Medicare, like welfare, would be fine as a safety net - but both need controls and incentives to get people OFF. Medicare should not be paying for a goddamn Hoveround, or for elective stuff.

The problem with these entitlement programs is they always grow and never shrink because we don't enact similar free market reforms to keep for-pay alternatives affordable.

We need to get government OUT of health care as much as possible.

I would like to see a plan for putting people who cannot get private insurance into Medicare - people with pre-existing conditions, who can't afford health care, etc.

We don't need 1500 pages of legalese to do that.

We need to keep throwing these bills into the fire until Congress can come up with something that does the minimum required. That should always be the government's goal: do what is necessary, understanding that must things aren't necessary.
