He isn't atheist just because he has an enlightened view of the world. He's atheist because he was abused and indoctrinated and naturally gravitated toward the indoctrination of an opposing view. I'm glad you posted this. I'm a person of deep faith, but you definitely bring up many points of how people use Christianity for their own gain and warp the true meaning of faith. I get so frustrated at people who claim to have faith and use it in hateful ways.

Humans have diluted the true meaning of faith. They've lost sight that it is a personal *choice* and that the Bible in no way condones coercing others into Christianity. There's no way that you can force someone to believe in something and no one has the right to shove scriptures down another person's throat. I am a Christian. I don't think people of other religions are going to Hell. I don't think athiests are going to Hell. I don't think religion is just a series of fairy tales to keep people in line (not to say that rulers don't use it that way).

There is truth in what you say. There are people who never question their faith and they try to force their way of thinking on others. However, you are simplifying over 6000 years of religion and putting all religious people in the same box.

I do think it's true. I just don't think it's literally true. I think it expresses ethical and moral truths. The Bible was never written to be literal historical truth. That's why all the gospels are different. Hell, that's why there are two different creation stories. What happened and what didn't happen is less important than how you should lead your life and treat other people.
