It wouldn't work for me either, until I used the MORE patch found on the first page of SMW Central's addmusic help thread. Unfortunately, that's exactly what caused my music problem. I wouldn't use it if you plan to use Mario ExGFX.

And, I'll set up a SMB1 ExGFX pack for you.
