Boxing skills with some ground and pound + decent take down defense = UFC hall of fame.

@Thatmeat : Idk, Nogueira has been training boxing since he was 14 and couldn't put Couture out, so even if Toney does catch him (which is the only way he can win), there's not a 100% guarantee that he can put him out. Fact is that Toney could catch Couture and knock him out. If that DOESNT happen, then Toney's leg will be kicked into the 6th row or he's going to be submitted in a matter of minutes.

I just think that 6 months of experience is not going to be enough to stack up to Coutures 14 years of mastery. And, yes, i agree that Nogueira's boxing is not on the same planet as Toney's. I was simply pointing out that he has fought and stood with hard punchers before.

@Thatmeat I have to respectfully disagree. Toney is used to fighting in 8oz or 10oz gloves. Now when he fights Couture he will be wearing 2oz gloves I believe. That makes all the difference with Toney's power. That will enable him to ko Couture with one punch if he has the chance to use his Boxing skills.To me there is a question mark with Coutures chin especially in his last few fights. It will be an interesting fight. I'm picking Toney to catch him early. First round tko for Toney.

@smokeRocks509 Toney could've been the best boxer in the world at the time he stepped into the ring with Randy and that fight would've have ended the same. He couldn't defend the simplest takedown in MMA, and was choked out in 3 minutes. If it was a boxing match, then I can see Toney getting the win. But that's I think is great about the UFC, you have to be well versed in so many different styles not only on your feet, but on the mat as well.

Boxing is a style of fighting just as viable as any other so "magic bullet" styles like Brazilian Jujitsu. Gracie got exposed, you can't have a long career without boxing skills. And once fighters got better at take down defense the strikers with good boxing skills like Ortiz, Liddell DOMINATED the UFC.
Boxing skills with some ground and pound + decent take down defense = UFC hall of fame.

Why is it when a fighter comes to the UFC with a 3tier wrestling background UFC fan boys give a shot and don't question his professionalism. But when a real world champion boxer comes along UFC fan boys write him off as some type of joke, when stand-up is extremely vital in the UFC. If James Tony has decent take down defense I give him a really good shot and having a pretty good future in the UFC

@masonparks I do not know that much about MMA. Toney is not a one punch knockout artist in boxing. It would be interesting to see one of boxing's greats fight in MMA. A prime Tyson or Foreman v the best MMA has to offer woukd be great! If Toney loses then I am sure that this will open the door for more boxers wanting to come through. The trouble is that there are no great heavyweights nowadays. I think this will look fairly bad on MMA if Toney does win though.

James Toney's best chance at beating Couture will be if he knocks him out standing up. He WILL HAVE TO catch him with a punch(a skilled punch) to beat Couture. He certainly has the skill in the boxing game to out box Couture and make him look like an amature... Anything past boxing, Toney is dead meat.

Thats better lol and I do agree with you. Just as a boxer, I get annoyed when people use the "lucky punch" line since I personally know how much work goes into perfecting it. Anyway, even though Toney is a master boxer, it's not the type of boxing style fit for mma (Tysons is/was ideal). He lays back and counters which should make him a sitting duck. I'm picking Couture to get an easy win although I will be rooting for Toney.
