cool!,i do some polyclay stuff...i live in b.f.e. ,Arkansas, and the nearest Hobbylobby is 78 miles!-i liked this vid and others...i cant find all the colored fimo stuff at wallyworld at all anymore,i use s.s./fimo,but i,m watching your vids ,and looking at your stuff you use,and the tips you give my thing is full scale fx, and when i started 1/6 th ,i found new challanges, thanks for the posts, and extra credits for the Misfits tune !
also thanks chuck, this is very helpful, I'm trying to make a skull and couldn't figure out how to execute the process. I'll make a video of the final product and give credit to you. :)
Make your own tools! I've used Knitting needles, Sewing needles attached to wooden handles,Bobby pins, kitchen knives, wire twisted together for a loop tool, paintbrushes, paper clips, dental floss, tooth picks, a piece of hard wood that was sanded down to a clay pusher. You probably have several tools around the house. I've purchased several tools over the years and found out I only use 1/4 of them all the time. Some I haven't used in years.
wahhh thats badass!!!! now how do ya connect it to a body? XD btw, what was put on it at the end? glaze? also, i hear ppl use paintbrushes to smoothen the surface texture, do ya dip the paintbrush in water? srry for soo many ?s im juss starting out :P
Thanks! This head will be molded and cast into a fridge magnet. If I was to attach it to a body I would make the wire at the end a lot longer before I sculpted the piece. Longer wire makes it easier to attach to an armature. I use a brush to apply the Sculpey smoothing agent. Glad you enjoyed the vid.
oh duh, hahahaha i feel really retarded now XD i was assuming it was a more technical term used in sculpting XD i guess when i hear "cast INTO a fridge magnet" i thought it was more like cast IN TO a fridge magnet, like it was some kinda fancy fridge you put the cast into to let it cool down or something XD i dunno, made sense to me, but now that i hear myself again, im retarded sounding XD heheheh
Probably a dumb question, but: how do you bake it without flattening it or ending up with a temperature variation with a metal understructure that can discolor or crack? (assuming this is bake rather than water or air harden stuff) And, if you do leave it on the frame, how do you get it off the frame cleanly?
I use a narrow pair of vice grips to keep it in an upright position when I am holding it. you can also position the grips to hold the piece when you set it down. I leave the finished piece on the armature. never tried to take if off the armature. I like to make small sculptures to mold and make plastic castings of the original. This way they last forever without cracking.
I use a smoothing agent made by sculpey. you can generally find it near the sculpey at your local art store. You can actually see the small bottle with a little red cap in the back.I'm glad you liked it.
what music is this? like it alot :)
