  • Ringo Rocks!

  • How did you get these watery cube lights? COMPIZ NOOB : (

  • @605Helena Then I guess you're posting in the wrong video.

    Or maybe you're a troll.

  • @kffeine

    f u

  • Those highest rated comments sure are irrelevant.

It would be nice if these were available as regular screensavers too, interfacing with Compiz to work, so that they can work alongside the "normal" screensaver system in Gnome. Or is this what they do?

  • i cant get it to install on my system, im running ubuntu 10.04, is there a sudo apt-get line that i can use in terminal to get this cause the sites that i have seen where using git and creating folders is just not working on my system, following the step by step instructions and it wont do it. thanks

  • htt p:// tombu ntu .com/index .php/2008/07/31/i nstall-th ree -e xperiment al-compiz-plugi ns/

go here to learn how to install the screensaver plugin.

make sure you also install git using the command sudo apt-get install git-core

  • @iluvme4never just remove the spaces

  • Comment removed

  • where you get that plugin from

  • Linux power man! xD

  • song name please :D

  • Octopussy´s Garden ?!?!?!?

  • @nelofsg thanks for you help :)

  • where can i get this?

  • Vistas to shitty. This is Linux. It's free just boot Linux on your comp instead.

  • can someone tell me how to install flying windows screen saver.i,'v got ubuntu 9.04 ....

  • why don't you ask in a ubuntu forum ?

there is a plenty of computer geeks ready to help you ;)

  • We are searching for a developer.

  • I just love this. I gotta get it again.

  • sploopidy, i agree also :)

the cube is useful because i hate when people look over my shoulder it pisses me off

and on top of that, all the people that say ubuntu is bad STFU and give it a try/

there are alternatives to anything you need.

  • I totally know what you mean. I've tried converting my mom, my grandpa, lots of people...but even when it is said to them that they can use the Live CD before they install it, they're still afraid of it!...It's they're loss, I guess. Someday they'll need it.

Plus, yeah, the cube IS very useful for privacy...in a really awesome way! :D

  • lol u tried converting your grandpa to linux... i dont even think my grandpa knows what an os is. just knows how to play solitare.

  • In which case Ubuntu would be great for him. Take a moment to set it up for him and he'll NEVER be able to damage it in any way.

My grandmother (78) uses Ubuntu 8.10 and my mum (52) uses openSuSE with a config that I set up for her.

When either of them have trouble I remote desktop into their machines and help, but that's only when they need a program they don't have yet.

Windows is too easy to break for newbie users.

  • Compiz looks great, but ultimately, it's useless. I mean, really, how often would you use a rotating cube instead of a simple & fast keyboard shortcut?

  • Well, it's not too useless. It's quite useful, also. By the way, you can use a keyboard shortcut to switch to different workspaces.

  • That's exactly why it's useless. Who would want to rotate a damn cube with the mouse, rather then use a quick keyboard shortcut?

  • but...but...it's perdy! And it's useful if you are browsing the interwebs and don't want anyone seeing what you're doing and someone walks over your shoulder.

  • Well, a matter of taste I guess. I like my fedora clean and fast, and prefer keyboard shortcuts to mouse control.

I also have vista on my computer at work, and it sucks. Windows XP is a decent OS, but vista simply sucks. I turned off aero and themes in order to get it to work half as fast as my Fedora would, even though the PC on which vista is running is much better.

  • Oh, Fedora? I think that I tried it once. I never actually installed it, though.

And I agree with you about how Vista is terrible...hopefully (but not likely) Windoze 7 (not a typo) will be better.

  • I use it quite often....

  • Use what quite often...? Fedora? Compiz? Vista? Aero?

  • The compiz cube

  • Well, if you find it useful, enjoy yourself, by all means. I personally prefer keyboard shortcuts.

