  • @Kittylol9 Lmao

  • Damn Jonathon is amazing! I cried soo hard... give the man a Tony or something. Wow!

  • i think i like the original purple summer song better...

  • Thank you for sharing this, it was beautiful, sad and wonderful. What a great cast.

  • When Melcoir first sees Wendla's grave I remember the scene in WSS when Maria holds Tony as he dies....

  • Forever wondering how Wendla's mother explained her period to her :/

  • It's sooooooo good but so depressing.. :(

  • Why did they add a new beginning to "Song of Purple Summer"??? Cause it's not on the album.

  • Jonathan Groff gives me shivers... everytime. He needs to do something soon with Lea other than Glee because they are perfect.

  • Is it raining? and this is the most amazing play....

  • The scene of Jonathan Groff (Melchoir) sobbing was the best of all the play. I can't help crying everytime I see it.

  • Those parents made awful discussions. Because of them, they lost their child and soon to be grandchild too..

  • wow this is the first time that i have ever seen this play and it was awsome

  • Every time I hear him sobbing I cry so hard one question why is the song of purple summer so different than the one on the CD

  • @4everRentlover the writers decided to make an artisict change to the song.. adding an intro

  • i pretty much knew that lea's character would die from the abortion so i prepared myself...it didn't work. now im here sobbing and i can't stop. good thing i never saw this live or i would have been a mess for days :'( </3

  • purple summer<3

  • this musical is beautiful! When I had first read about it, I thought it was inappropriate. but then I finally watched it, and I totally get it. it touches on so many different things that teens go through. and Lea and Jonathan are amazing!

  • This is (one of) the reasons I'm against abortion... :'(

  • @narniafreak92 shouldn't this be why you're for safe and accessible abortions? Wendla died because she was given a back alley abortion. There hasn't been a death from an abortion in over a decade. If abortion is criminalized, these types of back alley abortions will happen all the time, and sadly, many young women will die. Keep it legal, and give people access to safe abortions or they'll seek out horrific alternatives.

  • @narniafreak92 not a great reason... considering this was meant to be 15th century germany and abortions have come a long way since then.

  • Moral of the story: Don't have sex. Or you will get pregnant. And DIE!

  • @Kittylol9 exxxactly

  • @Kittylol9 No the moral of the story it that PARENTS need to tell their children "Don't have sex or you will get pregnant. and die!"

  • @Platinum400 this just made me burst out laughing.

  • @Kittylol9 omg! Mean girls!

  • God... Finally stop crying like a baby! Now this musical, it's just ... the best I've ever seen!! Thanks a lot for uploading it, I would so love to have this on DVD!!!

  • Me: "Don't cry...don't cry...don't cry...fuck."

  • Omg i loved this so much!!!!! im crying.

  • And now I'm weeping.

  • Oh my god!!! I'm sobbing right now!!!! This musical is absolutely amazing and the OBC is just breathtaking. I spent my entire day watching all of this and I have to say, my day doesn't feel wasted at all. I absolutely love everyone in this cast and this musical makes me cry everytime I listen to the music. It's just amazing. And, I love Jon and Lea on Glee, just saying. I'm glad I get to see her sing another amazing song every Tuesday night (:

  • :'( x 1000000 i love this musical and OMG why!? why!? WHY!?

  • brings me to tears every time.....

  • Jonathan Groff needs a flippin' Tony. He needs to quit schleppin on GLEE and get back into stuff like THIS! I seriously almost cried along with Melchoir. lol This was amazing.

  • i so need this on dvd it was amzing thanks for putting it on i loved it :)

  • Thanks for uploading... :)

I cried when he read out that she died of anemia... I also yelled that she didn't die of anemia but because her mother got an abortion... My parents have never given me a weirder look in my whole life.. :S

Best. Musical. I have. Ever. Seen.

    Thanks again for uploading! :)

  • hearing him like that makes me cry

  • Thank you So much for uploading this! I balled my eyes out but it was so worth it!! <3

  • In floods of tears :'( Thanks so much for posting this! Its an amazing show!

  • I cried :p lol I actually think it may have been better if he had also died, just a thought tho.

  • Ugh, this just destroys me.

  • this is so beautiful

  • god damn it.

i'm crying more than a baby. i'm crying like my best friend died or something. well, bawling. like a crazy person,

  • i cried. a lot. :(

  • This show is amazing!! I was just cast as wendla and I'm so excited for it!! It's a beautiful show with great music!!!! =D

  • I Balled.... my eyes out....

  • I really miss SA!!!! Broadway is starting to run out of ideas, I mean Spiderman the musical!!! Are you fucing kidding me!!! BRING BACK SA!!!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this!! I would never been able to see it with the original if it wasn't for you! I was crying at the end and I think the original cast needs to make this a movie!! For everyone who loves it!! I was so touches!!

