I have a 91' twin turbo. The darn lifters ticked on and off starting at about 30K. The motor rebuild was just finished Saturday and I was unable to find any better lifter than stock replacements. I guess it's good for about another 30k before it starts ticking? Oh well!

It was in all of the vids I have posted so far. The engine is coming out in a day or so and the T-28s I have are going back on as well as a little porting and freshening up of the engine.

In your blog, or maybe in one of the videos, you mentioned your custom set up sounds like the HKS prefab system. I've listened to basically all the Z32's with HKS exhaust on YT and they sound nowhere close to as cool as yours. You think it's due to crappy cameras on their part or because you're catless? They just don't don't have that low burble/grunt that your system has... Anyway, great blog write up and great car!

Thanks! Not sure on other peoples system. This one was made by my and the welders own two hands with no association to the HKS setup other than the minimal bends and can style exhaust. I would say theirs may not sound like mine because of my divorced downpipes, no cats like you said and just a free flowing exhaust from the turbos the where it exits. They probably just weld on a set of cans and call it a day. Thanks once again!

Thanks! IN this video they are Apexi Twin Chamber BOVs. They have a very clean crisp sound and are not known for leaking even at high boost. Very nice quality units.

That's what I was figuring. Just like the mkIV Supra, RX7 and 3000GT VR4 there they usually sell for a LOT more than they book for. They are collector cars and the buyers really set the price on these things. The only deals you find cheap are the people that get the cars for nothing and go by the NADA value to resale them, then the person who buys it turns around and sells it for twice as much lol

You just have to look around and really check the car out when you do find one. They are getting pretty hard to find in most places as well. Very nice cars though. It was worth the 6 month search for mine and very long drive to bring her home almost 4 years ago.

Sounds like a knock in the video but its actually ambient noise coming from a worn lifter that I need to get around to replacing soon. The bottom end is fine and dandy :)

I actually love the sound of the Apexi over the HKS ssq's. I all of my friends but me run either greddy type R BOVS or HKS ssqs(newer and older models) and I have heard several Zs like mine with them. I am just not big on the "bird chirp" noise.

That's cool man. I love the hks's. Really like that you dont have to adjust them at all for the amount of boost. But the apexi's were definately my second choice. Hey maybe you could help me with a little problem I am having. Ever since I just got my stage 3 mods, I have been having a problem with detonation. Figured it was because i needed the ecu to go with it. So I got that and it is still detonating a little. And that is even without the boost jets in. My EGR is deleted by the way. Any idea?

Right off the bat it sounds like you may be having some boost leak issues. Have you done a really extensive boost leak test on it yet? Also check your timing and possibly OHM test all of your injectors when you get a chance.

Well wouldnt it be running rich if it had a boost leak? From watching the gauge it seems to be holding boost fine. Though no I havn;t done a boost leak test at all. I have searched and searched, and I guess I am going to try colder plugs with a smaller gap. Can't believe it though. I havn't even put the boost jets in and it is detonating. I guess I could check the timing. Not really to sure how to do that though lol. I am still a rookie.

It will run rich but running lean isn't the only reason for detonation. Give it a good boost leak test before you do anything else and I promise you won't regret it.

Figured out what the problem was. When I had my motor put in, the jackasses that swapped it in, only had the passenger wastegate line hooked in the right spot. The driver side line was hooked to the tubing that goes down where my stock bypass valves were. I figured it out when i went to install the boost jets. So basically one of the turbos had nothing holding it back, except for the way the vg30dett works, how it feeds the boost to the opposite cylinder bank, to keep equilibrium.

Ahh that makes sense now. The detonation was probably coming from running one of the turbos ragged which would have caused excessive heat. I hope that solved the problem man!

If you are just buying the Apexi twin chamber in universal form (not a car specific kit) you will have to find a matching flange and have it professionally mounted to your intercooler piping somewhere between your throttle body and your intercooler. If its an Sr20DET swapped 240sx, you will probably mount it to the charge pipe directly off the turbo on the right side of the engine bay.
