  • i'm going through the hiring process to become a detention officer. i was terminated from a past employer years ago because there was money missing from the cash drawer which i was in charge of. i wasn't the only person with a key to the drawer but the blame came back to me since i was responsible for the cash, i didn't take it. i had never had any problems with that employer in the past regarding punctuality, missing days from work, conflicts with other employess, etc. what do you suggest?

  • @milobarron I’m in the process of putting taping a video for just this type of situation. Terminations and resignations can be detriment to job applicants, or, it can be a tool used to impress the hiring panel. Laser pointed, seamless presentation of a termination is absolutely critical and crucial in the hiring arena. That video will be added to the Member’s Room of EarnYourBadge no later than the end of March. Great question!

  • Hello Chief Russ, I have a quick question. I'm still several years from applying, however.

Suppose I have read some info on the polygraph process that states that the polygraph is not as reliable as the claims given for it are. I understand that one of the first questions given is "do you have any knowledge of the polygraph?" I don't want to lie. How should I respond? Especially since I believe that polygraph actually tests agitation instead of truth.

  • Hey chief, what does the polygraph suppose to show? Honesty?

  • @benjyy121 I am not Chief Russ, I'm no cop. But it seems (from everything I've read on the internet) that the polygraph finds points of agitation (which could be due to ANYTHING, anger, lies, nervousness, irritation, bad memories, emotional response, etc.), and then it is up to polygrapher to question you further in an attempt to get you to confess to something (anything really, they don't know what you will confess to beforehand). At least that is my view so far, take it with a grain of salt..

  • @MistaCapsaicin Thanks, God bless

  • Chief Russ I am currently in the polygraph stage for a county police agency. I have applied several times to police agencies only to be turned away at this point. I have a B.S.A.S. in Criminal Justice and I am a Captain in Security Forces in the Air Force Reserves. Any help or information you could give me would be greatly appreciated. My dream is to work in law enforcement.

  • This is especially why I advocate not only the assassination of cops, but also the assassination of police chiefs - that's where the CORRUPTION RESIDES. Anyone who takes the word of a polygraph is a CRIMINAL and a LIAR. They have NO interest of getting to the bottom of a crime, they only care about putting warm bodies behind bars (no matter how innocent they are). KILL COPS! KILL POLICE CHIEFS!

  • Chief Russ, So are you saying after the Yes and No section if the poligrapher, says something like what you stated about any quetion. How should I respond?

  • Does the person giving the polygraph test expect you to elaborate on things or is it best to just give yes/no answers?

  • Chief Russ,

Have you added a “Pass Your Polygraph” service to Earn your badge. I am interested in viewing this service. thank you

  • , I would love to see your PYP video,

  • Chief Russ Ehlers, I am currently in the selection process in becoming a police officer, and I have a polygraph coming up, I would love to see your PYP video, as this is the stage that really has me most nervous, I had to take a psychology course as a requirement for the police force and we dealt with the polygraph a little in that course, even in there it says that your body can give off the same physiological responses if you are nervous, scared as you would if you were lying, is that true?

  • @parsonsphil Yes, physical nervousness can materialize as physiological response. I responded with a personal note in your YouTube message area.

    Yours,

    Chief Russ

  • @EarnYourBadge can you forward me this info as well?

  • Hey, I am taking a polygraph examination for a police agency in long island, ny. Can you give me some advice?

  • @xeoblitzxp Advice, yes. Don't spill your guts!

  • @EarnYourBadge On an application I admitted to soliciting a prostitute eventhough I never got caught and my record's clean; did I fuck myself? will they flag me from being hired statewide?

  • @WildWhiteDignity nah u didnt fuck urself bro. u fucked the prostitute.

  • @xeoblitzxp

How did your polygraph exam go?

  • Can I used this in canada?

  • @dhavenzo184 There are a number of Canadian EYB Members. I've received great feedback from a number of them. You sure can.

    Yours,

    Chief Russ

  • @dhavenzo184 Yes, in fact EYB is effective in Canada, Europe, Australia and several other English speaking nations.

  • I want to thank you for your videos. I am going to my physical agility testing next month and then the boards after that for Indiana state capital police. I know i will blow the agility test out of the water, but I'm nervous about the board questions. I deal with hundreds of people every day, so i don't know why I am so worked up over talking to 3 to 5 people. Well I want to say thank you again for posting these videos, they are helping!!!