  • haha thecleanpig your such a fucking noob/.

the only thing good about vista is the aero.

and any windows programs that u need theres GOING TO be A ALTERNATIVE>

so stfu if you dont know what your talking about\

  • why in the hell do you think I called vista a piece of shit?

and yes, DUH I know about open source moron!

  • I totally agree with you. There's a free alternative to almost everything, and those alternatives are better. People are just blind and don't see them.

  • i cant find screen saver :( wth how do i get the cube to spin as my screen saver

  • Compiz is for showing off your pc and shit lol

  • if compiz is for showing off, vista is for shitting on peoples faces. give it more hardware resources to suck up, the more it shits at users.

  • all this is great ! but i personally dont find compiz something that u use regularly... personally, i dont ..

  • where do i turn this on? please reply..

i mean the flying windows, i have compiz fusion and ubuntu 9.04

  • meh i think that u have to download this plugin from google or something and install it your self.

  • what software did you use to record this screen capture?

  • i think it isn't any software ) it's video cam )

  • it's recordmydesktop.

  • yeah, dont think its a screencast because there clearly a "monitor-on" light at the bottom right of the screen =)

  • Great song!

  • What's the code for upgrading Compiz Fusion in Ubuntu 8.10? I want the Flying Windows one. ;_;

  • i need your help. the flying windows one is rendering the cube in the background too, how do i fix this?

  • what's the title of the song?

    tnx

  • octopus's garden - The beatles great song =)

  • Thank you... i loved it

  • Oh heck yes!

  • how do you get the aquarium plugin

  • Install compiz, if you have it than update and it should be in compiz settings.

  • Linux allows you to run the latest cutting edge software, where you need to use old windows versions because the newer ones are too slow.. That's the main reason I use Linux.

The fishes are kind of useless though :P

  • can i get that leaf skydome? or whatever the skydome is?

  • where do i get these?

  • I've recently started using linux and I must say...

    LINUX ROCKS!!!

  • same here

    cant even touch windows anymore

    all mac and linux

  • i know lol once my linux boot failed and i had to go back to windows and im like... wtf... lol

  • the are no plagins. This is just linux's world.

just download it. it is for free and better than windows.

  • i dont have a screen saver plugin option

do i need to download it?

    srry for noob comment

  • This is just linux's world

  • I love compiz :D

    too bad i'm diehard-fluxbox user :)

    nice fishes :D

  • Ho do i install the plugins

  • dude...does this screensavers plugins conflicts with ubuntu intrepid distro.....???? i've compiled this plugins and it works....but it wont run..help !!!

  • I like cheez and wine!!!!!1

  • somebody seems to be lost...

    by the way linux rules

    thanks for the video

  • Linux rules, Compiz fusion rules, all open source rules, and god damn, this music rules.

  • Yep. And does anyone know the name of that song? :) Thanks in advance.

PS: Vista's effects suck REALLY hard compared to this here...

  • "Octopus's Garden" By the Beatles

  • Thank you :):):)

  • This song rocks :D.

And the cube with the reflection is awesome !

Could you please share the wallpaper and the skydome ? :D

By the way, I don't have a "Screensaver" plugin... How can I have it ?

  • can someone tell me how to get this without having to download and install compiz again, if possible? i am running ubuntu 8.10

  • ok why is there a shark tank in the middle of the 4 desktops? lol

  • the flying windows one is really cool. Does anyone know of a way to get it for windows?

(im not slating Linux, its just personally i need windows for many things, i also have Linux Ubuntu though)

  • Since it runs on top of Xorg, the linux interface, it won't work on windows (xorg doesn't work on windows perfectly if it even works, and doesn't have the stuff compiz needs). So, only works on linux for now. Sorry.

  • yeh i figured that. I was just wondering if there was another version out there for windows. As its a pretty cool idea. Perhaps a more useful version of this idea could be implemented as an interface design in the future. But for now as a screensaver its pretty fantastic.

