I find it really interesting how every guru has a different way of applying shadows.

You mostly always seem to use a wet pigment as a base, then the three seperate lid colors and a crease color.

Its to make to colours more vibrant or to give the colours a more golden feel :)

its a base and any color placed on top of it, will show up more vibrant

The metallic base will transfer -- it's going to intensify the eyeshadows, bring out the gold in any of the shades, and give it a smoother look.

You can definitely try it without, but it won't be 100% the same -- maybe a little faded or less intense :)
