If you have Windows Vista Basic or Professional, it doesn't come with Windows Media Center, and the only way to get it is to upgrade to a newer version, at which point you will also have to buy a TV card to use it.

Rodri, I use the S-Video fine, if you have a Hauppauge card like I do then you need to find the SoftPVR setup from the CD and install it, Media Center should then allow you to capture from your S-Video input. If you have another make of card then I'm sorry I can't help.

For a media center, use Linux MythTV or the new Boxee. Linux uses near to no resorces where as Vista is like 48% before you even run anything.

You dumb ass. EPG is your program guide which changes every week since the broadcasters air different shows and such. MCE fetches this information over the internet (just like Media Portal does), and requires your ZIP code so that it can present to you the tv listings in your area, since if you lived in San Fransisco you probably wouldn't have The Boston Channel 5 listed.

One of my principles is not to talk to idiots, but I'll make one exception for you. I am a telecommunication specialist and EPG is NOT sent over Internet, but is interleaved into the channel as teletext is, and is available on both DVT-T(terristic) and -S(satellite) broadcastings. So all necessary changes are always actual and there is even some form of interactivity made with it(like teletext chat).

To conclude the whole thing, not does MS know your ZIP, but it also has a possibility to send a report on ALL media you have or played to "unknown" location, covering it as a EPG update. And if you still uncertain on MS policy, try to backup a CSS-encrypted(most of them) DVD on your Vista software.

Sorry, but Media Center and other PC based PVR software, downloads its EPG data from an internet feed, and uses your ZIP code to track down what sat/cable tv listings are in your area. It is unable to get the listings from using your cable line. If it was as simple as getting the EPG data from the cable line, than we wouldn't require so many different EPG plugins for MediaPortal.

And the same fucking requirements: if I want to have a server with a small memory, I'll need Linux, because I could delete the heavy GUI, but Can I delete the Graphical Interface from Windows Vista if I only wants a server?
