No, it is a snail, a strombid. Crabs have legs, snails have a giant muscular foot - very easy to tell the difference.

Nah, I bought him at an aquarium shop. It's very rare for them to breed in captivity, but I have heard stories of people having some success.

Erk, no, I wouldn't use liquid paper! It might be toxic to the animals, or just flake off and contaminate the water anyway. The writing is lightly engraved in his shell, basically by scraping off the thin algae layer on the outside of his shell. It'll probably disappear soon once it grows back. Percy is an awesome snail ^_^