  • Love this show!! I'm auditioning for this show this week and I'm so excited!!!

  • wow only a few from the OBC but still good.

  • wow! I can't wait to see this play at the water tower theatre in Addison! It really tugged at my emotions! BIG thumbs wayyy up!

  • 3:20 Thumbs up if you noticed, Moritz almost trips climbing out of his grave!

  • Unbelievably beautiful.... tears.

  • The people who were behind me when I saw this live moved after whispering because my friends and I were sobbing too loud.

  • *sob* *sob *sob*

  • increíble que diga esto, pero me gustó más la versión argentina de esta parte...

  • @danielalaks que hisieron diferente?

  • @WendIaBergman fue más sentida y se abrazaron más fuerte, parecía que se querían más

  • I've never been so touched by a musical and this one is filmed with a digital camera. If the original cast ever came back to do it on Broadway, I wouldn't care if I had to swim across the Atlantic. I'd be there, period. And I'd probably cry throughout the entire show. So beautiful.

  • watch this without crying. I DARE you. and if you do.. your heartless.

  • @LightKnight14 I didn't cry...but I did collapse when I tried to walk away from my computer.

  • @LightKnight14

I didn't cry, because... Well, my computers in the living room.. But I had hidden tears in my eyes..

  • This was beautiful. I was literally sobbing by the end

  • No joke- when Jonathan Groff started sobbing it made me nauseous...where is this man's Tony Award?!?

  • Melchoir never change his clothes!

  • Thank you very much for posting the entire musical! I am in Italy so I would have never seen it.

  • that was so so good! thanks for uploading

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! Duncan Shiek (sp?) really started something special here.

  • @kicoriahproductions She did kill her...

  • Loved it, thanks for the upload :).

  • Johnathan Groff has left me speechless. He is amazing

  • @ravens4ever252 an abortion is when a pregnancy is terminated because wendla was pregnant her crappy bitch of a mom made her get it terminated and it killed her.

  • thank u for uploading this it is one of the greatest musicals ever! this is a speechless experience to watch!!!

  • God this is soooo sad, they make me want to cry every time

  • how did wendla even die?

  • @ravens4ever252 she died from the forced abortion. In those days Abortion was not... for lack of a better word 'perfected' >:[

  • i am only 12 and i really dont under stand any thing you said. i am sorry for asking you but could you explain it without the big words and please dont make it so complicated . i am so sorry for asking though

  • @ravens4ever252 Wendla was pregnant and her mom wanted her to not be pregnant so they went to a bad doctor who was supposed to stop the pregnancy but with stuff like that there's a lot of bleeding and she possibly bled to death.

  • i cried after it said that Wendla had died :'( its so sad and her stupid mother practically killed her daughter so she wouldn't have the baby >:'( i would rather die giving birth than having an abortion >:'(

  • just think if wendla mother didnt force her to have an abortion they would have been a happy family.

  • @Katiegirl773 If Wendla's mother had been honest when Wendla asked her how a woman gets pregnant, they could've been a happy couple without any of this.

  • D: :c

  • UGH, this scene makes me want to cry. So much emotion.

  • :'(

  • Moritz dies because he shoots himself.

  • @moonnugget The OBC recording was done when the show was getting ready to transition to Broadway from off-Broadway, and it included earlier, non-final versions of several songs, most notably "Touch Me" and "Purple Summer."

  • Do you know what ruins this for me? The fact that I can just here the boys in my class laughing at this. Calling his stupid, and making fun of it. They did it in Romeo and Juliet and they act that way in class. Just imagining them laughing at this makes me want to slap them. For years, I've wanted to yell at my classmates SHUT UP!!!!!!!

Idiots. They just can't appreciate something like this, they think they're gods gift.

  • @agenttheater5 Oh my god same here! Guys in my class are completely idiotic but think they're all high and mighty! They don't even know what a showtune is! I could totally see them laughing at this and it ma

  • @GleekyFanGirl Sorry I was cut off. It makes me want to punch them! lol It feels good to vent my school frustrations.

  • Perhaps I'm terribly wrong, but is there suppose to be a masked man who appears to give Melchior a hope for redemption in the end?

  • @genelin1995 YES! but they adapted for the play, but yes, that is what really happend in the book play

  • don't suppose anyone could give me a run down on what happens in each scene? i've watched it through but i think i've only got the gist of it :S

  • @JennyTangoJBJPHS Melchior comes back for Wendla, to take her away and start a new life with their child, but it turns out she died during the abortion procedure (on the tombstone they claimed it was anemia). Melchior is heartbroken, and begins to feel their presence. When he considers suicide to end his life, they stop him and he explains how he still feels them with him and promises he will never let their memory go.