  • also, Windows doesn't provide OpenGL for the desktop

  • use , VirtualBox or another Virtualisation software to run linux and windows on one box

  • i know but im not gonna start up linux just so the screensaver will come on lol.

I might try it out though with Virtual PC to see if it works. I'll need to use it anyway for Windows XP as 3ds max 9 doesn't like vista at all lol.

  • @RenegadeMaster07 Long time coming, but you can run Windows in a VM if you need some stuff for Windows so bad. Or, you can use Windows as the primary OS and run Linux over it in a VM. Then, make an SSH connection between your VM and WIndows and you can both enjoy Windows and Compiz Fusion in Linux.

Awesome what can be done these days.

  • got compiz now, how do I install the screensaver from ubuntu 8.04?

  • exelent, any one can tell me how can i install those efects, or where can i find them??

    tks

  • they're probably in compiz svn, want to give a try?

  • that screensaver flying window plugin looks awesome!

  • i mean such :D

  • linux catching up with mac, thats suck a bullshit, linux is the best operating system and most security if u know how to use it

  • great!

  • nice effect i like it 4/5..hehe..

  • those screensavers are pretty cool!

  • catching up? linux is ahead of mac when it comes to this!

  • Agreed, Mockstoday!

  • I agree with

    Sh4dyCat

  • Was that sarcasm?

  • jajajajajajajajajaja

    jajajajajajajajajaja

    jajajajajajajajajaja

    jajajajajajajajajaja

you can download it no Linux

  • no vista architecture does not support this effects

  • no shit.

  • Nice video man.

What did you use for screen cap? and where do you get these plugins from anyways?

I'm gonna make a video of Compiz on my new Radeon 4850 :)

  • How could you make videos working that fine?

On my pc videos are flashing badly when compiz runs! Help!

  • I'd recommend that you googled for your problem, or visited their forums.

There's always a geek on the forums that has the commands you're looking for :)

  • also gimme the link to the theme plz

  • how the i get and install those plugins

  • That is so amazing..

  • even the pc amatuers using Micro$oft windows have to admit that windows is crap. Get out of your bill gates boxes and use a proper OS

  • agreed.i dual boot windows xp and linux,i just use windoze for my apps, plus windows is ugly as hell

  • they are NOT fishes but WHALES: mammals. But the plugins are great. :)

  • dang I love Linux but I just cant get my internet working on it. I guess that just means im gonna have to remain a windows user.

  • What is your wireless card?

  • you should try Ubuntu 8.10 when it appears on 30.10, it has better internet connection and better support for wireless

  • I thik, linux is powerfull tool for all. + Favorite.

  • I want that green wallpaper badly

  • Linux owns

  • does this work on Windows XP?

  • No, not windows. Get linux, you'll thank yourself.

  • Well i've heared that Linux doesn't run Games very well. is this true?

  • Not quite.

Games made specifically for Windows can only run on Linux using WINE (WINE is like an emulator.) Not all games work with WINE.

There are also a large number of games made specifically for Linux. All games by ID Software have Linux versions. UT2004 has a Linux version, and UT3 for Linux will be released in 2008.

Graphics card drivers are trickier. Nvidia and ATI both make Linux drivers, but they don't always work right away. People on forums will help you set them up, though.

  • linux itself runs games better than windows...we can compare quake4-3-2 ut-2002-2003-2004 etc etc.

However since it's diferent OS games need to be compiled for linux and there's no inteligent people in games industry it seems, and they fail to see the potential of linux customers...

  • where i can download this?

  • Official Website.

    Search "Compiz" on Google.

  • wasn't the point of screen savers to prevent CRTS from burning images onto the screen?

  • yes, and if somone was to use a plasma screen as a computer monitor, the same problem would occur.

  • where can i get this pleas please please link

  • damn, i cant install.. it says "compiz not installed" when i try to compile.

  • you need ATI 3800HD for this LOL

  • Intel integrated card, Pentium II, 256 mb of RAM, and it runs just fine.

