When I was young, there was a little concrete bowl in the city park, around 200 yards around. I was smoking weed there with my buds, and we decided to time ourselves on our bikes. I was fastest, at around 25 seconds. Is that considered fast? I had a Schwinn, so it was maybe an unfair advantage over my friends. They had Huffys or Murrays. One guy's foot came off the pedal, and he went over the bars. We laughed so hard!
During the 2010 AFRICAN WORLD CUP in South Africa - the Nederlanders were the most gracious and loved tourists - of all visitors.
As for Track Cycling - again the Nederlanders are amazing - as I recall when we raced against them in South Africa - they ate us up and spat us out through their amazing cycling prowess ...
@zach00attack well there is kinda, but not in the conventional sense of a lever, on single speed bikes the chain works both ways ie. if you pedal backwards you move backwards, so thats how they brake, but they dont do it while racing so its kinda pointless lol
@tennisrulesok I'm pretty sure you mean "fixed gear" (i.e. a track hub), many single-speed bikes are not fixed (i.e. freewheel hub). They aren't the same thing. Also, pedaling backwards is not how one brakes on a track (assuming a reasonable time period, like an emergency where a "brake" is needed): at such speeds and cadence one "skip stops", shifting forward or up enough to go straight to locking the rear wheel. Kills the wheel, but doesn't kill you.
@hslch ohh i see, i didnt realise it was like that, when it was explained to me it was explained very vaguely so i assumed a back pedal acted as the brake, cheers for fillin me in though
haha, yeah! he probably reallllly needs someone to tell him what gear to ride in. I'm sure Theo Bos would appreciate it if you just let him know that he's doing it all wrong. I mean, really, he's only one of the world's finest. He could use a little help from you, O guru of idiotic YouTube comments.
It's a time trial, you just have to have the best time (a short one at that). Bringing in other riders changes everything, drafting, having the inside lane, it's no longer a measure of shear power output and instead adds strategy.
about drugs, regardless if they do drugs or not. they still have to have the genetics to be incredibly fast to start with. then you go from there. We have a 13 yo kid who is winning in the cat, c's! and he just started!! it's all genetics and drive.
I think on here somewhere someone posted the gears and speed. But if i remember , it was a 50-14/51-14. and about 65+kph. We had the US team motor pacing behind the elec. bike at our 'drome doing 72kph. even the elec bike rider was a bit freaked out in the corners with the added G's.
i dont under stand the german as well.. As a junior in a 50/14 i hit 72.??kph on my road bike, 80+ kph while drafting a city bus, think at one point i hit 160+ rpm as well. on the mag trainer in winter training after warm up ,in the small ring I once hit 368 rpm for a split second. I was 16 at the time, did a 1.10 kilo and the coach told me if i hadent "made it by then" dont bother!! and that was on a borrowed track bike!! 88in/ gear!!.
I just hit 211 on the trainer last night, and 148 on the velodrome in a 82 in (49*16) gear. The 368 was with almost no resistance and for a split second. the record i heard of as a kid was over 500 rpm by a Chec, or german fella in the 80's.!. if your really a true sprinter you will know you can go over 200 rpm in the small ring and when fit 160 is common in a 50-14 when doing intervals. 51-14 at 130 rpm is 62.4 kph.
What about all those little kids that go blasting down the footpaths on their little plastic tricycles doing what seems like a million rpm cadence. . . . . . and they dont even use cleats . . . .

Well, mustardjunkie, according to your logic and evidence, stated so authoritatively on youtube, every person who rides a bicycle or rides a bicycle faster than you dopes. Is on the juice. Guilty by association gives those not willing or wanting to see the facts, comfort in knowing that they know everything there is to know about everything others proclaim they know everything about.
You just hate it when someone else likes a rider you have condemned through you bizarre logic.

Sireau clocked 9.650 seconds, beating the previous record time of 9.772 seconds, which Theo Bos set on December 16, 2006.
