How to power off an unresponsive VMware ESX virtual machine

Thanks for the video. One thing I've come across though, is that the diagnostic step (vmware-support -X wid) can take too long to run, particularly if the machine is mission-critical. We've usually just powered off within the VI client. Isn't that the equivalent of the hard parameter you're using at the end of this video?
