the RPG cage wont stop a true shape charged attack.. as an IED hunter I can tell you with confidence that even the thick armor of an Abrams has been defeated by mid sized shape charges. They are called EFPs

Too heavy AND too lightly armored??!?!? Wtf? You can't have both! Either you make it heavy with lots of armor or you take the armor off and make it light for transport, you cant have both!

The bird-cage armor is the ONLY thing that is going to protect you from a shaped charge attack!

NO, they have it right. The Stryker is too heavy from its inefficient propulsive weight and oversized thin hull box and too lightly armored.

NDYT, Unfortunately the wheeled layout alone is a massive compromise because you are engineering 8X 3D cutouts into the structural box & then running power to all & steerinig to four. 'Slats' have been around since late WWII (the Germans used fine mesh screens instead of schurzen) & are vulnerable to both HMG/AMR AP in the 12.7-14.5 category & HEAT restrike in the same area. RPG are cheap and tires burn easy. APS (QK or Trophy) are the best way, backed by fast reactives on a smaller chassis.
