  • WOW... Next to my friend Matt's video, this is one of the best videos of Old Tiger Stadium before the rest was torn down. I probably would have spent more time wandering around the rest of the stadium taping more stuff! How did you get in? GREAT JOB and thanks for posting this...

  • That is the visitor locker room & dugout he was in.

  • I'm one of the names on the lockers in the video. We're the last fantasy campers to play there in 2001.

  • Those names in the Tiger clubhouse are the last fantasy campers who played there in October 2001. I was one of them and I'm one of the names over the lockers. Looks like we were one of the last to go via the bulldozers.

  • @62KSP Thanks for clearing the clubhouse names mystery. I've been a Tiger fan for sometime and none of those names rang a bell. I was not aware that they held a fantasy camp at Tiger Stadium. They always promote the one in Lakeland. That must have been a thrill to participate in the fantasy camp and use the locker rooms ! Of course now all that is left is the "Field of Dreams". There are people that are currently maintaining the field and I hear impromptu games pop up every now and then.

  • Half expected to see the Blair Witch pop out in that creepy clubhouse; cool you got to take "the walk" the big leaguers got to all those years ago to the dugout; remembered to bring a flashlight, heh heh.

damn, the decay as you enter the dugout. ridiculous they would so perfectly preserve the home plate/press box area for other possible events, but then erase that as well. RIP, Mr. Harwell. Both you and the stadium are now in the great beyond.

  • The Tiger organization missed an opportunity of a lifetime; to market the historic factor of this place, as 'cool'. From a 'retro' perspective. What the Cubs have done with Wrigley; what the Red Sox have done with Fenway. There was a study done at Tiger Stadium in the '98 timeframe that stated that it was in very decent structural condition at that time. What it needed was a facelift. But in Detroit, that is not 'in' and erecting 'new' seems to be the norm. How sad.

  • You summed it up perfectly. I remember reading that a renovation was at one point being seriously considered. What a shame, it is disgusting that such a unique place was deemed inadequate.

  • man... its actually a decent skyline view. Almost seems like they could've saved some of the stadium, and rebuilt a new one around it, thus keeping the history and tradition, AND getting modern park. Oh well.... too late now

  • Very cool, How did you get inside?

  • Id imagine he just snuck in. Ive been wanting to do the same.

  • I've never heard of ANY of those names. Weird.

  • I haven't either. I googled 1999 Detroit Tigers and I did not see any of those names. Maybe they were minor league call ups in September ? It wasn't a very good team that year. They were managed by Larry Parrish and had a record of 69-92.

  • @loungelizard5000 Don't "duh" me, kiddo. Look up the names on the Internet. NONE of them EVER played major league baseball, for the Tigers or any visiting team. Duh.

  • @rhymeswithrawk Noted. I removed my comments. Sorry for "assuming" and jumping the gun.

  • @rhymeswithrawk I have an idea. I have a friend who's rich father-in-law bought him a chance to play with a bunch of retired Tigers at Comerica Park. Dave Rozema pitched to my friend, and he got a uniform with his name on the back and a baseball card of himself etc. It cost like a couple grand I think. Maybe they had a couple of these "Fantasy" BB games at the old stadium, 'Your LAST CHANCE to play at Tiger Stadium" and they put the fans names up in the locker room. That's one theory. Maybe? LOL

  • Eerie to watch this as I mentally superimpose players from '84 walking down this very corridor with an echoed cheering sound. Thanks for posting.

  • I also wondered what it would have been like in the clubhouse in 1984 after they had won the World Series. I happened to have stormed the field in the celebration after the win and with the exception of Bubba and the burning of police cars it was a night to remember. With so much history here it seems like we are in a unique position to do something positive. I hope for the best because Detroit is such a great sports town.

  • Those names are from people who played in the last fantasy camp there in 2002 and they just never removed the names.

  • TEAR IT DOWN

  • That would be the easy thing to do and with the condition of disrepair it's in now I can see your point. I think with Detroit being such a great sports city that we could make a go of this. Detroit has torn down so many architectually significant buildings that it's downright sad. Saving Tiger Stadium and retrofitting it for the modern era could be a huge urban planning bonanza, The history and the passion of the fans cannot be denied. Hopefully someone can step up to the plate with a plan.
