there anyway to learn without going to school for it?

  • @Mollerz95 There are lots of studios these days where you can take recreational classes, you don't need to go to a school for professionals these days to get a taste of aerial acrobatics!

But it's definitely essential to learn with a qualified instructor who has the proper equipment, mats and training to be teaching. The risk factor is way too high to do it any other way!

  • wow how long did it take you to be this good? you're amazing so much skill

  • i keep rewatching this video and the shape you make at 3:20 is SO stunning.

  • amazing this is always something i wanted to do never really had the chance to though....

  • beautiful work - where did you study/ how long have you been doing circus?

I just started silks as well about a year ago- I fell in love.

  • @quidditchwitch13 Hi there! Thanks for the compliment! I've been performing professionally since 2006, and my education was a 3-year, full-time circus arts studies program at the National Circus School in Montreal.

  • Wow. I had never seen aerial silks before, that was beautiful. It also looks way fun. I'm glad that your video was the first I watched. Are there many men that do this? Is the material just long cuts of silk?

  • @mattbrowny Hi Matt, there are some men that perform silks professionally, and many more that do it recreationally for fun. The fabric is not literally silk, but one of two specific fabric types used for aerial performance work, and usually the "two" pieces are actually one continuous length hung from the middle!

  • wow, this is really incredible! thanks for posting!

  • Wow, this is awesome! I've never seen anything like it before. Would love to get into something to achieve that kind of body. Thanks for sharing!

  • My apologies if this was already answered, how tall are your silks?

  • @Seseilia That's an excellent question. I don't actually know, I was using a friend's fabric for this shoot. My guess would be about 24-25 feet? I'm terrible with estimating heights though, probably a pretty dreadful admission for someone in my line of work =)

  • @thecircusgirl Haha! No problem, thank you. Either way, these are beautiful moves, some of which a couple of my friends and I were trying to emmulate a while back just by watching the video. (Don't worry, we had an instructor and a crash mat present.)

  • this is so beautiful. wish i could have seen it live. are you part of a performing group or just performing solo?

  • @senorbosqueverde

I work with several performance groups in different areas of North America: I'm a guest artist with the Underground Circus in Vancouver, BC, Pendulum Aerial Arts in Portland, OR, The Cabiri in Seattle, WA and Wonderbolt Circus in Newfoundland and Labrador.

I am looking into the possibility of signing a longer-term contract with other companies, though. You can always check out my webpage for more updates!

  • AMAZING ~~~~~~

  • This is my absolute favorite silk routine of any that I've seen. Beautiful. Gorgeous. The skills, the beauty, the music- it all goes together so well. I love it. I hope to be as great as you someday.

  • the post on @2:53 is so sexy

  • This is so beautiful. I have some much respect for these type of dancers. The strength and the elegance is so amazing. I wish I could do this.

  • @Louuseefly You're never too old. I started circus a semester ago, a month before I turned 25, and I wasn't even in shape. Big fun, but you should make sure that you also do work outs, exercise, stretching and whatnot. Aerial acrobatics require strenght and flexibility;).

  • I Love this video!

  • tht would scare da shit out of me

  • I am in love with this video. The music, setting, costume, technique...it's all AMAZING! Very inspiring. I'm 24 and started learning the art last year. I think I'm doing pretty well. I'd love to know how long it took you, circusgirl, to get this good at it.

  • Man! I can't wait until I'm 16 and able to take an Aerial Silks Intro Class! I'm 14 and have been doing ballet for nearly 11 years, so hopefully I'll do okay!

  • i love your lines your physicality inspires me to train more and the music lovely. this is how aerials should be showcased

  • Disregarding, how it's probably a lot easier to dance in just your underwear, when we circus students at my school practice tissue, we typically wear clothes:p.

  • @MidgardEagle Do you typically practice tissue directly about a glass blowing studio with 4 ovens that produce thousands of degrees of heat? I wouldn't even wear that, she's hard core!

  • genial, me encanta su linea

  • wow, such grace and strength in the body. I absolutely enjoyed watching this

  • I wish I could run off and join the circus. T^T

  • this is the most beautiful thing i have seen in a long time.

  • The opening is especially gorgeous in its simplicity & feeling. BTW can i ask about the tights you are wearing? I am still on the hunt for the kind that will not hurt/snag on the fabric.

  • @shimarella I'm just wearing a standard dance body liner - it's like a unitard, so I have some protection on my torso as well. You can get them at just about any dance store. Any sort of tights made specifically for dancers are usually thicker and far more resistant to snags/runs.

  • @Louuseefly I didn't start concentrating on circus until I was 22 and became a full-time performing professional - don't sell yourself short! You can always learn something new and even if your goal is just to do it for fun, that's an excellent reason!

  • @Louuseefly pff no your not, i took this up a few months ago and i only turn 20 recently, also i had no dance background so if i can do it you can deff do it, its really something worth taking up, i love it and you get such a work out from it.

  • do you know of any classes in the twin cities minnesota area? i know circus juventis is in my area, do you know of any others?

  • @blackxbamboo I'm currently taking an intro aerial class at Xelias Aerial Arts in northeast Minneapolis. I love it!! You don't have to be in great shape or be young.. and the learning curve is pretty sharp.