  • i've got an ati radeon 9800xt and a amd at 1.3ghz and i can't..really..

  • Andrea: Ubuntu 8.04 has no drivers that works well for the 9000-series. If you use ubuntu, upgrade to beta 8.10 if you really want it.

    Alt+F2 update-manager -d

  • Amazing!.......... aero sucks!!

  • On KDE 3.5

    Wow, this is CooL

    Haha Fish!!

  • i love compiz fusion

but in kubuntu with kde4 grapchic system is very really nice !!

    =)

  • Where and how can I get these?

  • lymecat, download or request CDs of Ubuntu Linux from the Ubuntu website (do a search).

The free cds take a few weeks to ship, but you're getting an entire operating system - which you can use inplace of Windows (or have a dual boot, so you choose which operating system you want to go into when you turn your PC on)

  • I don't know where you got this... I was talking about the plugins, not Ubuntu itself rofl. I got the plugins now anyways.

  • sifriheavy, why don't you seriously take the time to learn Linux and at least be able to appreciate why people love it so much. I recommend Ubuntu for the beginning Linux user. Oh and you should take a training course in hardware before you speak about it.

  • I MASTER ubuntu, mandriva (powerpack edition), suse and free bsd, in them, I used kde, gnome, fluxbox, enlightenment, with compiz fusion running in the aixgl mode, and still I prefer mac os x, linux is a waste of time.

    training course in hardware? LMAO.

  • if u dont like it suck a dick it doesnt like you either linux is great dont compare it to mac

  • Why would he need a training course in hardware? He just takes what mac gives him, that way he doesn't actually have to choose for himself.

  • I would say, I choose the LESS problematic solution and the BEST operative system the market has to offer.

  • The main problem with pc is windows, and i don't use windows at all. Everything i would want from mac i can run on linux, and it's fuckin free!!! If you are into graphic design or video editing then buy a mac, it will be perfect for you. Other than that i have no need to waste my money and pay out the ass on a monopolized software company.

  • u neved used a mac for more than 1 month dont u? whatever linux does, mac can do it easier and prettier.

  • haha i used a mac for an entire fucking summer man, it's alright but i really wasn't that impressed. To each his own, you can pay for it if you want. Whatever mac does, linux can do...for free

  • Rofl fanboy, i use macs professionaly for work, ( motion graphic/3d animator ) and honestly what youre saying is just prejudiced fanboyism.

  • my last msg was aimed @ sifriheavy btw not Leusch.

Oh btw leusch i cant go without windows myself, since im a 3d designer.

  • you are so mature with your comment, u only know how to use macs for work....

  • LOL. Oh man you're making a fool of yourself, i use it for Media 100, Shake, Maya, Rhino3d, After Effects, photoshop, illustrator 24/7, i resort back to windows for 3ds max, vray and almost all rendering shit. And you're telling me im "JUST" using it for work? i prolly make more hours on those pieces of shit on a yearly base than you'll ever do. Stop being a prejudiced fanboy and gains some damn perspective.

  • lol i dont see anything immature about his comments, he's just pointing out that you're an obvious mac fanboy. calm down man.

  • yes, i think im a mac fanboy, just cuz mac os x really rock in a lot of areas linux dont.

  • hahaha that doesn't help your case man. problem with your mac fanboy status makes that statement very biased. I'm still not willing to pay for any of those areas you might think of.

  • Ever tried Blender?

  • Yeah i have :) Its good, but unpractical for me.

  • You mean impractical, and... how? You just learn how to use it. I'm not even a 3D modeler, and I learned how to make a little dude with bones in about ten minutes with it, then put a texture on his head for a face.

