this is a great song, but it comes across as a bit bland in this rendition, mainly because it's too slow and there isn't a great contrast in dynamics.....
@Bapspal It might be a bit slow for the chorus arrangement but if you see the original sang by Albert Hammond (the author) himself, this is the right pace..I really like this one!
I kinda feel that way too. But it's interesting: program music/pieces with trains as the subject tend to have that problem of do we paint the picture of a fast train or a slower train? Whitacre's "Ghost Train" comes to mind. There's another youtube vid of this piece taken quite fast ... a little faster than some of the music can support, IMO. This group has good blend and tone, all said and done. =)
I've recently sung this arrangement and this just feels to straight and well placed. Their voices are really really good but this song needs to be energetic and fun!!
Oh god... Just... No... Brilliant voices... But didn't get it anywhere near up to par stylistically. Their voice are... Too polished? They lose the whole sense of fun in this piece of music. That's what this piece is about. But, to me, it sounds like they actually believe they are trains...
the fact that they actually pulled it off without girls is so amazing! i'm a girl and i'm in a choral grouop singing this song, and everytime we sing it, the sopranos go flat and crap, they really do suck, personally altos are soooo much better:D
You can't be serious. This is actually extremely slow for this song. You should listen to other versions. They are WAY faster and they sound a whole lot better too. Not saying that this choir is bad, but other choirs have made this song sounds really really cool and this is just sort of plain.
