  • Richard would be proud

  • No one can sing it quite like Mr. Richard Manuel. However, this is an incredibly beautiful version of the song.

  • 5 people shall be refucked

  • The Band's "I Shall Be Released" ***

  • Oh shit, Skylar is singing!

  • Totally ruined this song. I am a fleet foxes fan, but they shouldnt cover a dylan song and have such poncy passion about it. Takes every sense of feeling out of it. they belong in a church choir singing this.

  • @tazbaldwin You fucking trolling son? Its an unreal version, Dylan said that he never done this song justice because he couldn't give it enough emotion. He wrote it for Richard Manuel, and it's definitely done justice here.

  • Great tribute, but I don't think anyone can ever replace Richard Manuel. I'd like to hear the lead singer from Fleet Foxes sing Dylan's part here. I doubt if it will be Tweedy who rules after Dylan is gone. Bob has over 500 songs in his songbook. & I am certain there are many on napkins & scraps of paper that we have never heard. I hope he passes them on to his son, Jakob.

  • @ohiodixiechick2

I doubt Jakob would perform them, from the very beginning of his career he's been trying his best to create his own niche in the music world, separate from that of his father's. But I do think that after Bob's death a lot of stuff that's been hidden in the vaults will start to come out. Hopefully.

  • @Rossonero072213 I totally agree Jakob is his own man & I love his music, also. He has a great song with Court Yard Hounds (Dixie Chicks minus Natalie). Of course Wallflowers is unforgetable music. I am hoping Dylan, Sr. is around for a long time, but when he's gone I hope Sony/Columbia can't step in & control releases. Just saying I hate to rule out that at that time Jakob wouldn't delve into Father's unreleased songbook. As he matures can't help seeing similar mannerisms. Not a bad thing!

  • @ohiodixiechick2

Jakob's done pretty well himself, more so than Lennon's kids, I would say. Yeah, I hope that Bob lives for long time, too. I don't know how much control Sony would have over Bob's music after his death. I'd imagine that the bulk of it would be under his kids' control, maybe Jesse's?, but I do think that a lot of material's gonna be coming out long after Bob's long gone. Jakob has his dad's mannerisms, I was watching a PBS interview & there were moments when he was all Bob.

  • GREAT!!!!

  • Tweedy will rule the near future as Bob ruled the decades before. HAPPY BDAY Bob you have brought much happiness to this world.

  • they need to record this in a studio and release it. fo reals

  • Its pure bliss. It makes me soooo happy to hear this. Wilco and Fleet Foxes truly, deeply, wonderful Artist. I could listen forever and ever....thank you for posting! LOVE

  • This is Great! This is truly, deeply, magical wonderful music. Wilco and Fleet Foxes are great artists. Thank you so much for posting this. LOVE

  • Borrrrrrrrrrrring.

  • great version....loved the falsetto tribute to richard>>>>

  • how come i knew what dylan song they were gonna do as soon as i saw i the opening 10 secs....seems that whenever more than five people do a dyaln cover live its ""released"

  • supergroup, like in the seventies - crosby, stills, nash & young revisited

  • my prayers have been answered.

  • wait WHAT? fleet foxes aaaaaaaand wilco?! you've gotta be kidding me. I agree with jolietak, the universe should've indeed imploded.

  • @jonnyvibgyor yeah i did ...not bad .....

  • if ever there were a greater moment in history, I've never heard of it.

  • Makes me so happy. New album soonnnn!!!

  • I... Can... Die Happy now o_o....

  • @jolietak The only reason the universe didn't implode is because Tom Waits didn't emerge from the stage to sing the last verse, but this is more than enough to implode my mind

  • @IOIOIOIOIOIOIOIOIOIO How bout if Richard Manuel came out for the last verse?

  • @Spikedkitten kkkkplooosh *makes explosion noises with mouth*

  • is missing the Jeff Buckley version of that song

  • How have I not seen this until now?

  • Amazing, I just wish there was less cheering, lol.. but aty least the audience knew to shush once anyone started singing again.

  • this is a beautiful beautiful dream I could never have imagined

  • Fleet Foxes are amaaaaaziiiiiiiiiiiing without doubt they all can sing that's rare

  • i'm sorry, but is sky actually singing??? woahh never thought i'd see that!

what a great song and combination of artists i must say

  • huge wilco and fleet foxes fan. you might like my album it's free at petermacinnis.bandcamp.com

  • Wilco with Fleet,nuff said

  • My God this is the best performance since The Last Waltz.

  • Lump in my throat every time I watch this.