  • They asked if you've ever lied, or cheated on an exam, and I laughed because they asked if I had sex with animals(of course not!). Domestic abuse, or if I've ever hit anyone. Traffic violations. No fisher questions on mine. But each department may be different. Reguardless, I was happy to be getting it done and over with!

  • Well, the CVSA wasn't as bad as I thought. I went in there knowing what I was going to say, and what not to say(unless they specifically asked, and they didn't.). We went over the questions before the actual test. Anything I thought that I should share, I did so before the test. The question review took about 30 minutes. Then he took about 30% of the questions and asked them during the CVSA. We did it twice. I passed :) But each department may do it differently.

  • I have my CVSA next week. They're all saying its nothing to worry about, and that no one has failed from it. But then I've heard from others that some have failed it. The detective informed me that it will take a couple of hours. What takes place during those 2 hours? How many questions do they ask me? And do they always throw a fisher question at the end? Help!

  • @way2quik4u This technology allegedly works with something called a micro tremor. Believed to be present in a person voice when stressed. The basic premise of the CVSA is intimidation and it’s the interview that you must prepare for. You should go into the test knowing that you’re not going to be fooled into spilling your guts. You should expect some of the same questions you’d get in a polygraph interview and they may or may not use a “fisher”, some do, some don’t. Let us know how it went.

  • i have a question. i was overseas about 3 years ago and was working out and lifting weights heavily. one of the trainers gave me some pills that i used for about 10 days. He said that there was a possibility that it would lower my sperm count. i honestly dont know if it was steroids or not. i'm doing my application for the police department now and am a little scared that it will disqualfy me. do you think it will?

  • @mrcoolcharles

It may depend upon how you disclose. If you say, “I took some pills that some dude gave me and didn’t know what they were" shows very poor judgment. If you say, “I took steroids for about a week, some years ago. It was foolish and I stopped using them. I’m proud of being drug free and would never consider using steroids or any other substance again.” That’s a bit more palatable and my guess is, you’ll be fine.

  • Very much interested. I actually aced my oral board I was actually told that I was the best all day by three of the panel member. Thanks do much.

  • When you say "tagged as a prostitute," does that mean that other agencies know know about this? Do different agencies share information from a polygraph?

  • @trplmm3 “Tagged” was my way of saying he was labeled by that agency, or, by the polygrapher as a prostitute. Agencies are not to share polygraph information unless the applicant has signed a waiver of full release. The unfortunate truth is, many polygraph examiners do share confidential information, and shame on them. Continue....

  • @EarnYourBadge . In fact, the polygraph examiner in this example shared this story with me, and he should not have. This is one of the reasons the polygraph is potentially, so damaging. Knowing what to say and what not to say during the polygraph is just as important as what to say and not say during your oral interview.

  • @thaking51 You pose a very good question, does it relate to enforcing the law? Allow me to pose this question as well. What is “unusual” activity? Unusual is defined as out of the ordinary or, extraordinary. Unless one compares notes with others in an effort to determine if their sexual activity is “unusual” who is to say that it is? Some might suggest that unless your activity is illegal, it’s nobody’s business but your own, and certainly not the business of the polygrapher.

  • You all have great questions and legitimate concerns. I am nearly finished with the Polygraph product and it will be made available in the Member’s Room of EYB. I will also post a video here, sharing a bit more information about polygraph, the art of polygraphy and the mystery behind why good people “fail” the polygraph.

  • my question is what if for example you use to drink years ago but have been sober for two years. but wen asked do you drink you say no but u feel guilty because of your past. will this trigger the needle??

  • @redshirtready Nearly ANYTHING can cause a physiological response and when innocent thoughts do, this often gives a false positive. That's why good people can receive a "fail" on their polygraph. For that reason, I'm producing a very comprehensive "Pass Your Polygraph" product for inclusion to the Member's Room of EYB. So, in direct answer, yes, absolutely!

  • I have been working extremely hard over the last 6 years to prepare my self for applying to become a Sheriff Deputy in my county. One of the biggest fears I have is the polygraph because about 5 years ago when I applied to be a correctional officer, I passed every step in the hiring process and then flunked my polygraph. I did not lie on my polygraph test however I was extremely nervous because I knew the position was a career changing position for me at the time. Please help me pass!!

  • Having mine tommorow....shit myself lol

  • Great tips and video! I have my interview in less than 3 weeks so I am gaining all the information I can. I would love to see your pass the polygraph video!

  • @weathersbee11 There is a host of information online regarding the interview process, some accurate, most is speculation. Make sure you're getting it from the right source and good luck at your interview!
