@bobmama1234 Look at the large majority of popular songs, they are all like that. Songs about love are the easiest to write because love is a common theme that everyone understands. Love lifts everyone up and shoots everyone down.

@bobmama1234 um... listen to A LOT of the rest of their stuff, and then listen to A LOT of other music. You will find that Cake writes about a lot more than love and lost love. You will also find that A LOT of music in the world is about love and lost love. Other songs by Cake: Nugget, Satan is My Motor, Race Car Ya Yas, The Distance, and MANY MANY MORE. I don't mean to lecture, but it's a common trend in music, as it has been since popular music began, to sing about love and the like.

@Swordmaster10 : I agree. I would call myself a pretty big Willie fan...and I've always liked Cake as well. But this cover takes the instrumental part of the song to a new level. And I have always loved Willie's unique vocal style...but the Cake singer is pretty awesome vocally in his own right. All adds up to a cover that (for many), is even better than the original. I'm currently loving Phosphorescent's full album of Willie covers too! As did Willie himself.

First and foremost, I adore Cake and Fashion Nugget is one of those rare albums where you can listen to it from cover to cover. But I agree, the original by Willie Nelson is better.

I just don't think they were serious when they covered Willie's version. In fact, it sounds like they stopped taking themselves seriously in the last third of the album. Listen to all the oh-yeahs, they start to sound sarcastic later on. I think this is what makes the album so good: no pretence, just fun.
