@marktwainisgod Ah, well that is a completely different method and problem entirely. Versions of Sibelius beyond Sib4 use a different method. As far as I recall, it uses a sort-of VST system where Kontakt would be a sort-of plugin, whereas my method uses the two applications independently. I don't use Sibelius 5 so I'm afraid I can't be of much help, sadly :( Look into the application "Jbridge" for another way of using your VST's and look into Sibelius sound sets. Sorry I couldn't help more :(
@marktwainisgod That's because Sibelius doesn't "see" Kontakt at all. You have to install a Virtual MIDI cable, in this example I used Midi Yoke. Then in Sibelius you set the output to Midi Yoke 1 (or whatever number you want) and in Kontakt you set the input to Midi Yoke 1. The idea is simple. It's like hooking up a cable between the two.
This video is very helpful for me as I've been mystified for a long time on how to use Kontakt 4 and get to work with Sibelius and Cakewalk. I use Sibelius 6 though... hope it works though.
Glad it's helpful! It's quite a bit different for Sib 5 and later. I'll try to do up a tutorial sometime soon detailing the process. Good luck and happy composing!
First of all, thanks a lot for doing this man, it's really clear and it's the only vid that finally solved this mistery...
I write and arrange for Big Bands and I wanted to know what is the best way to link different channels to different sounds, for instance...
each midi-yoke out and in corresponds to one sound? what if I have 10 different sounds, how do I link them and tell sibelius which sound corresponds with which staff....
@piojoarg10 It depends on the version of Sibelius you are using. In Sibelius 5 and later, they really screwed up the system (in my opinion). There's no easy way to do this in Sib 5 and later and quite simply there's no way to do it period with any sort of virtual midi cable such as Midi Yoke.
If you have Sib 4, it's just like it is in the tutorial. 16 channels for each Midi Yoke "port". In Sib, set the port and channel to correspond with each port and channel in Kontakt. Hope this helps :)
Sorry for the delay here. There is no way that I know of to do what you ask. I'm not saying it's impossible, I just don't know of a way. I'll look into it for you. I've never really tried it before so I'll see what I can do.
The silent output is usually due to bad output device.. that was my case.. I'm using 2 different cards and the one that I use for writing music is Presonus Studio... since it does not have a virtual recording interface (as does say Realtek), i had to physically loop the playback Out 1/2 signal to Inputs 3/4 and get it to work.
Yeah I will, sooner or later. It's just an issue of juggling life, school, and two machinima projects. Good luck with getting your software to work. :)
I'm not really sure. Prior to your question here I had never even heard of Reaper. Not being familiar with the application at all, I really am not sure what the problem could be. I would check all your export settings, make sure your routing and everything is set up properly, etc. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I have a question. I have a Korg Triton Extreme keyboard/synth and it's connected to Sibelius 4. I can play the keyboard and input the notes on Sibelius that way. However, let's say I want to record something on my digital recorder with my keyboard...something that's much too hard (fast) for me to play. Is there a way that I can write the song in Sibelius and send the song through my keyboard to read and play into my recorder? I don't think it's possible, but I thought I would ask...
Yeah, a Roland digital recorder. So essentially I would probably have to go from Sibelius, into my keyboard, then into my recorder. I'm pretty sure it's not possible though. The keyboard would have to be able to read the notes on Sibelius, produce a much better sound (which is the point and reason I'm using it in the first place), and then just straight into my recorder. I know Pro Tools now has Sibelius built in and is also compatible with awesome sounding programs, so...I might just do that.
Well, I think it depends on the particular keyboard you're using. I don't typically plug my keyboard into my computer because I'm not the best piano player in the world :P
Theoretically, though...you could set your keyboard as your midi in and midi out and it SHOULD work, but like I said, I'm not really sure. Hope you get it to work :)

I've never used Kontakt 2 so I can't say for sure. However, I can say for sure that there are indeed saxophone sounds in Kontakt 3.

Is your keyboard what you're using to record or are you using some other external recording device?
