  • @MariikanElusion haha, removing your comments, eh? that's the bellwether of a sore looser! haha, thank you, i'll take a bow

  • Best thing I've done today was to like this song.

  • so was it a funeral or a wedding or what?

  • The first verse and chorus are my favourite lyrics ever.

  • Great Band.

  • is it fair to say that the live version is better? The national are my second favourite, if not favourite band

  • BOXER Best album of decade!!!

  • This needs to hit 1 million views NOW

  • @iniminipini Don't worry, I'll watch it 50,000 more times myself.

  • Should be working but instead I keep

playing this video over and over again!

  • Gotta bust out the air-drums for this number!

  • @xXDeanBeanXx heh, yeah never a big fan of thumb whoring either.

  • @xXDeanBeanXx misread his comment, bro?

  • My girl likes me to sing this to her, sometimes.

  • LOL 1:51 Doesn't exist. XD

  • alwayswheezy YAYYY!

  • 2:40

  • this is music at its most purposeful,a companion to emote with while reminiscing your silly crazy life..music thats there with ur experiences to enhance them&make you aware of those moments' preciousness..a good tune for me is something that will be sad with me when im down&wont try to disturb that into some glib line about how its OK..complementing all this input i get everyday from everything ...this music is deceptively life-affirming,for all its magical&somber droning

  • @carlo88moe probably the most pretentious load of bollocks i've ever heard

  • @MariikanElusion people quick to admonish what other's say or do as "bullocks" aren't nearly as brave enough to actually attempt to say something stupid, so they stay idle and and up having done shit, while those who get over the fear of being called ridiculous and chance something, may or may not end up saying something inane, but won't have to live with the idea of not trying. So it may well be bullocks and pretentious, im just glad i chanced it, while u remain cynical&pointless

  • @MariikanElusion i use to do the same frequently,i could wait to tell someone how pretentious and full of shit they were, its was a means of posturing =&conferred a lot of self-worth i thought. But that was bull, taking the intellectual high-ground by deriding a thing as highfalutin&haughty didnt add anything to me really, and it doesnt for you.But keep letting that cynicism linger you dickhead, its bound to ossify and then youre left w an ace foundation 4 being cunty curmudgeon

  • @MariikanElusion lol, admonishing grammar on utube is tawdry as hell, not to mention stupid as fuck.Would u grouse about the dirt on the floor outside? the fact that the concept of shorthand eludes you is actually more indicative of your dimness, not mine. Its not my life story, its more about how your a massive cunt,in case you missed the point.Exactly what word did i use incorrectly?being disconcerted by words above ur intellectual level isnt the same as me using words i dont know

  • @MariikanElusion oh wait, lol, i just got it. you think i'm using words incorrectly bc you had to look them up. when you did, as when anyone learns a new word, you took it way too literally. smarter people can use words liberally, take the idea of the metaphor..you do know what that is right? this just means you all the more stupider. pointing out that sm1 else is being bombastic usually is just a sad fool who's offended by another's more learned diction.

  • you're myopic as shit too;it's nice how u suddenly take the moral high ground on a tiff you started. What u basically did was call me a douche, then, once i responded, say"whoa hey, dont be a reasonable person&get incensed after i called u a douche, don't be rational and respond indignantly to an insult?"People DID only come here for the song, that & to call people idiots,as per you, right?no one gives a shit yet you felt impelled to respond to my comment? pfft, div

  • @MariikanElusion i wonder if you can restrain yourself, after this thorough beat down of your mongoloid ass, take your own advice and "kindly fuck off?"

  • Comment removed

  • @MariikanElusion you still haven't pointed out what words ive used hastily? impelled and compelled are synonymous you dumb fuck

  • Comment removed

  • @MariikanElusion oh but now impelled is not a mistake? why, because you found out you were retarded saying it wasnt the right word?? haha...okay,"more stupider" was a mistake, not incorrect usage of a word, ANDDDD that mistake was in a response AFTER (get the chronology right you idiot)your first response...so what erroneous word usage were you referring to initially in that first response? No, youre clearly the retard

  • @carlo88moe It doesn't matter you still made a pathetic grammatical error. Just go home. You're so boring and you care so much about your stupid comments. Well done you got a top comment congratulations. It obviously means a lot to you in your life that you spend so much time spurting bullshit out of your loose asshole. Perhaps that's what someone might remember you for. Your life's greatest achievement: Cringe youtube comments. Sounds like a good life.

  • @MariikanElusion no, man, just responding to a moron, i like powning massive cunts that think they can start shit o youtube, as you thought you could do without any backlash...seems to me you like spurting bullshit just as much as supposedly i do...the error was minor, you can use either "more stupid" or "stupider", i just in the heat of typing conflated them...yeah, i'm a bore, and my life's sad, okay! though then still responding to me say loads about your pathetic life!

