Fucking masterpiece, although I would say that it's the most overrated of Radiohead's releases. Still not their worst, though - for me it lies somewhere in the middle - and still one of the greatest albums of all time.
Id have to say one of thes greatest songs is Tree Fingers idk what it is about it its so relaxing and idk takes me to a better place when things were less complex in life
kid A. so many memories. its still as twisted as i remember it. i used to be scared to listen to this at 9-10 years old. but like an invisible force i just couldnt stop listening to it. it was the album id put on to fall asleep to. i was so oblivious then, this album helped me see things much more differently. too young probably... but i thank you radiohead. also like to include "the most gigantic lying mouth of all time" when i first started smoking weed at 13 id watch it all the time.
This album is a great, and while I do believe that people can grow on albums, i think that if it requires you to listen to a song a lot of times to like it, then it isn't as good as you're making it seem. The best music has a valuable message AND is immediately attractive, like OK Computer was to me, genius at first listen. I still think this album is great though, especially Kid A, National Anthem and Motion Pic
I feel like the only person on the planet that loves Kid A and everything after but sincerely finds OK Computer super boring. I'm not saying OK Computer is bad. i just feel no connection with it. It just sounds like a band writing songs. Whereas Kid A and everything after takes me somewhere else.
I loved the album from the first time I listened to it. I felt it accurately portrayed the way I am feeling about life. I dont normally listen to this genre of music. Thats if you can place Radiohead into one genre. Saying they are "alternative" doesnt do their music justice. But should we classify music anyway. who are we to judge what artists think of themselves.
I still don't get this album, but since everyone says it takes time and it's kind of magical, I won't say I hate it... but still, this is disappointing to me after OK Computer.
@LaughingUltros I have a lot of respect for you. When you don't like something you say why, and gave a great reason. When people just say "kid a sucks" or something similar about almost anything, they are just being stupid. This is how people should b e able to judge something they are not very fond of. As much as I love kid a, I do agree that it isn't for everyone, and you are probably like those people.
You know, I have warmed up to some songs on my now seventh listen.
Idioteque is great (didn't like it at first), How to Disappear Completely is growing on me and is proving to be a quite powerful song, In Limbo is somewhat captivating me with its weirdness.
I want to at least come to terms with this record before moving on to Amnesiac haha.
@LaughingUltros This is what a lot of people are saying, and to quote staticbunnystudios
"A masterpiece, but not on first listen."
You're not the only one who has had the album grown on them, and I'm happy to see that, I remember when in rainbows didn't have that, connection I make with music... but it finally came after many listens, and its one of my favorite albums of all time. Amnesiac has some amazing tracks, and it should be easier to get into after getting into this.
@themadmoose245 Well, thanks to 'themadmoose245' upload I've just heard the album in full for the first ever time. I did like Radiohead up until OK Computer but was somewhat put off by the critics assessment of Kid A in 2000 as it was inevitably considered to be something of a side-step at the time and not the real GENUINE follow-up to OKC. Time has changed it apparently and Rolling Stone magazine now vote it the Greatest Album Of The 2000's! After just 2 further plays I bought it. FANTASTIC!
@ExpertSEnior - I simply wanted to thank you themadmoose245 for sharing what will now (I believe) become one of my all time favourite albums. I have tons of music from the early 1900's through to latest releases and love all kinds of rock, r'n'b, folk, jazz, pop, electro, pop etc but this album just kills me. It's amazing - I fail to see why anyone cannot recognise genius at work. It's not remotely weird or inaccessible either. It's profound, spiritual and definitely moving.
I've been listening to both Kid A and Amnesiac, Kid A is clearly superior, but there are quite a few Kid A tracks I don't like, along with Amnesiac tracks I don't like at all, both albums are a mixed bag to me (Kid A is the sweetest one though).
What I did was, since Amnesiac is basically B-sides from Kid A, make a playlist with Kid A, and then remove songs I don't like from it, replacing them with songs I do like from Amnesiac.
@themadmoose245 It really depends on where you are in your life when it comes to music. I've played guitar for over 5 years, but I'm really enjoying electronic music, and there's no way I would have liked this album 5 years ago. If you're not meant to like it now, you won't. But there's a good chance that some time in your life you will like it.
@themadmoose245 its my belief that to truly appreciate it you have to be almost obsessive about its details. that has been my experience; there is so much changing of music history that goes on during the 40 or so minutes this is on the player. touches like the ondes martenot and the shapes and textures often go ignored by casual music listeners and are generally highly appreciated (sometimes overly so) by music professionals or artists or what have you--lots of technical data!
@LaughingUltros Dude, Amnesiac is hard to get into. Kid A took me 2 or 3 listens, but I hated Amnesiac for over half a year before i warmed up to it. I recommend listening to it in the dark. Amnesiac doesn't work very well when there's light IMO.
@AnimeGuy9 Kid A is usually seen as their hardest album to get into, but deep down inside even upon first listen, although part of you is disappointed it's not OK Computer 2, part of you knows it's good music unlike anything else you've heard before. I agree that Amnesiac is harder to get into because it's so seems so flawed. But eventually you realise that its flaws are part of its inebriated charm, and actaully galvanise the album. Probably the most interesting album they've done.
@LaughingUltros Eventually you will find that Kid A is just as incredible, and in some ways, superior to OK Computer. But it does require MANY listens, because it is one of the most challenging, but also most rewarding albums ever made. I like all their albums, although admittedly I'm still not a big fan of The King of Limbs.
@LaughingUltros The chance that it will grow on you is bigger than that it won't do anything.. give it some more tries. I love every Radiohead album. The King Of Limbs took a while for me to appreciate fully.. but in the end I really did.
@LaughingUltros Everyone says this is one of Radioheads best albums if not thee best album, but I'm having a bit of trouble getting into it. I find amnesiac to be much less "wierd". Easier to listen to. But it's just the songs that didn't make the cut for kid A. I'm with you man, maybe I'll understand this album after I listen to it a few times.
How much would you pay for a coffee with Mr. Yorke? like friends, you know. To what level the conversation can raise with a person that his world is colored in black and white?
I've loved OK Computer for many years but it took me a long time to get the feeling of Kid A. This is really one of their greatest works, i have to say, along with OK Computer and The Bends. i actually quite understand people that don't get Radiohead but i feel sorry for their loss because they are missing some great piece of art.
Why do so many so-called "alternative" bands feel like they have to copy the most easily digestible parts of OK Computer? That's why I like Kid A. Its about 3 years progress from OK Computer. And I respect all musicians, its just hard to respect the fans who can listen to the same exact thing for years and years...
