  • What? He didn't think the pasty grub people were irresistibly sexy?

  • This is not a review m8, its a descriptive diagnosis and plot spoiler of the whole movie.

  • @Riimmdogg I like to think of them as "video essays".

  • I have a real soft spot for this movie. By any objective metrics, it's mediocre, yet somehow the whole is more than the sum of the parts. One of the keystones is Bernstein's score, which is way above average for a "me too" genre movie. Lots of whistful and melancholy cues in there.

I laughed at the section on Overdog McNab's bizarre motivations in becoming unquestioned patriarch of a total shithole.

  • A lot of villains have illogical motivations. For instance, consider Skeletor's worthless campaign to defeat He-Man, on a peaceful, spacious, sparsely-inhabited world. He could just as easily build some kind of large estate and leisure complex, and be prosperous, successful and well-liked, instead of pursuing ridiculous schemes to defeat a small number of self-generated enemies, abetted by a group of incompetent buffoon lackeys.

  • @TitanFind Skeletor just wants attention.

  • Oh, I guess that's actually "wistful", but I like the idea of a music score that encourages a card game drive attended by middle-aged women.

  • Haha! C.H.U.D!

  • My dad was the doctor's assistant who injects the 3 models haha. He's even on the DVD case in the middle bottom....and my mom was an Amazonian mermaid......terrible movie though haha :p

  • @JaredPKBC Damn! So did they meet on set?

  • @strontiumcrypt No but that would be good story I suppose haha

  • @JaredPKBC You are so lucky,I loved this movie when i was a kid you wouldn't believe! I liked it some much i bought a field sequential player and a VHD rip to DVD so i could watch it in 3D. I knew it was kind of a rip off of mad max but in a child's eyes it was the greatest!

  • Saw this in 3D when it came out.

  • Your whimsical review was very entertaining thanks! Now if I could only find this gem :-)

  • @cassacacia It's got a dvd release. I picked up my copy at HMV.

  • @strontiumcrypt I love that you bought this, I'm not sure I'd go that far ;-)

  • @cassacacia Probably very wise.

  • @strontiumcrypt Hahaha should I turn the dl off!

  • @strontiumcrypt So, I watched it. It definitely would've been wise not to, but I never learn. First off I think the budget went towards plastic, metal, and some explosives. I completely agree with your pigeon talk comment for Molly. However, I have seen way worse, and although it's not the greatest movie by far it was mildly entertaining. The most annoying part for me was the same music over and over again which gave me a headache. Anyways, as to one of your what the hell moments...

  • @strontiumcrypt I believe they were trying to portray the "sleeper" move and executed it poorly. As for Strauss I think he was alright, I mean for me Ernie Hudson kinda spoiled it because he just didn't fit into his role very well. Also one last thing Ironside's evil motivation was obvious, it's what most men want, sex, sex and sex. Thanx for your review though it was stellar, and I never would've watched this without your hilarious and encouraging review. :-)

  • @strontiumcrypt Darn I hate when I forget to mention things, but I also wanted to point out that it was obvious Chalmers was an android in the beginning. When she goes to say money she stutters twice and Strauss puts his hand on her shoulder and she powers back up. Also when he discovered she was dead he does show a slight amount of emotion albeit quick. Still your review is great and the movie was a total trip!

  • You don't know who Peter Strauss is? If you're going to critique something, you should educate yourself on it first. You sound like you might be old enough to remember when this movie actually came out. But your smart ass tone makes me disinterested in your point of view.

  • @juliabohemian I apologize, Mrs. Strauss. Rich Man/ Poor Man is next on my list.

  • @strontiumcrypt your predictable humor gives me chills.

  • @juliabohemian In a good way or bad way?

