I've just watched this movie & like "Sicko," I must say that I agree with everything Moore says. Although 95% of the services offered here in the states is pretty much useless and aside the Food/Water/Shelter/Companion base, I do recommend a start at marketing yourself and not ever working as an employee. That's because I somewhat agree with you on that. (Still, lobbyists lobbying for a position is a 1st amendment right) About socialism, there are more characteristics than just govt ownership. And you ignore the original debate for these programs...many Americans didn't approve of these programs then either. We have federalism, not socialism. Socialism doesn't promote growth, religious freedom, or incentive for working harder. And some federal programs are needed, in my opinion.

The main problem with socialism is you run out of other peoples money and everyone looses there motivation to suceed. What if doctors and janitors got paid the same? Do you think those doctores would do a good job?
I would advocate a different type of socialism, where jobs would be rated on skill levels, and folks would be paid according to their skill level jobs.
For example, on a skill level of 1-5, with 5 being the highest, a doctor would have a 5 skill level. I would pay all jobs with 5 skill ratings, including doctors, around $80-$100K a year. A janitor would have a skill rating of 1. Janitors would be paid at least $20K a year.
But everyone would work. Nobody would be denied employment

I've just watched this movie & like "Sicko," I must say that I agree with everything Moore says. Pure capitalism equates to nothing but avaricious greed, empowering the tiny rich minority at the expense of the vast majority who'll never get a chance to share in the wealth as it'll always be controlled by the monopolies who's priority is nothing other than making themselves ever richer.

He is whinning over capitalism, but that is what has made him rich. I don't see him giving up one of his homes to offer to a family in need. I don't see him donating most of his royalty checks to help those in need unless it is a tax deduc. Celebrities like to "get involved" aka.get their face in the press, and then do nothing. I think you missed the point of the film here. It is not about charity, it is about fairness. When CEOs get million dollar bonuses even after their companies fail, and the average worker struggles to get by, then something is wrong. that is the point of this film. Michael Moore is a film-maker with a decent HUMAN conscience! His movies are HIS OWN OPINIONS & intended to stimulate DISCUSSION & hopefully ACTION. For those who strongly oppose it, get your own money together & film a response. If you saw the movie, youll see he advocates for a proper DEMOCRACY - you know, the so-called political system, guided by a constitution & system of rules thats supposed to allow us to live happily & with dignity. Informed, but not on history. America spends 2/3 of all its spending on FDR's temporary govt programs. Over 40% of what we spend every year, America borrows at interest. But no one should blame this on Obama. What he does in the next 2 years will determine that. Oh, but he is a socialist. If you read his book, you would quickly realize that. Also, again on history, if you researched the socialist movement in US, you will see all of his inner circle.

That's because I somewhat agree with you on that. (Still, lobbyists lobbying for a position is a 1st amendment right) About socialism, there are more characteristics than just govt ownership. And you ignore the original debate for these programs...many Americans didn't approve of these programs then either. We have federalism, not socialism. Socialism doesn't promote growth, religious freedom, or incentive for working harder. And some federal programs are needed, in my opinion.

Read 'Hegemony or Survival' by Noam Chomsky and you will find out how generous America has been with arms and money to support dictators such as Saddam Hussein, Noriega, Pinochet, Amin etc. Generous with a willingness to overthrow democratic governments such as that of Allende in Chile.
America pays far less per capita in aid than other western countries and the money comes with strings granting American corporations preferential treatment. Get your news from an objective source, not Disney.

I think Micheal Moore would be in favor of a socialistic government in the US. We are leaning ever so slighly towards socialism now, with our government now having partial control of General Motors.
My grandpa, when he was alive, supported socialism. He said the only problem with socialism is if you have the wrong folks in charge of a socialistic government, socialism could turn to communism in a hurry.
But socialism didn't work in the USSR. Still, I want to see this movie.

I would advocate a different type of socialism, where jobs would be rated on skill levels, and folks would be paid according to their skill level jobs.
For example, on a skill level of 1-5, with 5 being the highest, a doctor would have a 5 skill level. I would pay all jobs with 5 skill ratings, including doctors, around $80-$100K a year. A janitor would have a skill rating of 1. Janitors would be paid at least $20K a year.
But everyone would work. Nobody would be denied employment