  • @MariikanElusion and technically you commit a grammatical error yourself when you asserted dimly that impelled wasnt a word, haha, that's as legitimate as my mistake....you double talk and cant back up your bullshit... i dont give a shit about my comment, BUT YOU DID, it just vexed you so much you had respond, huh u cunt? if my comment could get a rise outta you then that just says loads about how pitiful your life really is..okay, i'm dont you your dumb ass

  • Comment removed

  • @MariikanElusion dude, there's bound to be errors when you type a lot while not giving a shit!? does that concept resonate at all in you or are you a fucking rock?

it was suppose to be I'M DONE WITH, not I'm don't you,a smarter person wouldve connected those dots. All your supposed catches dont add up to shit! anyway, your first gripe was about my use of"the wrong words"(referring to my bombastic style)-not grammatical errors.U didnt find any,bc there were none.Ure a cunt,THE END

  • @MariikanElusion more suitable? that's subjective as hell, i've heard impelled as many times as compelled, there's nothing out there that says one is "more" apropos than the other, youre just a douche who didnt realize it actually was a word? and yes it was an error, not the ignorance but the "marking it as an error of mine" was the error, just as pathetic as misusing a word. so it was a vocab error, but then you KNOW automatically its less suitable, a word you just learned?DIV!

  • It's always the simple songs that get you.

  • Hi everyone !

Check out our version of The National's Bloodbuzz Ohio

    S/lane

  • I think Matt looks better with a beard :D

    but great Video+Song

  • It is so good to remember joy division, comes with so good memories, but with new and fresh sound ... great :)

  • the post-Joy Division Era

  • If you love The National, YOU MAY REALLY LIKE US.

  • Matt looks weird without beard.

  • @3:20 bringing up a the national fan from the beginning. epicness.

  • To the drummer:

Jesus, man, tuck your shirt in. Look interested, ffs!

  • The National turn generic, indistinct garage band music into something profound, and yet nonetheless hazy - like a dream you are struggling to recall upon waking up because of how significant and life-affirming it was at the time (regardless of how depressing it might have seemed to others). That's what they mean to me.

  • @Shawnmeat Beautiful thoughts, man.

  • This band by far is the best band! I love them!

  • I feel better when i listen to this band

  • 3:08 That is definitely Chase from House

  • @IRLKids79 not even close.

  • they're all brothers??

  • bravi

  • The National and The Editors... both masters at producing what would normally be depressing and grey music... into something magical and absorbing its all in the voice, good heaven dont make me choose!

  • This clip is really good and as iMieanitT said you don't realize it's a good song at first but when you start beatin' the rythm with your feet/hand hell yes !

  • i see their influences so blatantly and normally id run into some jealous immature youtube rant about it but theyre so good it doesnt seem to matter...

  • kinda curious

The National is a band that I consider to have the best lyrics, instrumentals, and vocals its really unique and amazing.

I was wondering if their are any suggestions from people for a band similar in quality to the national. I've only found 1 or 2 and they sound nothing like them but I'm asking for quality not duplications.

  • @Kingmitch13 Arcade Fire. You've probably heard them, they'r getting to be kind of a big deal, but they are worth an in-depth listen if you haven't done so yet. And if you have, they're worth another in-depth listen.

  • @laffingman21

This. I don't listen to them very often, but they're about the closest I can think of.

The Airborne Toxic Event seems to be a good match, to me. Great lyrics, implementation of classical instruments, and the occasional energetic song.

  • @Kingmitch13

    sufjan stevens

    interpol

    nick drake

    tim Buckley

    Paul simon

    Pete Doherty

    tacks the boy diaster

some in my national play list :D

  • I would marry that girl in the red heels.

  • @tubreezy hahaha i know right!? for some reason i kind of fell in love too.

  • @tubreezy she's my wife, dude.

  • these kinds of songs are bound to break even those fortified hearts

  • the national - simply kings among men.

love this random track i heard because of one line:

"listening to the velvet underground when we were 15, hiding in the bushes drinking turpentine and dreaming". not quite national-esque! haha.

  • the singers got something of dennis bergkamp no?

  • I am so indebted to my friend Bob for turning me onto this band. He said "the Tom Waits side of you will dig it". Um...YEAH. SERIOUSLY. Like Leonard Cohen's voice, but even sexier.

  • @ritzraff that's funny becaus matt berninger's favorite singers/inspirations are tom waits and leonard cohen! :)

  • bravo

  • who is that girl in the red shoes!!!!!

  • @RudiEWallace You don't see her. She gets the party started and then bounces.

  • so is it just me or do drummers look like famous people all the time...

this drummer looks like John Lennon. chilli peppers drummer looks like Will Farrell, and my drummer looks like Lane Staley. lolz

  • this song is # 1 most played on my itunes... out of 7,000 songs! love it

  • You could dance slow and kinda fast to this song...

  • @horsex5 they r not dull they're lo-fi

  • These guys 0:16 ..... love them!

  • @okulary i know that feeling

  • Poised to become a classic. PERIOD, Thumbs Up if you agree!

  • @livefortruth101 Full Stop. For the British fans out there ; )

  • @livefortruth101 easily!

