  • I am from Canton, GA and it was always a treat to go and see him!! My parents would take us on an afternoon trip. He was a good soul!!! And he loved his goats!! Great memories!! thanks for posting!!

  • @187bertie

This video will be used in a GPB segment on the Goat Man. It is scheduled to be broadcast on Friday, 6 July between 8:50 and 9pm.

  • @robert8mm Thank you so much for letting me know about the GPB broadcast. I've already posted this info to my facebook page and have written the day and time down. It will bring back a lot of memories for so many people. Thank you again!!!

  • THANK YOU! The appearance of the Goat Man was a big event in my youth...would love to have film of him.

  • i remeber seeing him in macon ga. never bothered anybody.if more people like him the world would be a better place

  • I can still remember seeing him along Tobacco Road and Hwy. #1 in Augusta, Georgia. He is one of my more favorite childhood memories. RIP, Goatman.

  • He was a unigue and special person!

  • This guy has issues!

  • I saw him on several times back in the 60's. I saw him a lot between Newnan and Griffin, GA. Everyone knew when he was coming and go out and see him. It was a site to see! Now, if a man with a wagon being pulled by goats and preaching The Word came around, he would be locked up and institutionalized!

  • Only old time Georgians remember the goat man, now. I saw him once in Perry, Georgia probably in the mid-50's. I was very young then. But I have heard about him all my life.

  • I saw the Goat Man once when I was about 5 or 6-years-old in the mid/late-1960's. He had parked for the night at a fork in the road along the old U.S. 278 as it ran through Dallas, Georgia. We stopped and my dad got out of the car and walked over to his wagon and talked to him a few minutes while we sat in the car.

I may have seen him one other time in Rockmart, Georgia but I can't be positive about it. I was really small at the time.

  • I saw him many times and man did he smell bad but he was nice to us kids

  • I love the story about the Goat Man. 5 star awesome ! --:)Rod

  • Great that you posted this! I remember the excitement of hearing the goatman was headed our way! He was a sight to behold! Pots and pans and paraphanelia all hanging from his wagon, and goats everywhere! It was an amazing parade!

    THanks a lot! ~NAncy

  • ...because of you, Nancy, I now know about the 'Goat Man' - thank you for that.

And thanks to Robert for this historical clip.

  • It was such an event when he came through Bowdon in the 1950's. I always think of the Goat Man when I see goat cheese on a menu. The smell of that cheese takes me back to that exerience of going to town to see the nomadic Goat Man and his followers. Now I am looking for the book about him. Thanks

  • Thank you, Robert for bringing back memories of my own childhood. My mother almost bought me a baby goat from Ches back around 1963-64. We traveled between Smyrna, Ga & Gadsden, AL often and would see him along the route.

  • I saw a video of the Goat Man when he was in Georgia on a home movie my Grandmother had made.

  • Absolute marvelous video. I had heard about the Goat Man years ago, I wish I could have met him in Person. He lived such an adventurous life but yet so simple. It amazes me that people were so cruel to have mugged and beat him and to have killed his goats, I hope he is still traveling in the next life with his goats. I also hope the people that were so mean are up to their necks in goat poop.

  • great job Robert. I have a huge pencil sketch of him. he sure was a dandy individual

  • the simple life somewhat appealing eh?

  • I've seen the Goat Man several times, on trips to Fla. with my parents as a kid. I've seen many pictures of him but never a movie. Thank you so much for this!
