C6H12O6 + O2 --> CO2 + H2O (Glucose + Oxygen --> Carbon Dioxide + Water)

Then H... H12 becomes 6H2O

Now you have 18 O on the right and 6O in the Glucose so 6O2... doddle :)

Now when he got to C(2)H(4)(g)+O(2)(g)=CO(2)(g)+H­(2)O(l), I finally understood the concept that you are balancing out the EQUATION not the numbers. As a chemistry teacher, it's nice to see videos like this, but the methodology shown here is actually much more confusing than it needs to be. I'm glad there are so many positive comments from chemistry students below, but trust me, there are even easier ways to balance equations than shown above.

Why is it necessary to make 1.5 into a whole number. 1.5 is alright since oxygen is diatomic so you get the pair and .5 is just one atom of oxygen, which equals 3 atoms of oxygen. It seems perfectly OK to me to leave it a 1.5