  • This is so good! The only thing I would've done is pulled a quad star at the end instead of a triple, because you had the height. otherwise, amazing job, I'll check out some more of your videos.

  • Should guys learn Aerial Tissue too?

  • @adriandell There's no reason why not! You may have different challenges than girls do - usually men have better upper body strength but less flexibility - but everyone's body is different! You won't know if you like it until you try it!

  • I absolutely love you. Thank you for inspiring me (with beautiful music from an AMAZING movie) to continue exploring the world of dance the rest of my life :)

I stopped acrobatics for awhile because of a back injury and I MISS IT SO MUCH

    ...time to start back up!

  • Your form is so beautiful! I am 14 years old and ive been training on silks for a few years now and this is my biggest inspiration! THANKS SO MUCH :)

  • wow

  • wow circusgirl ..i would call the theme amazingly beautiful single bride to be ! perfect im breathlessss..how long did it take to get to this technique ..magnefique thank you ..miss hoopchica

  • this is the most graceful woman I have seen doing aerial silks! Wow, thanks for sharing!

  • Amazing!!!

I have recently taken an interest in this. And I really want to take it up. How long did it take you to get good?

  • @MrAmandaVeronica I've been a professional performer for 4 years now, and trained full-time for three years at the National Circus School of Montreal in aerial work. Before that, I began artistic gymnastics at age 10 and continued at a competitive level through my college years.

Aerial work can be a lot of fun at a recreational level and it's great for building strength and confidence. Look for a place that teaches classes locally to you and see if you enjoy it!

  • Soooooo beautiful

  • this is one of the most beautiful fabric routines I've ever seen! Congrats on such an amazing and moving routine/performance.

  • so lovely

  • God! Your bascule climbs are INCREDIBLE!

  • I've been practicing/training in silks for over four years now. and i'd just like to tell you this is TRULY a big inspiration to me. you are extremely poised and graceful and i really feel the emotion in the routine combined with the music. it's breathtaking. thank you for inspiring me!

  • Thats AMAZING! I'm 14 and I would really like to learn this. I dance about three times a week but but I've always been intrigued with gymnatics, however, I still love the artform of dance. This looks like a perfect combo! I also am living in seattle, so I was wondering if you know of any studios/gyms that you can reccommend me?

  • @panicpanicpanicatthe For sure!

I've worked a little with The Cabiri, a performing arts company that does interpretive mythology using a lot of aerial performance. They teach regular intro aerial arts classes and Charly is a great teacher, they're very friendly people.

SANCA - the School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts - also has aerial classes taught regularly, and a few of my friends teach there on a regular basis when they're in town.

  • @panicpanicpanicatthe The Cabiri teach classes in the Seattle area and I believe they teach teenagers up through adults, they would be my first recommendation. If you're too young for them, look up SANCA, the Seattle School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts.

  • @panicpanicpanicatthe I've been taking aerials in the Seattle area for the last 2 years or so. I've never taken from Cabari, but I have taken from SANCA and they are quite good but you don't always get a lot of air time. There is another studio called Versatile Arts that I take from twice a week. Their instructor is quite good and they have great rates. They've got a website and are located in the Greenwood area. She's hoping to expand to Cap. Hill soon.

  • i love this! im 14 nd i rlly wana try this out do u kno of any classes tht r in NC??

ur awesome at this by the way :]

  • @BabygirlNiqe My friend Mama Lou teaches classes in Fayetteville. Look up "Mama Lou American Strong Woman" and she'll be the first link you see on Google.

  • im 17 and i REALLY wanna learn how to do this. i know im not too old, but im low on money and i dont think i can afford to take classes. What do you reccomend for at home self training without proper equiptment?

  • @brightstars369 I don't - EVER - recommend "self-training". Check with local instructors about doing work-trade or scholarship opportunities, but don't attempt any aerial work on your own. Aerial isn't like dance, where your legs are already trained to support your weight. It takes time and training to be able to do *anything* safely. Watching Youtube videos can never replace qualified instruction and proper equipment and rigging is absolutely essential to your safety. Look after yourself!

  • @thecircusgirl no no i wouldnt ever try anything like this unless i were with an instructor! i meant like stretches and work outs that i can do to make it easier for me when i actaully am able to take real classes

  • @brightstars369 Oh, thank goodness! In that case, push-ups and Pilates/dance type core exercises are great, including lots of back extensions and oblique work as well as abs. If you can find a bar to hang off of, try pull-ups and shoulder-shrugs (engaging your shoulder girdle to pull your shoulders down away from your ears). For stretching, a good pike, straddle (center split), splits and overall back-shoulder flexibility are the keys. You can Google exercises for those.

  • @thecircusgirl thank you :)

  • true artist. How long have you been doing silks for? I'm 20 and a former ballet dancer, thought I'd give silks a try for fun..is it too late for me?

  • @2dept I currently have 7 years' experience as an aerialist - 4 years performing, 3 years of full-time professional-level training at the National Circus School before that. Before that, I was an artistic gymnast for 12 years.

