  • ahahaha if every sg player got his skills sure got chance qualify for world cup... but now like no hope one zzzzzzz.

  • fandi ahmad! singapore!

  • GRONINGEN!!!

  • great techniques, intelligent & strong vision but sadly didnt to rise it to the top level :(

certaintly the best ever player in the south east Asia..

  • OMG!! Fandi wore a number 7 jersey..7 is legendary..

  • Fandi Ahmad is the pride of Singapore football!

  • Hope to find own very own player like him again...

  • return match: inter-groningen 5-1

  • fandi left cause his an indonesian club offered him 20 times more . money talks. if not for money, he could have been a star in europe

  • MERDE !!!

  • when the commentator shout Fandi Ahmad, i got tears in my eyes!

  • What a lot of people forget is that BEFORE he went to Groningen, he was one of 3 players selected by Ajax Amsterdam after trials (the others - Jan Molby and if I am not mistaken Marco Van Basten). He decided not to stay on the advice of his uncle and went to play in Indonesia instead!!! Not even Johann Cryuff' speaking to him and telling him he would stay with a Dutch Indonesian family, and Ajax would take care of everything could change his mind. This is I believe Fandi's biggest regret!

  • inilah pertandingan orang asia pertama mencetak gol di gawang Inter Milan

  • FANDI AHMAD !!!!!!!!!

  • Groningen niet meer goed, oke ze zijn slechter als toen maar ze staan nu keurig 3e hoor met geluk worden ze dit jaar 2e.. en dan spelen ze voorbereiding champioens league. Ja ik ben altijd positief!

  • i am a malaysian fan and im impressed with fandi performance to play with european club but why asean people could not stand to stay in europe??did they miss their hometown??for example fandi himself just stay for 2 season and then went back to asean....malaysian legend, mokhtar dahari received offer from arsenal and barcelona but he refuse to go...i think if both of them go and stay in europe, maybe asean football could be better nowaday!!maybe play in the world cup..hehe

  • @camounes Its a combination of bad advice, immaturity, lack of passion, attitude and drive and settling for less. Fandi couldnn't handle the cold? How many African players come from much hotter countries? Sundram couldn't settle in Zurich if I recall. Its much easier being the bigh fish in a small pond. Why be an average player in Europe when you can be the best in South East Asia (not even in Asia)? SEA players need to change their attitude - you have to sacrifice for your dream.

  • @singwolf hey dude i think you're forgetting something very important here. You're talking about the 80s here. this during a time where the internet was not even in existence. Fandi grew up in the 'kampung' singapore era. Without the internet and the effects of globalization, people hardly knew anything about what lay beyond their shores. Back then, europe was very very foreign to people in the 'far east' especially in south east asia.

  • @jorrd dude, I am the same age as Fandi! Yes the Internet has made the world a lot smaller, but we were not that "ulu" or "sua-ku" back then. The fact that he went to Holland for trials means it was something that he wanted. Ajax said that they would house him with an Indon Muslim family (lots there), feed him and school him. All he had to do was play football (and learn). He got very bad advice from his uncle cause the Indons were dangling big money for his signature. Thats why he didn't stay!

  • @singwolf the shock of experiencing such a different culture must have been far greater than what you would expect now. being one of the very few or even sole import from SEA, one can only imagine how difficult it would have been to adapt to such drastic changes in terms of climate, culture, food and basically every thing. I think that fandi deserves our utmost respect even for getting this far. sure it was an excellent opportunity missed.

  • However, considering the circumstances, we have to sympathize and realize that adapting to such a jarring change of environment must have been pretty traumatic.

  • Wat voor Europacup is dit? Europacup II zeker?

  • @Jano939 Cup-Winners' Cup

  • Groningen owned inter, allways!

  • Trots van het noorden !

  • FC Groningen is beter dan Internazionale!

  • hehe NICE! :D groningen altijd

  • Wat Fc Twente kan, kan Fc Groningen ZEKER

  • fandi was just in the right place at right time. There was no glimpse of his talent.. he didnt even make any good runs. Anyone at there in that point of time could have scored too.

  • @TToTToTT are you crazy? He was up against WALTER ZENGA? do you have any idea who that is? Zenga saves penalties while asleep! Great Goal Fandi!

  • Great save by Zenga on penalty kick !

