If you buy a Canon, you will eventually have to face the factory service center and they will NOT honor their warranty. My HD so-called Professional Camera has been in the shop THREE times in its short 6 month life. They tried to charge me $1,000 because of a defective firewire port. Complete idiots. Defective equipment and a 4 year warranty. I will NEVER buy any Canon product again. Period. Considering it, are you? Save your money ... don't do it. Canon sucks.

just wondering:
what would be the diference in picture quality be between a semi professional video camera eg. the sony hvr-z1 and a hd camcorder?
what is better about the semi professsional ones?

semi-pro cams have more manual features, better inputs (XLR etc), and at least slightly better quality (especially in poor lighting)

i think what you have to do is Go through the settings within the camera to put in HDV Recording format, or you probably have to have HDV Mini tape to do it.

Only in standby.
My old ops mgr would be appalled. In the olden days, we had to record the wb on tape to prove it had been done...old habits die hard.
