  • You're a fantastic teacher. Thanks again for another great lesson.

  • @the12345joker Thanks for the kudos - I only help that it help you and others like you. I love to see people actually taking the lessons and coming back and reporting that they've nailed the song. Then I can tell them one of my favourite things: now go learn another song!

  • @howtoplaybassdotcom Thank you thank you. You'll hear from me again once I learn this track. BTW, you're playing sounds fantastic.

  • too bad you're going way too fast even when you say you're demonstrating it slowly..

  • Hey man, great lesson.... I'm new in playing bass and I just learned are you gonna be my girl and californication. Do you have lessons about the placing of the fingers on the fretboard and some excercises that I may practice??

  • @porkyupine Yep I do. Go to the website and look for the 'VIRTUAL DVD" series - under the OTHER CONTENT tab. The videos are old and poorly recorded - but the content is timeless.

  • @howtoplaybassdotcom Thanks a lot.

  • @porkyupine Welcome.

  • Quality lesson; thanks for taking the time to break this one down, great job!

  • @dback139 You're welcome - thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!

  • Really clear, much better to see and hear than just read the tabs, thanks

  • hay paul, how much was your bass?

  • @MrChris8723 This was - from memory - was around £1000. But that was around 20 years ago....

  • I totally agree with everything youve said, and i greatly appreciate the videos you have made. Although i dont listen to much of ur selected music the knowledge stored in these basslines is tremendous. and a must for anyone like myself who is learning. that being said, I, personally would like to see some intermediate level rock, just a suggestion.

  • @DoubleEntendreSongs I think people all over the world listen to Bernard Edwards's bass playing. The guy was a total legend - and died wayyyyy before his time. I understand this kind of tune is not your bag - and that's cool with me - my suggestion is that if you're looking to get better at the bass you learn from as many different bass players as possible - that way as you progress you'll have different ideas and rhythms to draw from in your bass playing. Flea is a great example of this.

  • @howtoplaybassdotcom Hey Paul, you're really a posh Brit, not only your accent. I wouldn't have replied this punk the way you did, LOL! I would have been a little more 'crass' :D

  • @nukebass If he'd been really rude I would have deleted his comment and blocked him. But what he said was OK - and also I think the point I was trying to make that the best bass players listen to all genres is valid and maybe will help him. take John Paul Jones of Led Zepp for instance - he played in a driving, hard rocking band and yet there's lines he plays on some of the first two Led Zep albums that would fit Motown songs.

  • @howtoplaybassdotcom YEP, good times bad times is pure motown.

  • @nukebass Also I'm not one for flaming or getting into arguments, it's a total waste of energy and time. If people don't like the songs I teach, hey no-one's forcing them to watch. They should just save themselves some time and energy and go watch something they like.

    That's my 2 cents anyway.

  • @howtoplaybassdotcom I totally agree with you bassbrother, I receive some harsh comments sometimes and I try to be cool. Most times I actually go funny with the comment at all. It's really a waste of time to feed trolls. Anyway, nice tuto's you've been posting here, keep up the good work and sorry for my bad english :-)

  • And one last comment I forgot, when you are explaining how to play it, I noticed you always use the chords first, before saying '5th fret on the A string' as an example, it gets kinda confusing when you're trying to learn from the video if you don't know your chords, such as myself.

  • @Elltrixer I'll bear it in mind, but it's important to know what chords you're playing over so that if you decide you 're gonna throw in some variations you know what notes you can choose from to create those variations.

  • The bass is really loud on mine, there is no problem, thanks for the video :)

  • @theScytheofGod Dude, any louder and I start overdriving the mic input on the camera - have you tried listening with headphones?

  • @howtoplaybassdotcom Is it possible to put whatever amplification you use closer to the mic input? I can wear headphones, but learning the song at the same time is a pain. Have you noticed that your voice is much louder than the actual bass? That's got to mean something. No disrespect, but there's a lot of bass players who do this, and I do want to listen to your lesson.

  • @theScytheofGod You seem to have a problem with the Bass on your speakers.