  • @uberalles90 How many penalties he saved during 1990's world cup semifinal Italy-Argentina ? :D

  • @ILSignorAntonio I talked about this match

  • FC GRONINGEN FC GRONINGEN THE BEST!!!!!

  • FC GRONINGEN THE BEST:D

  • Fandi Ahmad! best buy must buy!!

    TET TET TET TETTTTTTTTT

    FANDI!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Blackhonda666 lu kekek ar bro! the best comment ever!!

  • To the rest of the world: this video contains the ONLY goal scored by a Singaporean in a continental European competition. It is very possibly the greatest moment ever in our tiny nation's football history. (Look us up in Google Earth and see just how small our country is.) The clip may mean nothing to you, but it means everything to us. We may never reach such heights ever again, but nothing can take that moment away from us. Hopefully, this video remains on YouTube forever.

  • @anthtan "We may never reach such heights ever again, but nothing can take that moment away from us." Come on, try to be a little more positive?

  • @anthtan I really hope we can have more players going to Europe to ply their trade :)

  • @anthtan even better coz I'm an AC Milan fan as well. Ha ha ha.

  • Comment removed

  • @rastAsia Thank you! I more than like it! All Fandi fans, go and watch it!

  • zo mooi omte zien ze winnen nooit meer van inter en atlectico

    Atletico winaar europacup

    Inter mischien winaar Champions leuge

  • When will another Singaporean follow Fandi's footstep....Groningen is a good team..

  • @PunaiCat hopefully hariss... but NS is coming for him... we hanafi akhbar impressed tottenham hotspur head coach in recent friendly against them. we got fandi ahmad kids who impressed europe big guns. we never know. and this players are guaranteed to represent singapore, unlike our neighbouring countries' wonderkids.

  • @fadinho89 Hariss sucks....he didnt impressed in China..

  • @ChronicKnight who says? their fans were even saying. shanghai wants to sign him and loan to athletico madrid. but being realistic, its bullshit.

doesnt he didnt sign with the team doesnt he didnt impressed. obviously its hard for them to communicate. even wilhelmsson, the swede that was on trial found it hard to communicate with them.

  • the famous goal that put Singapore on the european soccer map

  • Singapore shud build a statue for him!

  • he's fandi and he's here to score the captain in 94... damn those were the days... shldnt fandi get like a hall of fame awar in Singapore or something like tt....

  • Fandi,You are a miracle!

  • ok, but in the back match Inter won 5-1!!

  • Nou Jeroen, FC Groningen uit: altijd lastig. Onderschatting, guur weer, fanatieke supporters, vechtersmentaliteit.

  • @hzijlstra verwend?

  • kop koffie

  • this is where FM comes alive! first singaporean to do it in Europe! FANDI!!~

  • FANDI AHMAD!!! Singapore's WonderBOY!~

  • actually yea you know its hard to adapt. i mean got language difference. even if no language difference like if he moved to england the weather will be a problem. i mean 10'C is hot to them while here 28'C actually quite cold already leh. but the real singaporeans dont really get a chance. also, the salary of footballers here is not that high. when they retire, they will have no source of income. and footballers gernerally receive little education. what job can they find?

  • Egmar, Mirko, blah blah blah...

Despite the influx of "unnatural" Singaporeans in the Singapore national football team, it is without a doubt that the best talent (and loyal at that) Singapore has ever seen is still our very own borned flesh & blood.

Fandi, thank you for igniting us with flashes of your talent, even in a foreign soil like the Netherlands. While you might regret not joining Ajax then, but you have already done so much that make us being deeply proud of you.

  • Fandi Ahmad Hebat!!!

  • fradi ahmad the best

  • fandi ahmad, no one like him in Singapore. So many 'heir apparent', but all fail to live up to expectations

  • We need to move on ... he is a true legend, but there is no point trying to emulate him - there will only be one Fandi. We have talent, we will find it, and we will have new Singapore Idols to support.

Fandi Ahmad - the ONLY Singapore Idol (sorry, Taufik and Hady).

  • icedwater, we will have a new Singapore Idol, Sylvia something and Suzeihri YEAHH! (Who cares anyways). True, there is only one Fandi. However, some new talents like Hariss Harun seems to be genuinely good players, the way he marshal the midfield is something I have not seen for a long time. Too bad, the rest of the team has not matured as he already does, but we'll see, even Malaysia has gone through a rough patch and now has won the SEAGames.Hope to hear the Kallang Roar again, nothing like it

  • Fandi Ahmad! The best player in South East Asian football history.

