I don't understand too much when they sing "Power to Believe" what is it supposed to mean? I mean is something supposed to give you strength to believe in something?
I can't believe a film critic said at the time this film came out that it had a poor soundtrack! One of the best film soundtracks ever and used with great effect.
This movie wears many masks. It makes you want to laugh, it makes you want to cry, maybe even makes you want to strangle someone. But I firmly believe that in terms to John Candy's memory, this movie is so dear because it called on talents and emotions that he hardly portrayed in any other film.
I was 16 years old when this song was released. I am now 40 years old, but the emotion still remains. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Why can't they make movies like this anymore :( A movie that can make you laugh, tug at your heart, and leave you in the end learning a valuable life lesson. I miss John Candy and John Hughes, thumbs up if you agree.
I always like this song in this movie. Remember when John Candy took his socks off on the plane? Haha, He was naturally funny, nothing was rehearsed. Like Bill Cosby, you can be humorous without being vulgar. Thanks for posting.
Just watched it.....i dont get it...no speical effects, explosions, no naked skanks....yet kept me completely drawn in. Its a shame movies like this are a dying breed.
@TowManSKS This was the magic of John Hughes. It is sad to see movies like this get replaced by overused cliches, remakes, & just plain copies of good films like these. I still say Due Date was basically a crude copy of this movie, which makes me disappointed in the film makers of today.
@TheCapBerry lets hope so. the world needs more people like John and some of these new upcoming stars could take a few lessons from how well John was loved and admired.
He truly was a great guy. Always made me laugh still does to this day. I am quite certain that everyone who was fortunate enough to meet him and know him personally feel their lives have been blessed.
@lemonjellies hi i just have the same as you, this is my all time hugh, candy, martin movie.this movie is so sad and funny at the same time.my tradition the past 8 years is to watch this movie to myself days up to thanksgiving, even i do no not live in the usa :))
tried so many times to make my wife to watch this, just once! but she could not feel the magic !! :O(
when del said he is homeless my heart sank because i feel for the guy. hes homeless and he found a new friend and he's scared that he is driving him away.
I love the scene from the movie when Neil and Del get pulled over by the state trooper. He says 'what the hell are you drivin"? Del respondes "I know it doesn't look like much officer, but its still runs and hey what do you know the radio still works":D
"You wanna hurt me? Go right ahead if it makes you feel any better. I'm an easy target. Yeah you're right. i talk too much; i also listen too much. I can be cold-hearted cynic like you, but i don't like to hurt people's feelings.you think what you want about me.i'm not changing. I like, I like me, my wife likes me, my customers like me because I'm the real article. What you see is what you get."
I miss you John Candy, please tell me your still alive :(
it shows us all that in moments of anger we all think we have problems, we meet people who seem to have fun with life while beneath the skin theyre cying more than us,in this case dell had no home.
god this song and clip makes me so sad, its so weird i miss someone so much and i never had the plessure of meeting..would have given everything i have to had gone on their road trip...i bet dale griffiths would have sold me a thousand curtain rings before the trip ended!!!!i miss u so so soooo much john candy, u my friend are my hero, with much respect from Australia
Please look in your local Australian local community and you will find, some regular, everyday man with a heart of gold like Dell Griffiths/John Candy - he's there, just need to be recognized and loved.
@Tubeghost... What you said about everything prior to (and especially including) "moving mountains within ourselves..." is one of the most profound, spontaneous statements I've ever read. You are extremely wise beyond your years, from what I can tell. God bless...
John would have been 60 on October 31. I will never forget the day he died March 4, 1994 - at the gas station when the news came on the radio...one of the best.
Years ago, I would have told you I preferred the instrumental. But now I really have been stirred by the lyrics of this song. This is my own take, but the main character in the song's mistake was becoming fixated with the power OF belief, but did not realize that the real power you possess is the power TO have faith. Once you do that, it's nearly unshakable. But if you rely on the power to move mountains and fail you become dispirited. The mountains to move are within.
Nicely done. Great story, great way to get you to think about what is really important in life and sometimes what is not. Great song as well - which is how I wound up here.
To anyone watching this who is, let's say 25 and under, it was a truly sad day when John Candy died. I cried so hard. I was old enough to remember (I was 13) and no celebrity death has hit me as hard since. I had been saddened, but not terribly shocked. I had seen footage of his on ET just two weeks earlier, and he was ENORMOUS. Rest in Peace, John.
@MIKESOWELL I've had the same reaction. I am older than you, I think I've seen every John Candy movie and I still feel like a piece of me is missing and will not ever come back. Thanks for putting it in words so well. God Bless You John
@MIKESOWELL 25 and under? Wow, I'm some years older than that, and while I probably only misted up a bit, I STILL feel the loss of John Candy and I grew up just old enough to understand some of the humor on SCTV and of course, his great movies. There are some deaths that hit you, though. John Candy just seemed like a genuinely decent human being and a comic genius, it's hard to take a loss like that. We still have Lindsay Lohan though. *smacks face*