  • @carriewhite410 ah thank you so much! :D

sorry but could you also explain how the guy with curley hair died? :S

  • @JennyTangoJBJPHS I'm guessing you're talking about the guy to the left of Melchoir? That was his best friend who committed suicide after he failed school and wasn't able to flee to America. Hence why Melchior says "Well, you had the right idea" before he attempts to commit suicide by slitting his throat.

  • @carriewhite410 thank you! :D

  • in the end i was like awwwwwwwww...back here i we don hav like an ultimate broadway thin or that

many musical productions. This is actually my first broadway show nd it was pretty awesome !!!!

  • I love this show so much. Lea, jonathan, and the whole cast are amazing. Thank you sooo much for posting this! I just wish I had gotten to see it on Broadway.

  • Do you know why there is a significant difference in the lyrics of "The Song of Purple Summer" in this compared to the soundtrack?

  • stomach churning when he screams "No". so powerful, love it. ugh such a great show and they did such a good job.

  • I've been searching endlessly for a good quality version of this musical. And I finally found it. Thank you so much for uploading this. It's great that those lacking the funds or resources to see a broadway show can still be exposed to musical theater

  • beautiful :]

  • I absolutely LOVE this show. So powerful and honest. Absolutely amazing cast too. Thank you so much for posting :)

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH for your videos, I'm from Argentina and I don't have the chance to see it on brodway :)

  • Wow... I love this. Can watch it every month and still be affected. Thanks.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! I never would've been able to see it with the original cast otherwise. I saw the national tour when I was 15, but the Broadway version ran from when I was 12 to 14. My parents would've died before they let me see it.

  • I loved this, thanks for uploading it!! but I'm just curious, why do they all use handheld mics to sing?

  • @littledancinlady You're welcome, anw they use hand held mics beacuse the songs are inner monologues and because they wanted a "concert" effect.

  • @WendIaBergman Oh okay cool! thanks :D

  • thank you, thank you , thank you, you make my day so happy!!!

  • @leytonfromBA Aw this makes me happy, you are very welcome :D

  • The girl he loves and his best friend died :( that is too much of a heartache.

  • Chills every time I can't help but tear up Jon is just so emotional <3

  • Do you have to curtain call as well?

  • @ThruAcceptingRules Nope, sorry. :(

  • Oh gosh, thank u so much for upload the show...!

... i'm from Venezuela, so, i never had the opportunity to see it live... THANK U! <3

  • its soooo sad :*( at first i didnt think she died & i had 2 go back & check cuz i ddnt believe it

  • i love this so much, but WHYYYYYYYYY are there people seated on the stage?!

  • @Em1qaz That's just part of the show they wanted it to feel intimate almost like you're looking in.

  • I cry every time I see this, they should get married in real life :)

  • @DiaryOfALonelyGirl1 Lol I wish, maybe if Jon wasn't gay ;)

  • @WendIaBergman Me too, but you have to admit that he really does love her in real life, but shes probly going to be the only girl he will ever love like that (its hard to explain).

  • @DiaryOfALonelyGirl1 Oh there's no denying that those two love each other for sure just not in that kinda way lol, or so they say ;)

  • Omg, total le miz ending...am I right?

  • @homeworkhelpaccount Right?!?

  • and THAT is why sex ed is now mandatory in schools :)

  • @linah95XOXO They don't have sex ed at a lot of schools. They didn't at mine. Education filled with threats of STDs and nothing but abstinence is not sex ed.

  • @PorcelainLies well where i live it's a mandatory part of the curriculem. and I'm not saying that it should be about threats of pregnancies and STI's at all. Wendla didn't even know HOW babies were made, and didn't even know what sex was, which made her vulnerable and cost her her life.

  • @linah95XOXO Where do you live because I agree with you, it's just that where I grew up, TRUE sex education is actually not taught. =\ Teachers can and will lose their jobs if they teach about anything other than abstinence... Even mentioning any form of birth control is grounds for termination.

  • @PorcelainLies I live in canada, although in the catholic school board here they only teach abstinence, thats not what it's like at all for public schools. but at least with that kind of poor sex ed, you would know what sex is and that it does, in fact, often lead to childeren.

  • @linah95XOXO Ah. see, I live in the States. That's how it is in public schools here. I do see what you're saying. I just hate how the school systems are here. =\ So much.

  • @PorcelainLies This boggles my mind! Sex ed for me started in Primary School! I had it every year since I was 11, Drug ed too (although that didn't start till Hight School). The best part of sex ed at high school was always the condom blowing-up competition. lol. They taught us EVERYTHING to do with sex, STI's and contraceptives. It's part of the core-curriculum for all schools, Public or Independent.