  • He is still my hero! I was 12 back then, remembered staying up till 4am watching that game on TV, but it was worth it! FANDI is the pride of the EAST... :)

  • fandi ahmad!!!!

  • sow nooit geweten dat Groningen toen zo'n goed team had

  • fandi king.

  • wow.. how many singaporeans can say they scored against Inter Milan..

  • not only that, he will be the ONLY Singaporean ever to SCORED against a Tier 1 European team (Inter Milan)!

  • @NotOriousboi

If you play fifa 2010 maybe you can say you scored against inter milan.. haha

  • @NotOriousboi - only in PS3 bro :)

  • retorun match inter 5 - groningen 1

the german player of inter was hansi muller and not dieter muller.

    bye

  • he shld have joined Ajax when he had the chance TWICE!!!!

  • can somebody please transalate what the commentator was saying..and if there's any groningen fans of the 80s, i would like to know how good fandi was..cos he's still the best in s'pore..

  • The commentator is basically describing what was happening and that was clearly Groningen being the best team. Fandi was a talent by then but had problems with the cold climate. He threw hot tea over his feet to keep them warm. The media called him a raw diamond but unfortunately he did not manage to polish it to a top level. After a short period (2 seasons?) he left Groningen with unknown destination. Homesick and not able to deal with it physically? Can somebody ask him personally?

  • thank you for posting this clip.

Fandi is a legend in Singapore football. If i am not wrong, in an interview after his retirement in football, his biggest regret is not to continue to play in Europe.

Anyway his 2 eldest children (aged 10 n 8)attended valencia n ac milan youth camp last yr and they impressed the coaches there. Hopefully, they could follow in the footsteps of their father :)

  • he went to malaysian team FC Kuala Lumpur after he left Groningen.. helped the team win three malaysian cups in just a matter of four seasons before he left to Greece..

  • In addition, Fandi is now considered as one of the best football coach in South East Asia.

  • @hzijlstra - if i'm not wrong...@ that point of time he needed to serve our mandatory 2 yrs of National Service in singapore thats why he only had like a pretty short stint with fc groningen...not that he was not able to deal with it physically....

  • @hzijlstra He got offered a contract by Ajax, but he didn't think he'd be able to adapt, so went home.

  • @hzijlstra Fandi Ahmad now has an academy for youngsters that goes on before my sunday games over at Safra Tampines, a sports hub. Just took a picture with him a week ago. Next time i see him, i'll ask

  • he went t

o crete a greek team then played for kuala lumpur.

  • But the return match result was Inter-Groningen 5-1 and was played in Bari town. I remember it very well . Aldo Serena scores two goals. Collovati,Altobelli and Hansi Muller the others

  • Fandi! whoo! i saw him at simpang bedok juz now. . still the best singapore player ever. .

  • fandi true legend

  • fandi ahmad !!! pride of the East !!!!!!!

  • FANDI AHMAD~!!!

  • fandi!!!

groningen fans, how was fandi back then to you guys?

  • FANDI AHHHHMAD!!!!

  • first time i heard the name fandi ahmad so slang... sumore number 7 seh...

  • FANDI AHMAD!!!

  • Dit is waar Fc groningen zich onderscheidt van heerenveen.Een prachtige historie waar heerenveen niet eens bij in de buurt komt.

  • Hebben jullie toch nog iets, he?

  • dat waren nog eens tijden

  • mooie tijden man was nog jong

  • FANDI!!!>....is still da BEST player in SINGAPORE !!!>.....if only he had signed the contract with FC GRONIGEN....he would haff brought Singapore football to anoder level...but he was young @ dat time...n he's homesick...but all in all..HE SCORED AGAINST THE LEGENDARY GREAT CUSTODIAN WALTER ZENGA!!...and that's a GREAT ACHIEVEMENT....

  • yeah, either that or sign with the greek team, then scouts would have been sent to our country to scout for football... now the best thing that happened to SEA football is thailand thanks to peter reid and his european connections.

  • Fandi Ahmad!!!!my favourite player...

  • 02-11-1983

    Inter- Groningen 5- 1

    53' Collovati, 55' Altobelli, 61' Serena, 63' McDonald, 78' Muller, 89' Serena :)

  • Woa, bedankt voor het uploaden :D Geweldig dit, maar weet iemand ook hoe het voor groningen is afgelopen in de europacup competitie? Of was dit de finale?
