One of the greatest poets of our age, the brilliant Justin Currie and the rest of the boys that made the music to the heart rending lyrics of Del Amitri.
there's nothing or no-one as miserable / humourous as someone from scotland! being rained on virtually 365 days a year would explain it. I know, I'm Irish.
The brutal truth and beauty of this song never ceases to strike me. Absolutely magnificent. This is before my time, and much lighter than my usual stuff, but by God, it's absolutely incredible.
@sadie376 Really? Relevant? "Nothing Ever Happens". Aren't quite a lot of things happening? A huge power shift in the Middle East, the global economy crashing, people being put out of work the world over as a result of austerity measures, national catastophe in Japan... I quite like the song as my parents played it when I was a kid, but I wouldn't describe it as being 'still relevant'.
@paulos3000000000000 It's relevant in the same way his other lyric says:"So some folks are fighting for freedom, while you're just fighting the flab. And there-in lies the reason that life is a drag"
@paulos3000000000000 Of course it is. All of those things have happened and have been happening since the beginning of time. Markets have crashed, we have seen wars, work stoppages, and natural disasters before. And just like in the song, nothing stops, it just all starts over again the next day.
I'm only 14, and Del Amitri has been one of my favorite bands since I was about 7. The songs are great, the lyrics are great, the soul is great, and the passion is great. If only more people knew of them...
this song was in the first ever stage play i performed in "road" by jim cartwright i played in on guitar and sang it, it still means as much :) fucking tune and a half!!!!!!!
Probably one of the most important protest pop songs of the last 20 years. This should be played on every General Election Day as a message to politicians rather than all the sham excitement that things are gonna change! Yeah right. It's a shame this song hasn't jerked us all out of our complacent slumbers.
Great band .Great songs,Great live.....One of the most underrated uk bands ever.. Deserve alot more recognition than they got. Seen them live a few times and never disapointed, so much better than you imagine them to be...Don't think they officially broke up?? What they up to these days ???
Really Bugs me when the Radio DJ says next up,Del Amitri,then...they DON'T play this??? When I am reflecting upon my stupid directionless life,I listen to this, not saying it helps me feel better or worst, but it always makes me think.
arguably the best lyrics ever written...but definitely the best song i have ever heard...i fell in love with this song when it was first released and some 20 yrs later, it made no.1 in my top 20 songs of all time....it's just unsurpassable
@DjLagartijo You could try - Driving With The Brakes On, Don't Come Home Too Soon, Drowned On Dry Land, In The Frame, It Might As Well Be You, Long Way Down, Make It Always Be Too Late, Move Away Jimmy Blue, Evidence, Whiskey Remorse, What I Think She Sees, Spit In The Rain ..... and they're just the one's i think are similiar :) there are so many other great songs of theirs. have fun, and welcome to the world of Del Amitri :))
@MrCarlturner118 Del amitri were a brilliant band from glasgow, the singer is justin currie. The have split up for a few years now. This song is of the cd called waking hours and i would recomend it. Another great del amitri song is SPIT IN THE RAIN try and listen if you can.
@MrCarlturner118 Oh wow, you are so young but still you like that song, very impressive! I once read about a guy aged 17 who listend to delamitri, but you are only sixteen. This seems so unreal..
You probably think that makes you cool, but it doesn't!
@MrCarlturner118 I can relate! I was 16 when I first heard Del Amitri back in 1990 (it was this very song!) and they became my all-time favourite band! I'm still listening to them over 20 years later, they never seem to age...
@ChrisLikesFreeStuff no mate, just goes to show how music has gone down the shitter, all you need now is a catchy 30 second hook for ringtone downloads sometimes i dispair
@clivedamagedgoods just remember how many others are listening and believing in better things because an artist put it into words so that no one will forget :)
@clivedamagedgoods that is a reassuringly human response mate. Justin's work just opens our eyes to the wrongs in our society, we have to want to make a change to make it happen don't we.
dudes after swigging down a bottle of morgan spice rum, am i proud? no, but gonna run to toilet in a second, ain't settling, in drunken haze just wanna say legend song.
I can hear the Chariots rumble I can see the marching throng the fury of Gods trumpet spell the end to Sin and wrong. (etc) ''Nothing Ever Happens'' for some reason reminds me of the words above. Lyrics from a song we sang at church in the 70s.. Why does it appear as if nothing ever happens?
@rolyat136 " 4Then I saw that all toil and all skill in work come from a man’s envy of his neighbor. This also is(G) vanity and a striving after wind."
"Again, I saw vanity under the sun: 8one person who has no other, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his toil, and his(M) eyes are never satisfied with riches, so that he never asks,(N) "For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?" This also is vanity and an unhappy(O) business."
all so called musicians should be made to sit down and listen to this, not only listen but read the lyrics as well, then we might not have to put up with the shit that clogs the airwaves these days.
There was a song with rather similar lyrics called "The Town I Live In" in he 1960s with classic lines like "the town I live in has 27 churches, and avenues lined with silver birches... there's lots of new houses and brand new primary aschools, etc etc etc etc"
With estimates of the number of young children (under 6 years old) of up to 40,000 dieing every single day from hunger or preventable disease, the lyrics of this great song are so very relevant. There is way too much apathy in the world.
'They'll burn down the synagogues at 6 o'clock and we'll all go along like before' Great stuff, shaking us out of our complacent lives. Real shit is going on in the world and we're watching X Factor!
I think i was about 9 when i herd this song... I took it into school and sung it for my singing teacher and she gave me a solo for the school concert, this was in the UK. 3 years later e moved to australia and everytime i hear this song it reminds me of enland and the concert 6 years ago. makes me cry.
As relevant now as it was back then. (If not more so) One of those profound songs, which once you have listened to it, you never quite feel the same ever again. REM's 'Everybody Hurts', Crash Test Dummies 'Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm' and Baz Lurman's 'Everybody's free to wear sunscreen' are the ones which do it for me. Oh and anything by Talking Heads.
@duncaninchina I watched all those songs, and it got to me - positively. Thank you for recommending that, I really appreciate strangers like you who give a positive message. The world would be a better place if more people could appear on youtube at 4am and make you think differently.
A song that is in my head & my heart 24/7 - always there in the background if I need it, like a crutch or a helping hand... Very special..