  • @PorcelainLies Sorry to butt into your conversation but I wanted to say that I never had sex ed either, we had "Health" and they only taught abstinence. They didn't even tell us how you do it in fear that we would but mostly everyone was doing it anw, thankkfully I have a very open minded mom and I knew all about it since I was 11.

  • wait..the priest killed her?

  • @TheSeraph00 No, her mom took her to get an abortion and she died.

  • They pronounce wendla with a v coz it is set in Germany and in Germany they pronounce w as v and that is just about all I learnt from my 2 years of German at school lol:D

  • @chloeemmerson You know, I always think it's in Austria... and then I look it up, or read a comment like yours and I'm like... "Damn it... every time... XD"

  • thank you so much for uploading this! :)

  • had to watch this scene about 6 times cuz i couldnt see cuz of the tears streaming down my face :(

  • Comment removed

  • this play is so heartbreaking, but the end is gorgeous and uplifting. ahhhh i love it. so goooood. i hope i get a chance to see the cast touring right now.

  • Aww! I wanted the bows :(

  • Wendla's mother is a bitch.

  • can somebody please explain the hwole thing to me? like summarize it i guess?

  • @Allypuppyluver Wendla's mom told her that in order to conceive a child you had to love someone with all your heart. so she made love to melochoir because she didn't know that she could get pregnant, which she did. her mom forced her to get an abortion and she died. leaving melachoir considering suicide but he decided to carry on their memories.

  • Thank you SO much for posting all of this. I'm afraid I became a fan of Lea and Jonathan during Glee and when i found out about this musical, I felt as if I could never see it without them on stage because it would never be as perfect as the soundtrack. Thank you so much for allowing me to witness them in the parts as they should be played. :') Tears streaming down my face.

  • @EGlVM hah thats cool, strange i found glee because of this. haha i knew about glee but i never really cared about it untill i found this play

  • Wendla pronounced with a V sound?

Anyways, this is beautiful. I just... Ugh. It's so sad. But this is the only ending it can really have.

  • @dorotheablack You're welcome :)

  • This scene always makes me cry. EVERYTIME! :( Well, thanks@WendlaBergman for the greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat upload! ;)

  • why did Morizt kill himself ?

  • @TheStar0909 when he fails his exams, his father is basically ashamed of him. In addition he hits puberty and he's confused as hell. he keeps having dreams about sex and he's so afraid of those dreams that he's afraid to fall asleep which in turn results in his failing his tests. So while being confused about sexuality, failing his tests and having his father ashamed of him, he feels as if he has no escape and he pulls the trigger. His last monologue before his suicide is beautiful

  • @peaceloveandmusic95

    Thank u so much :) :x

  • Lea has such a distinctive voice. You can always hear her above everybody else.

  • @galleryofbrokenparts Hahaha, I said pretty much the same thing a while back - as a comment to one of these videos :D

  • I was just crying when I found out that Wendla died too. This one's so sad. The most amazing musical ever seen. Thanks for adding this one here <3

  • The Emotion they put into "those You've know" Makes me cry every time! I would love to be able to see these actors put it on live. Jonathan Groff is such an amazing Actor!

  • thank you!

  • i just finished this and i'm about to cry seriously i am blown away so great i too did not get a chance to see this on Broadway so i have to say thank you as well :)

  • Did you guys know they're gunna make a film adaption with the director being the guy who made charlies angles and the terminator salvation? Umm...i dont wanna be pestimistic but...*sigh*

  • I just had to read the comments before i saw this...totally ruined it for me...i have no self restraint...cant believe wendla dies...i knew morizt was gunna but shit....this play tells it!

  • Isle has gorgeous hair.

  • I discovered this play Wednesday Or Thursday this week ( forgot lol) and I've already watched it 3 times :) crazy I know but I really like it, and I cried at the part where Melchior found Wendlas grave :(

  • @giniethesinger Same here :) I watched it 4 times...discovered it few weeks ago. This end always touches me...

  • @GleefulUnited I know.. It's so sad but it makes you think about what you just saw... :*) At least we both got to watch it and see how wonderfully amazing it is.. <3

  • this was soooo amazing. <3 never thought i'd get to chance to see this but i stumbled across your videos and discovered how truly beautiful this musical is. thank you so much!!! :D

  • that was amazing! i love musicals and this was the first time hearing about this play and the songs and story blew me away so thank you for uploading this so i could watch it!!!!

  • wow... this is my first time ever completing the musical... so sad! i wasnt expecting the abortion to kill her :'(

  • @marissita02 Like at the end of Ilse's solo and then again when the chairs of rock stand up