  • Impractical because almost no one in the industry works with it, that i would have to relearn a whole package just cause this ones opensource. Because i cant use most of the content created for 3ds max and maya users to improve their workflow. The list goes on :P i dont think blender is shit, for me its just not feasible to work with it ;)

  • You sort of have a point, but he's right about the 'Linux can do it for free' thing. I guess if you're using a Mac at work, then you wouldn't have much of a reason to use Linux, though the system administrator and company would because of the total cost of ownership and it would probably be easier to set up a roaming system. I know that the cost for the Windows licenses at my school is a ton of money (~$100 per machine bundled with other products, I think.)

  • Oh it was aimed at Sifriheavy, the fanboy :) I was just defending Linux and windows. Cause macs aint as awesome as people say they are for some people.

  • lick my balls boy

  • just perfect.

  • ubuntu is the shit people i had vista in my vaio and i have to do updates atleast once a week and the graphics on this thing are awsome and its freeee woot woot

  • It's no use trying to argue with mac-people. When one has invested so much money in a piece of machinery it'd take a paradigm-shift in computing before any normal person would admit to being wrong in handing out so much money for a computer.

Lambhorghini Diablos sure look nice, but they supposedly suck to drive steering-wise.

  • Lambhorghini Diablo sucks, thats true, I have a Macbook pro, I would spend the same ammount of money over and over again to buy a GREAT LAPTOP in the future.

  • "I would spend the same ammount of money over and over again to buy a GREAT LAPTOP in the future"

I agree, the horsepower on a Macbook Pro really shines when you install Ubuntu on it. ;-)

  • oh well, thats true xD

But still I prefer the software database of Leopard over Ubuntu ;)

  • sifriheavy: Everybody is entitled to his/her opionion; even if they know they are wrong.

  • guys guys, u know it, there is no comparison between mac os x and linux, GET THINGS DONE? yeah right, like no one has any problems with linux and hardware compatibility, I dont know what OS presents more incompatibility issues with hardware, if vista or any linux flavor.

  • Actually, if you were to take OS X and attempt to install it on a non-mac you'd run into a WHOLE lot more hardware problems. Apple codes for a few specific hardware configurations and that's it.

You can find this out if you try to run a Hackintosh. It's extremely difficult.

So linux is indeed ahead of the curve--you can install it on nearly any computer, new or old. Some distros don't work for this or that reasons, but overall, it will work.

(hardware problems are usually the vendor's fault).

  • Yeah, however OS X is designed for only mac hardware solutions. which is why I don't like it.

But a point can be well made, if you buy from a linux vendor, you'll get a well working computer

  • No, linux is not ahead of the curve, cuz it was made to work in faulty PC hardware, are u only thinking about software? yeah, we know linux is free, but u get a better deal buying a macbook, the features kill any pc and os X with Bootcamp is just great, no hardware problem, I wouldnt want to use MAC OS X in anything other than mac.

a user should look for a stable Computer with no hardware problems, no matter what the cost is, MAC OS X and MACS deliver, linux and pcs, DONT.

  • What is faulty hardware? I built my own computer and it works fine. There's nothing wrong with my hardware. You can't build your own mac for $300 like I built my linux box and expect it to work.

And you can't compare "Linux" to "Mac". Linux is a bunch of software which will run on anything you want. "Mac" is a combination of hardware and software made specifically for that hardware and that hardware only.

I think price matters. /end troll feed

  • When people wants something good, they work their ass out to get some money, and buy something good.

    Quality > everything else

    /end troll feed

  • i know everyone hates the guy that actualy knows wat hes talking about, but osx is based on unix. Stop arguing! Macs are better for artists and college students (and dare i say liberal tree huging hippies) and linux is better for serious, hardcore users that dont want sugar-coated unix.

  • "and linux is better for serious, hardcore users that dont want sugar-coated unix." Harcore is ok, but serious? I dont know, compiz fusion is just a waste of time, I consider it to be a SUGAR COAT just to make linux a lil bit appealing to people.

Can people at least name one thing, one program linux has that OSX doesnt?

  • it's free...enough said. they are both unix based and linux is free.
