For me their 1st Lp, Limping for a generation has to be their best. Less easily accessible and glossy than their later, more successful albums, it's definitely worth a little time and investment, assuming of course that you can find it!
Bloody awesome band they was ... Loved Dr Robert . Brilliant concert and the Town & Country Kentish Town back in the day... Maybe they'll do a come-back. Its all the rage !! Brilliant !
@johnmcboston I actually preordered through the BlowMonkeys website, and because I did so my payment went to help them pay for the making of the Devil's Tavern ... incidentally my name is now in the liner notes.... cool! I checked out ebay and there were no copies ... so perhaps it is only import.
I KNEW I'd find this video here! So many memories of this--I had Animal Magic on vinyl and played the living shit out of it! This was, by far, the gem on the record. The Blow Monkeys had such an interesting sound for 1986--the horns? So good!
loved this band in the 80's..had their first 2 albums...animal magic was great...best song on that though was Aeroplane City Long Song...awesome song.......very stylish band, very polished sound.......cool videos....top notch British Glam/fashion/new romantic Pop.......I loved every minute of it.
The music sounds better. The clothes look better. The people are more attractive. The style is phenomenal. It was the 80's, and it was my generation. This video is a perfect example of why I'm so proud to have been part of this.
I bought this cd in 88 and played it a billion times.
this tune was on the progressive rock station in the summer of 86. Unfortunately, that station was bought out by some narrow minded morons who switched to a classic rock format and thus began a long nightmare...the rise of corporate rock. Makes me appreciate this sound so much now.
The Blow Monkeys were a great band that few ever got to know or hear. My friends and myself listened to "Animal Magic" all the time. I'll never forget making out all night with this disc playing over 5 times over and over and over. This song is the best! Thanks for the memories.
Fantastic- Thanks for uploading. I think this is easily their best song - the world has yet to wake up to it...! Would be ace on the end of a film soundtrack.
I saw them the summer of 1986 at Park West,Utah when they were touring with Robert Palmer. Sure brings back some good memories. It also reminds me of terrific sunset I witnessed while listening to the song that same summer. Thanks for posting it!
a timeless song. for anyone in the 80s that listened to the blowmonkeys, their songs have to be among the most memorable. i think ivy did a fine job with digging your scene, although there's nothing like the original.
yah, that's happening a lot these days - YT seems to be clampping down - even though these videos aren't available anywhere else... I've seen a lot disappear as well
Thanks for posting! Love this band and this is my favorite song from them. I was 15 when I saw them in concert in '85 in LA. Almost didn't get in since the venue was 18 and over, but I was determined to see them play. They sound just as good live as on record. Any one have He's Shedding Skin or Man from Russia video?

Thank to the Blow Monkeys & Dr Robert
they brought some REAL music to the 80's mish mosh (of course there were other great band "Orange Juice etc)
But Dr Rober also helped Marc Bolan/T.Rex Fans with mentioning them in interviews as influences
and the real Treat of this song is the finally pully Mickey Finn (T.Rex bongo player) out from hiding to do session work
sadly its a bit buried in the track but it was such a Joy to See/hear Mickey Finn doing music again I am getting the new CD ASAP
