Hooks are indeed important, the tragedy of many many mainstream musicians is that they have hooks SO catchy the song doesn't even need content, resulting in shallow songs.

So my advice is get a solid idea for a song first, then hook it ;)

Hey If anyone can Help me Id Appreciate it, im a 16 year old, i make beats to the best of my ability, but i really want to do vocals, mainly because im in a singing/ songwriting class. i actually would never buy a beat wit a pre made hook on it.. but thats just because it stunts creativity.. i like making my own hooks up

i think there should be a part in the beat where you can tell where to put a hook, but a premade hook kills the creativity

@flowtraceur hooks are used in any genre of music. a hook is basically a chorus in other words.they just call it hook cause thats the part of the song that is suppose 2 hook the listener into enjoying the song basically.. it is almost important for a producer/songwriter/ musician to know the types of music forms for example the classic ABAB form or the verse chorus form..it just builds structure in your music. hope that better help u understand wut mr nxf is talking about.