  • If you like these guys as much as I do, and you want to discover a similar up and coming artist. Check out Jailbox on iTunes, Twitter, and Myspace. I think you'll like what you hear ;)

  • this is one fucking amazing show wow. I can't believe it.

  • The band would be proud?? What about Bob Dylan?

  • My heart swells with happiness whenever I hear such beautiful sounds coming from people who love music so dearly.

  • Just like The Last Waltz. Awesome!

  • who ever expeirenced this in real life is a friend in my book

  • And great impersonation of Richard Manuel from The Band ;)

  • Whats that noise at 1:11 ?

  • Wilco and Fleet Foxes!!! Together!?! at the same time!!!!

  • @xanos4225 Americana!

  • quite lovely.

  • Fucking RIGHT!!!!!!!!

  • This is fucking beautiful!

  • This is a fucking amazing cover. I'm not a massive Fleet Foxes fan - I much prefer J. Tillman's albums - but their backing vocals for this song are perfect. The piano is amazing too. Great stuff.

  • Jay Bennet would even love this

  • very nice.

  • omg fucking amazing I love fleet foxes wilco and the band

  • @sillysp8 same here, this is a fucking dream for me :p

  • This video make me love Wilco and Fleet. I'm sold.

  • the band would be proud.

  • i've not words to explain the fantastic voice of this man.

i love them, they're one of the best in the world i think

  • Not as good as the band, but just such a classic that I still love it

  • i would usually frown on reviving old classics, no less performances from the last waltz (utter perfection is irrepeatable) but they did it so well, i think my heart swelled up over this.

  • Hopefully seeing them in February!

  • Wilco/Tweedy = The absolute best in music last 10 years

  • Great!!! I liked!!! Great as the Band?

  • they look like they're having such a good time, I love that

  • Amazing Richard Manuel imitation by Tweedy on the last verse. Spot on.

  • totally amazing :)

  • It's incredible how good Tweedy's voice has gotten live since he stopped smoking.

  • Comment removed

  • Would that I were in the audience for this. Just, just beautiful.

  • what a great song, and Fleet foxes and Wilco are great too..thanks

  • watch out for tears of genesis coming to a Box near you.

tweedy and the foxes and wilco are wonderful.

  • oh this looks fun

  • Awesome. I had no idea this existed. Perfect Song choice. "helpless" next?

  • Amazing!! Love both of those bands. And of course Bob Dylan.

  • Oh man. Fleet Foxes is one of the most skilled bands that I have seen in awhile.

  • This is simply orgasmic. I didn't expect that falsetto from Jeff!

  • Aargh, f*cking love this song! This cover is amazing. Love Wilco...

  • increible!!

  • amazing.

  • cool..

  • good to see decent music is still being played

  • superlativi!

  • wish i was there.....

  • wow thanks for posting! amazing!

  • Pretty great, but I like the Downwinders' version, recorded at the Hideout in Chicago even better. Jeff Smith has such a damn honest voice.

  • so cool

  • I have a mancrush on Jeff Tweedy.

And maybe Robin Pecknold, but Robin Pecknold looks like he doesn't bathe.

Either way, this cover is amazing.

    Perfect harmonization.

This show must have been incredible.

  • nice harmonies dude

  • anyone know the date of this show? and if it's being seeded anywhere?

  • I was there - I think it was August 16th 2008 or so

  • this isn't the last waltz

  • hAHAA! what an incredible concert this must have been!

  • this video is a gem!!

  • amazing!

  • record this...NOW! i mean it!

  • 2 of my favorite bands. This is the best.

  • gooood cover

  • poor Sky haha jeff tweedy and robin pecknold should do a record together haha, but seriously

  • Incredible.

  • holyyyy moses. fleet and wilco on the same stage! the universe should've imploded upon this concert. was this a music festival?

  • This is so awesome, totally agree I think I just JIMP!

  • basic hot-potato pattern

  • this is the band not dylan

  • Nah, Bob Dylan wrote and recorded this song prior to The Band's version, though they were his backup band when he did this song.

  • Right. Both words and music are officially by Bob Dylan, unlike some Band/Dylan songs, which have a member or two getting co-writing credit.

  • Actually Dylan was one of the writers of this song.

  • ummmm, this was done by Dylan and the band...anyone seen the last waltz??....though still pretty cool.......each member should have had a verse though (:

  • I was at this concert. Fleet Foxes said that they would possibly change their name to "Shadow Captain"

  • that's just what some guy yelled out in the crowd and the band just ran with it!

  • OH MY GOD...this video has everything!!!!