I started my professional circus training when I was 22, however, so it's never too late to pick up a new interest! Definitely give it a try, it's great fun even on a recreational level and who knows where it might take you!

  • I love this dance! You are very beautiful and fluid! I'm just about to start training with aerial silks and I'm so excited. thank you for sharing this with us.

  • how long have you worked at aerial silks? you are amazing at your craft! I've always wanted to try this. your grace and beauty is very inspirational

  • @o0cassandra0o Thank you!!!

I've been performing professionally for 4 years now, trained full-time in circus arts for 3 years prior to that, and had 12 years' experience as an artistic gymnast as my background.

  • Wow you are realy good! makes me feel realy amature hahaha

Could you please tell me of what fabric your tissu is made?

I want some strechy onse like yours but I can't find them...

    xx

  • @kyralala The fabric I use is super-stretchy, but it's only available in a few places, and it actually takes a lot more upper body strength to climb it. If you're just training recreationally, I'd recommend that you to stick to the material that most people work on, called "tricot" - it has a smaller amount of stretch and is more comfortable for people who don't do this full-time.

  • @thecircusgirl Thanks a lot for your reaction! Yes I only do recreational and I do notice my upper body strenght is increasing so I better stick to tricot then haha

  • excellent.

  • spectacular and gorgeous. Five star silks time in the museum of glass!!! xoStephy :P

  • amazing absolutly amazing :)

  • that was incredibly beautiful, and I absolutely love the color of your fabric

  • this is my favorite performance (and i've seen cirque du soleil!) Mille fois bravo!

  • wow, really amaizing routine, theres something in your style that makes it very fine... funnily Im just converting my abandonned bride pole act into tissue :P (hehe no worries, Im way from your height and the act is very diferent)

  • You're incredible. I just started learning the silks this month, and I've been watching nearly every aerial silk video on youtube. You are by far the most fluid and graceful person I've seen. I'm am so inspired by watching you!

  • So exquisitely beautiful! That was breathtaking!

  • beautiful act!! i love it!! have not seen many silks act like this!! congrats!!!! nice work!

  • You are truly one of the most graceful and polished aerialist I've ever seen. You are a true artist. I hope to achieve half of your grace in my routines.

  • that was absolutely beautiful! It was amazingly captivating, and you look extremely polished in everything you do. Amazing =)

  • Very graceful. Gorgeous form!

  • like a human butterfly just so pleasant to watch and enjoy l felt so relaxed after watching this performance bravo :)

  • you. are. amazing. You need to come to Norway and teach me!

  • @Wendy9020 If you train at a studio, have them contact me! I'd love to take a trip to Norway!!! =)

  • this is performed to this music, right? or no?

  • No, actually!

The piece was performed with this music *in mind* but because I didn't have the track with me at the time of filming, I simply had to perform the sequence I had created in silence, and hope that when the music track was added back in later, it would synch up.

Luckily, in the end, it wasn't too far off!

  • @thecircusgirl you're amazing. im so in love with you.

  • beautiful and mesmerizing. And I love the "lack of" costume-- at least you can pull it off!!

  • Thanks!

  • unbelievably beautiful video in every aspect. I loved the music (waking life is a great movie), your skills are amazing technical and graceful, I also loved the fact that the auditorium was empty, and lst but not least the costume or lack of one completely added a sensual and sexual quality that went well with the music and moves. you have a gorgeous body. All of these factors combined to create one hell of a mesmorising video. great job

  • Beautiful routine and great skill! Your choreography and transitions are fantastic. Personally, I'm not sure if I care for the beginning part on the ground....and the "costume" or lack of costume distracted me from the routine. A unitard would have been nice.

  • This was an early version of a piece themed around a bride abandoned at the altar; she takes off her dress to perform the act, thus the "lack of costume." I wore it for this video mainly to see how it would look/work in the air.

I agree with you that for most circumstances it's not the costume I'd want, as it's quite particular to that act concept and doesn't make sense out of context.

Thanks for the feedback, it's always very valuable!

  • all i have to say is wow.

  • tanya you are so good!, but what people don't know is that great rocket scientist Nasa Girl that beggin on aerealism with a hoop-trapece.

where is that act, do you still have that instrument? do you remeeber it? you were awesome, but this is so different it si elegant!

  • Very nice. Far better and more beautiful than others I've seen. I do the silks and hope one day to be as good and graceful as you.

  • this is...beautiful.

    simply amazing.

  • that was mesmerising! I use pole and there are so many moves that are the same but silks is by far more elegant and graceful. I take my hat off to all those that can use aerial silk as beautifully as this and maybe one day ill get to have a go myself... :o)

  • im sooo using that climp in my next routine good work on thoose transitions

  • precioso!!

    \Genialne...dziękuję WaLdiEmu;))

  • hermosa bellisima guapa cant stop of see that

  • very cool location

  • great work Tanya, strong lines, inventive transitions, consistent movement quality, nice one. Good luck.

    Aaron.

  • Beautiful ....

  • Really beautiful work Tanya!

  • It's "Ballade 3" from the soundtrack to the movie Waking Life.

  • beautiful video!

What is the name of the song?