soooo god damn sad..im 25 year old male from australia and would give anything to shake john candy's hand......i own a copy of this and never get sick of it,i wish i was on their road trip, would have had a blast and come home with no money and a whole heap of debt, but it would be worth it..........cheers for putting this up
@TowManSKS I totally agree! I was born in 1985 I am a y-generation guy, but I behave and act like a generation x person! I am ashamed of the latter years of the y-generation. X-Generation things make me feel better as a person. That is why I am obsessed with the 80s! It was a much better time period to live and be in, not like today.
It just makes me sad that I was never able to meet either Mr. Hughes or John Candy. I truly believe that if I had met them I would have been a much better human being. All of their projects made me laugh so hard R.I.P Mr. Candy and Mr. Hughes. You are making angels and God laugh their socks off.
@RazielFallenAngel This song makes me cry like a stupid little kid. It's a great emotional tearjerker. It does invoke sadness, but Mr. Candy was a great actor and will always be missed. Thank's John, for being the big man you were. It does remind me of my ex too, and I'll say thanks boo, for being a good woman when needed the most.
Does anybody remember the music that was playing when Neal and Del were on the train? The same music is reprised later in the movie without the drums (after their rental car burned up) at the second motel. My dad said that he remembered hearing that music on Miami Vice. Can anybody else confirm this?
This is such a wonderful video. You are a very talented and tasteful individual for make this and sharing it with the rest of the world. I'm sure John Candy and John Hughes Families are just as proud of this work, as they are up there. :-)
Saw this for the very 1st time last night. I remember the TV spots from back in 1987. Dang; why did it take me 23 years to finally see it? Ranks right up there with Midnight Run! Gave me a whole new appreciation for Mr. Candy - so moving. I downloaded this song, going to send it to a friend, and also order the Those Aren't Pillows Edition. Awesome montage -thanx!
it really touches me everytime I watch. This movie will always be a classic. Steve martin and John candy are fantastic. Will always rememember it in my heart. ty 4 this.
I have watched this movie dozens of times and any excuse to watch it again i will. It is in its own way a beautiful movie. It should be up there with the best of em. End of.
wow thanks for uploading this jessica! been watching this movie now for 20 years and it never gets boring, a true classic comedy with great acting. great song thanks again
Everytime this movie was on tv i watched it with my family,I ´ve got this movie on dvd and watch it from time to time. I love this movie and espacially the end where Neil takes Dal to his home, they become friends even if they are totally different.I liked Dal from the first moment. this movie is so heart-warming. John Candy and Steve Martin are brilliant actors. This is one of the best movies ever made. Nothing compared what´s coming out today.
What can I say. This movie has been watched in my home ever since it was available on DVD. It's a Thanksgiving tradition to watch it every year. Thanks Jessica for posting this. Watching this makes me emotional.
FIrst I'd like to say that you are dearly missed John Candy. You always made me laugh when things were not so great. You gave us the best. There will never be another you my friend. I hope that you are resting well Del Griffith.
The role of the "nice guy" must have come very easy to John Candy...he didn't have to do any acting . John Hughes' movies may be trademarks of the 80's, but are some of the best of all time. R.I.P. Mr. Candy and Mr. Hughes .
@squabs217 You're absolutely right.... Some of the more unscrupulous people in the business took advantage of Candy because he was so friendly and trusting and kind. Shame on them; good for HIM for being what's right.
- John Candy is one of Canada's greatest, and funniest, character actors. His well-known role as the big hearted buffoon earned him classics in Uncle Buck (1989) and Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987). His career has handed him some dry spells, but Candy always rebounded.
Amazing. Miss John Candy so much. Wish I got the chance to meet him. Sounds like a wonderful man.

Does anybody remember the music that was playing when Neal and Del were on the train? The same music is reprised later in the movie without the drums (after their rental car burned up) at the second motel. My dad said that he remembered hearing that music on Miami Vice. Can anybody else confirm this?

Saw this for the very 1st time last night. I remember the TV spots from back in 1987. Dang; why did it take me 23 years to finally see it? Ranks right up there with Midnight Run! Gave me a whole new appreciation for Mr. Candy - so moving. I downloaded this song, going to send it to a friend, and also order the Those Aren't Pillows Edition. Awesome montage -thanx!

John Candy R.I.P.
- Date of Birth
31 October 1950, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
- Date of Death
4 March 1994, Durango, Mexico (heart attack)
- Height
6' 2½" (1.89 m)
- John Candy is one of Canada's greatest, and funniest, character actors. His well-known role as the big hearted buffoon earned him classics in Uncle Buck (1989) and Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987). His career has handed him some dry spells, but Candy always rebounded.

Sanka Coffie: Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, its bobsled time! COOL RUNNINGS!

@Prakorn It's a movie about Jamaicans who become a bobsled team and go to Canada. It's pretty funny.