  • What a horrible, horrible film. I saw it in the theater when I was a young kid with my parents and I believe we walked out in the middle. I liked Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back and always enjoyed when they showed the classic 3D flick "Gorilla At Large" on WDCA Channel 20 in Washington DC, so we may all enjoy a 3D Star Wars type film....WRONG. It was a bit like watching paint dry, but to a high budget. We should have seen Amityville 3-D instead which is still bad, but not as bad.

  • @thatmuse76 Boo this man.

  • Man! Does anyone have the full movie posted? That would be kick ass! I haven't seen it in a long long time. Let me know if someone has the full version. Or I may just have to go on my own adventure looking for a copy.

  • @Brimstone3x6 crackle.com

Went there looking for another movie and Spacehunter was actually advertised right on the homepage.

  • @sweetpeaginnis thank ye sir

  • @Brimstone3x6 You're welcome, but I'm not a sir. =P

  • @sweetpeaginnis my mistake ma'am. much obliged none the less.

  • That cut off too suddenly. You're review started off with a typically smart alecky tone, but I hung in there, and think you did a good job overall. It's sick that this movie is actually watchable, but you're wrong about the action scenes you mention. All the action in both are cut in the same fashion. The protagonist sees the obstacal, then there's a scene of him/her jumping in air with no relation to said obstacal, then they're on the other side. Ooo, that was close. But, Ironsides was good.

  • @JWRandall423 I really should have said art direction. The train with sails being assaulted by bikes an hang-gliders was one of the more interesting things in the movie. When you make a movie this there really should be an attempt to portray something odd and different that sticks out. That scene, and the bits with Ironside and his death maze were the closest too that.

  • @strontiumcrypt Allow me to apologize. Having viewed your review again, you did not specify the action nor the art direction, but your comments do lean more towards the art direction end of things, so my bad. By the way Peter Strauss is mostly known for his T.V. work, and is still working to this day. A good movie to check out where he plays the lead would be "The Jerico Mile". It's a T.V. movie from 1979, co-written (sharing an Emmy with Patrick J. Nolan) and directed by Michael Mann.

  • The movie is riddled with subtle hints on planet terra XI's history, you see "serum repository" sign when wolf broke into that dust dome just before meeting nikki. I can only assume Mcnabb used the plague as a means to gain a power position but then he probably suffered more than patterson due to age but had the means to make a mech body that requires human vitality the movie tries to fit a lot in a time frame an relies on the rescue mission to push the plot forward I liked it despite it's flaws

  • @Jaegar19Ultima I'd watch a prequel.

  • @strontiumcrypt same here, the civil war story behind the planet they are in is far more interesting than the cliche' save the princess plot, but I did like a lot of the character moments with nikki and washington and the funny one liners, A great sub plot was wasted on this movie though, which is why I write in my spare time and spacehunter's subplot is an inspiration, personally a prequel with michael ironside would rock, but only the makers behind ghost busters should get behind making it

  • I was more intregued with the backstory revolving Grandman Patterson the old man at 4:38 and Overdog Mcnabb ( overdog meaning champion, fitting for a dictator) a third unknown probably killed in the feud during the medical expedition to combat the PSI plague, the expedition consisted of Patterson and Mcnabb who by the context of the story had been fighting each other for years, before the draining of nikki scene he mentions he's very old but he couldn't be too much older than grandman (cont)

  • oh my god I remember as a young child watching an advert for a film with this galleon train thing.

I had long thought I had just dreamt it!

  • @Fedaykin24 Oh, no. It's all too real.

  • First off, I can't believe someone else remembers this movie. Are you going to review Krull or Ice Pirates? Your recapturing of these films is great and too funny.

  • @donovan1971 Oh yeah. A Krull review will be coming up in August. Thanks for the kind words.

  • @strontiumcrypt I made a cool advert for a Krull review on my channel. Never actually made the review!

  • His spaceship had a cool feature. When he landed, the ship would cover / hide itself with dirt.

  • Best yet. Enjoyed the intro. Reading the teaser + off beat images = me laughing. Liked the bounty hunter stuff too.

  • Best one yet!