  • This song kinda dupes you in the beginning. You sort of don't pay attention to the song until midway through and then you're like "wow, this is an amazing song" and listen to it again.

  • @iMieaniT that's what the music video is trying to portray.

  • @vanderlylegeeks Haha, didn't even notice.

  • @iMieaniT i guess its because, the camera doesnt goes to the national, but to the people there, and later and later, the attention of the camera goes to the national, buts thats my guess...

  • @iMieaniT That's exactly what happened to me! Wow! Sorry for the late comment reply too. ^^;

  • @iMieaniT 2:37. That's the moment you start to realize this is an incredible song.

  • @iMieaniT Thats just like the movie, in the beginning They dont listen to it... but like you said, in the midway You can see they are dancing with there hands, Looking, at the national :P

  • so who is the red heeled woman?

  • I just discovered this song with the help of one of those Google search stories.

    And I love it! :D

  • I am half in love with the red-heeled woman, and I've only seen her legs.

  • stay inside our rosy minded fuzz

  • she hit the wrong key

    and unleashed my symphony...

    i read my fake book

    and unwound her destiny

  • it's a good song

but it sounds a bit faded!

  • Hmm...a 1446L and red heels combined with awesome camera work and a great song, I love it. Say what you want about baritone singers, this is really, really great.

  • nice

  • Excellent song -- beautifully filmed. The camera angles are fantastic.

  • Wonderful video... got chills for some reason listening to the song, that hasn't happened before

  • I also had this song recommended. It's pleasant enough, but I've gotta hate on it a bit. It's all style, no substance. Drones the same 3 messy chords the entire song, doesn't change up the drums or the stylishly anemic melody. Admittedly it achieves a really cool mood, but to me, it comes off a little lazy. Contrast this song with Tighten Up by the Black Keys or Little Bit of Feel Good by Jamie Lidell.

  • Quite possibly my favourite the National song :)

  • is this their well known music?

  • good to see they know who their demographic is....file under stuff white people like.

  • @andrewjohnston100 lol you know, come to think of it, I don't remember seeing a single black person in the whole video! What the hell?! Usually there's at least ONE tokin black guy! lol

  • @tjweiler1 There are no black hipsters.

  • @usedtowork ummm clearly not where you live.

  • @tjweiler1 you mean tokin' black guy? that's a stereotype!

  • The National would be a kickass wedding band. Simple and effective video

  • There it is, 2:22.

  • one of my teacher suggested this band to me, he said the national is his fav band, but this band is nice. 4.9/5.0

  • @RaMbOwgINI that's very cool, don't think a teacher has ever recommended a band to me ever before

  • i love the idea of this being like maybe a 15 yr high school reunion, everyone in their thirties and life beginning to take a slow pace, very apropos to the song i think, lyrically and sonically

  • In Sweden apartment shut them

  • kaaaaaaaaaaaate oshea 4 eva and eva gurls

  • hi im kate... talk to ME

  • such a good video

  • They Sound like the Church

  • @Wehategod Thats it. I was trying to figure that out. The church thanks.

  • @Wehategod

Yeh ... with a bit of later Joy Division thrown in.

  • A good looking group of guys, Fantastic music, and great videos to match; What do you have to do to get recognized these days?

  • chmgdmyh

  • @audiotrax2000: its funny how you come here criticizing people for liking a ban as The National and a song as Apartment Story while the fuck load of happy comments come to bands that sound terribly flat, monotone and sincerely lyrics-less, I could listen to all your "good songs" play-list and if there where no pauses between them I would think they where the same song. Your just a lame tard that thinks that instruments make the music and if the music doesn't please you hears it shouldn't exist.

  • Big Brother

  • 2:41 is just pure ROFlmfaolol!

  • I'm getting tired, I'm forgeting why..

  • This song is amazing. Haven't listened to their other stuff yet though... bet it's as god as this song... THANKS GOOGLE SEARCH STORIES

Anyone have an idea who Little Miss Red Shoes is?

  • As good as this song... not as God as... lol sorry for the typo.

  • @Rollacoastalex ten bucks says its yo muttah

  • simple drumming i love it nd guitar too

  • C'mon guys, it's time to come in Italy!!!

  • Lyder som Weeping willows.Ret kedeligt

  • iT'S MUSIC, ABOUT REAL APARTMENTS?

  • I'm actually sort of inspired by the highly coherent discourse taking place on the "Comments" section of this video. It almost makes me ashamed to swoop in and promote my song, "Ezz-Rah, Moy-Izz-May," which you can view on my channel...

Whatever. Self-promotion is a necessary evil.

  • Actually what I should have said is you're right: "nobody that loves this music gives a shit though".

It sums up the mentality of the You Tube generation that doesn't know that all this bands song ideas are just warmed over Joy Division, including the visuals. You buy it because it's music that doesn't matter, and it suits you.

  • @audiotrax2000 I fucking hate Joy Division and I love the National.

What is music that doesn't matter?

If you like it, it matters, doesn't it?