  • JIZZ IN MY PANTS

  • LMBO!!!!haha perfect!

  • i am speechless. i am without speech... unreal. i couldn't imagine how happy i would be if i had been there.

  • AMAZING!

  • Wilco + Fleet Foxes???

    What an amazing show.

I wish I could have been there!

  • Wilco + Fleet Foxes... + Dylan :)

  • damn good.

  • this is as good as things get

  • i love this. it may be a "dylan original" but it will always be a band song to me!

  • you all do know this is a Dylan original...not "the band"

  • i think they all know that theyre sayin it looks like a modern last waltz cuz of the fact that there are a shitload of awesome artists on stage all singin together like in the last waltz. that and the fact that its labeled Bob dylans i shall be released

  • you all know this is a dylan original...not "the band"

  • Can't hear this song and not think of Jeff Buckley...

  • looks like a modern Last Waltz

  • Jeff Tweedy is the man.

  • watching this video is like a dream come true, holy shit i wish i was there

  • this is so awesome. richard and rick would be proud.

  • FUHHHHHHK!

  • you can tell they're singing purely from the heart

  • I love Nels Cline but he looks a tad lost playing something so simple. Beautiful song, rest Richard and Rick's souls.

  • Is there any way to get a cleaner version of this, or did they just do it live?

  • so sweat, they are some men who are different coz you can listen to their roots, some tunes exist for 30 years but it sounds still like yesterday..

    love wilco and fleet foxes

  • Wow Tweedy can really sound like Manuel on that third verse. Good job.

  • the mors I listen to these videos of Fleet Foxes the more obvious the influences become Band, Beach Boys, CSNY etc. and they take these and make something new and wonderful. If only more young bands could do the same. There is nothing new under the sun but there is soul, emotion and talent and these young men have it all in heaps.

  • i am having last waltz flashbacks...the band and dylan...wilco and fleet foxes...coincidence, i think not...music transcended through generations, go to love it

  • If you'd like to hear a really really good version of this, go to:

    watch?v=0wRZanYaoGM

    It's amazing.

  • dear god

  • wilco is my favorite band butt jeff looks a little naked without a guitar, great version of dylan classic

  • i was just thinking the same thing!!

    kinda freaky actually! hah

  • oh my god i think the seventies folksy loving hippie in me just creamed itself

  • OMG.

  • Wow.

  • ahhhhh! i wanted to be there!

  • This song is beautiful

  • i love these artists!!

fleet foxes will be in italy saturday at rolling stone in milan!!!

    fantastic

  • I was at this show. What a great combo!!

  • Lions and Eagles covered this great song as well. There's no video so memories are the only evidence it happened.

    Big Up Tri-Cities

  • Que pasada, ¿donde fue este concierto?

  • el concierto fue spokane, WA

  • Tweedy's obviously for once getting a kick out of this which is nice to see.

  • you can get a recording of this collaboration on the wilco website, so long as you pledge to vote. it works for everyone tho, i am british but ticking the box got me the track.

  • Thanks a lot buddy! THAT was a clip worth watching.

  • I love Skylar's hand on Casey's shoulder and the little kiss at 1:45! So sweet!

  • I actually met Skylar. I saw them play at the Block Party in Seattle and the next day I was in a thrift store and him and his entourage came strolling in.

  • Gee that was a pretty version...the should do it in a studio

  • wow

two of my favorite bands covering another of my favorites

  • Yeah, I mean that combo is genius. whoever thought that up should be given a raise. I really loved it.

  • Awesome, Sean, thanks so much for posting this! Utterly gorgeous version of an incredible song.

  • I was there, and it nearly had me in tears. Wilco+Fleet Foxes=BLISS I love these guys. RIP Richard Manuel, Rick Danko.

  • I hated Jeff's voice when I first heard it, but now he's probably my favorite vocalist ever. Weird.

  • Amazing!

  • Oh my God,

    when Jeff do the falsetto

it feels like knocking on heavens door to ask for Richard to come out and sing along...

    That's awesome.

  • One of my most favorite Dylan/The Band songs. Great.

  • An awesome moment in cover song history. God, I wish I'd been there! Thanks for posting.

  • sigh just so good!

  • Such a cool video... thanks for posting!!

  • amazing!

  • important listening - *required*. thanks for sharing.. they should all buy a large, pink house up north.

  • "I Shall Be Released" was originally recorded by The Band, but yes, it was penned by Dylan. I was this filmed in Spokane? I was there and loved it very much. Thanks for posting it!

  • Yes it was filmed in Spokane!
