we are so lucky that Cass managed to squeeze so much into her short life and leave us such a wonderful legacy. Personally I think that had she lived she would have been one of the enduring stars of the music bizz and probably still performing today
Watching this makes me happy and inspired. I wish music was like this today. Johnny Cash and Cass Elliot were both very special people and will be remembered forever.
Mama Cass is one the FEW singers to really make me FEEL what they're singing. I'm only 27, and I realized what a good voice really is when I heard her the first time at age 12. One of the most beautiful and graceful voices ever to boom the music world. Love you Mama! :D
With a early death comes a great legacy because we knew her for what she accomplished.Who's to say her career would have lasted much longer..I think she took an exit at the height of her career, and because of that she is remembered..We love ya mama and thanks for leaving us your gift of beautiful song. <3
@1957thunderbird312 although it's true she died at the height of her career, there's no way we will know if that was the crest of the big wave that was, or the beginning of a tidal wave. She was very busy, respected & in demand not only for popular music talents but acting, co-hosting, guesting... in other words, things were really happening for her, & there's no way of telling where her journey may have gone. I agree with you we are so blessed to be left with all we have of Mama's shared gifts
@mythtree Well said..i am just finishing reading 'Dream a little Dream of me'..The life of 'Mama' Cass Elliot..written by Eddi Fiegel..well researched and very well written..i recommend it to her fans..my impression is that she was turning a corner in her personal and professional life..she was very intelligent as well as talented..i think she..and we..missed out on what would have been a brilliant future for her ,but, she did a lot in a short time...i love her voice ...one of a kind.
Cass Elliot sure had amazing foresight because what she declared about the country music industry here had eventually come true,It's just unfortunate she never did live to see it for herself.
She had a voice like runny honey, just divine, what a very sad early demise which robbed us of a singer with a heavenly voice. We were on holiday in Devon in the early 70s, and came home to the news that Cass had died. I was very very sad. What a smashing posting this is. Thanks a million, you have brightened my day!
@verbaud Johnny Cash did his variety show on his own terms only, and not ABC's!He also was adamant that it be filmed in Nashville and not New York or L.A.
I think this may be Cass' finest performance. Her interpretation of Softly and Tenderly isn't complex but it highlights the purity of her voice. She is in great voice, confident and looks beautifully radiant having just lost 100 lbs. Her smile as she belts "Oh Please Release Me" just blows me away.
What fun they were having no competition just loving music and respect for each other very rare when two such as these get together these days.

Mama Cass could have just as easily made the transition to country music if she had been given the opportunity to record a country album.
