This is an awesome demostration brother, don't pay attention to the rest of the other comments. this hm-2 sounds the way swedish death metal sounds. now a question, what's the difference between the one made in japan and the one made in taiwan? witch one are you using? l really dig it. sorry for my bad english btw.
@piratatrillo thanks buddy, i did some research about the Taiwan and Japan versions and the answer is always that they sound identical. Mine is the Taiwan Version…
@xtimehascomex awesome bro!!! because l just bought the one made in taiwan... the japanese is more expensive and can't afford it. thanks and keep rocking.
@spicecrop I found that to be an interesting bias in this review as well; though I don't dislike the sound he chose to demonstrate it, I find it strange that it's the pedal with both the lowest gain setting, as well as the most extreme EQ setting (i.e. both knobs all the way up)
good try but i own every 4 pedals and my settings are completely different from yours and it's true that the HM-2 Can sound a lot better than what you show us. But thank's anyway for the demo
@TheElectroman2010 Thats pretty strange cause I dig the sound of the HM-2 like this and on top this is the HM-2 setting that made the sound of bands like Entombed (all knobs to 11)
ML-2 sounded kinda thick and bassy, HM-2 sounded too thin and trebly, HM-3 sounded pretty good. Just that rhythms sounded kinda messy and unclear through it. MT-2 sounded great among all of them. Maybe its just me not liking stuff with lots of bass, that's why I love the sound of the MT-2.
What's your (@xtimehascomex) favourite pedal anyway?
@b44styreraug the HM-2 sounds thin and treble because of the stupid settings this guy uses. look at the knobs. the mid and treble are maxed out. this pedal smokes when they are like this ( \ ) ( / )
i have watched other demos of HM2 and almost nobody use this setting. Since it is "heavy metal" pedal i dont think that heavy metal sounds like that. Other pedals sound good and comparing to them u made HM2 sounds pathetic. Try to set the color mix to 3 oclock positions it sounds better IMO.
@cableaddict The knob values and sound of these pedals are pretty different, I tried to dail in some sweetspots that sound best to me to give you an idea how the ideal setting on those pedals compare to each other…
It doesent make sense to me to have one pedal pristine sounding and the other 3 bad sounding just to have the same settings on them cause they really differ alot…
@llamatimetobi98 i will consider this for future shootouts but the HM-2 for example is used with the knobs set to full by most users and also the MT-2 needs alot more tweaking to sound at least okay and not as a bee locked in a can...
Owned them all, and the only two I kept were the ML-2 and HM-3. Never use the HM-3, though . . . too much "nest of bees" for my taste (any "nest of bees is too much, IMHO). Between the Metal Muff and the ML-2, just about any metal sound you'd want is there.
It's funny to see how you have the HM-2 set up. I remember reading an interview in a guitar magazine years ago when one of the guys from Entombed was explaining how you get "the Swedish sound" that you can hear on all those classic death metal albums of the early 90s. Basically he was like, "well you get an HM-2, put the level at noon and everything else all the way up, and there you go."
On your demo, the Metal Core and the Hyper Metal have the same sound !

the setting you have for the HM2 is not that pedals sweet spot at all. I have one and it sounds much better with a different setting on the eq

@StratLM The setting on the HM-2 is not at all stupid cause this is the setting most players prefer on the HM-2 and which also sounds best!!!!

You have them all set completely differently! What kind of a test is that?
THIS IS WORTHLESS. - could have been very useful.

My vote's gotta go:
ML-2
HM-3 / MT-2 (tied for 2nd)
HM-2 (distant 11th)
Owned them all, and the only two I kept were the ML-2 and HM-3. Never use the HM-3, though . . . too much "nest of bees" for my taste (any "nest of bees is too much, IMHO). Between the Metal Muff and the ML-2, just about any metal sound you'd want is there.

If i remember it correct, its everything at max. Nowadays we use it as a booster instead. max everything except the gain, you leave it at 1/10.
