  • Seriosly has any MADD people been to a college nobody is drinking less they just binge

  • riddle me this, why in gods name do we allow 18 year olds to breathe in cancerous, radioactive smoke into their lungs at will, but deny them the right to drink by saying they could have alcohol poisoning? either raise the tobacco sales age or lower the drinking age. it's that simple!

  • "drinking less because of the 21 minimum drinking age." ummmmmm...... how can you honestly believe that crap. If anything they drink more because they don't know when the next time they can get it will be. The drinking age should be 18 in my opinion. 21 is not a realistic age to expect someone to have their first drink. So essentially what it does is turn....what....90+% of people into criminals?! Being an adult is about being able to make your own decisions. 18 is an adult.

  • Its funny at 18 you can purchase Tobbaco,Firearms,Porn and you can get married, go to war, sign contracts and everything else you can think of but you cant buy a drink? thats fucked!

  • Memeo To Brian Demers......

You are a member of a FRAUDULENT organization that at best supports of law that is in DELIBERATE VIOLATION of the 10th , 14th, and 21 Amendments of The United States Constitution!

    MOVE TO IRAN OR CUBA!!!!

  • The current drinking age (seemingly and does) is meant to discredit 18-20 year old as adults, maybe they should raise the military draft age to 21 and OH! but they'd never do that! Current age of 21 encourages binge-drinking in teens and underground drinking. Alcohol is to general of substance, they need to lower the age 18. Gee, in my homeland I'm 19 and legally adult yet cannot drink, this is my homeland and supposed to be a free country.

  • People who support the 21 law don't really have the right to complain about the government getting too involved in their personal lives "for their own good". All the time I hear older adults complaining that the government is too intrusive, example with the seat belt laws, anti smoking in public laws. But then they support the discrimination against adults 18-20 because its "for our own good". That is just hyprocritical.

  • why is he calling 18 year olds kids? are they not legally adults in ever term off the word apart from been able to drink

  • why is he calling 18 year olds kids? are they not legally adults in ever term off the word

  • If your old enough to go to war and die for your country your old enough to sit down and have a fucking beer PERIOD.

  • the only thing that bothers me about this is the lack of free will. If you are legally an adult at 18 why do we need to have the goverment protect us from our selves . reguardless of the dangers alcohol may cause it should remain a choice for the individual not a group of emotion guided people(MADD).

  • Dear Brian, I am 19 years old. I am, however, about to go and drink with my friends in their room here at my university. Also, I travel abroad quite often, e.g. Canada and Europe and I drink over there as well in bars, clubs, and pubs. Now, dear Brian, it is not my fault you probably have no social life and maybe have been jeered at by your equals, but that doesn't mean you can go and support a law which takes away my right to make a rightful judgment for myself. Go and fuck yourself.

  • Oh BULLSHIT! What about Amsterdam and Germany and most of Europe. We have the most crime in the world, and our drinking age is 21. WTF is this tard talking about, if less pressure and restriction is applied, then more responsible decisions are available to be made. This anti lowering the drinking age to 18 is a joke. Lower it, 18 year old "minors" pay taxes, go to war, smoke, vote, work, drive, have sex and do everything as an adult, but not drink? How can that make sense?

  • I am from New Zealand and I can't believe that my tiny country got mentioned in this debate about drinking. Our drinking problem here was not accurately conveyed by this 19 year old. Sure we do have a culture of drinking here, but it it across the board. Not just teenagers. It's it all ages. This is why our government has consistently voted to keep our drinking age at 18 on numerous occasions since 1999. I think its only a matter of time before America lowers its drinking age.

  • Brian the madd fag LOL

  • thats not true, here in england we have one of the strictest drinking rules in europe and yet we also have the greatest amount of binge drinking in europe aswell. and countries lik france who have relaxed drinking age rules have the lowest binge drinking.

lol and by the way they dont sell alcohol in mcdonalds unfortunately

  • NOONE finds it hilarious that a 19 year old twat who, based on his own principles, has probably never had an alcoholic beverage is debating on this? Nice ears..

  • What if we put the drinking age at 18, BUT

    the driving age at 21.

18-20 year olds drink anyways giving them 3 years of drinking without even having the option of driving would prevent a lot more traffic deaths than stopping them from drinking.

And think of the public transportation this will encourage and then they'll know how to use it and develop habits using public transportation. It would help the environment and lower our nation's dependence on foreign oil.

  • We're not saying drinking and driving is good -- by all means, it's not. But, we can start educating young adults better about alcohol consumption other than just handing them a "buy booze now" card when they turn 21, they can drink more safely. Most people will agree that drinking in a bar is a lot safer than drinking at a college party: you have a bartender that can cut you off, can get a cab, and people that know to call 911 if something's wrong. Why take the safeness away from all adults?

  • hahaha lol im sorry for you tatomuck18. Its crazy that you can die protecting the USA but you cant drink!!!! that is awkward!

  • Firstly madd if madd wants to prevent drunk driving they should try to push for more public transportation. Why does nyc have almost non existent drunk driving? Simple, none of the residents drive.

Although public transportation won't solve all problems, if we adopt the european model and impose harsh penalties for DUI the rates would drastically fall.

A question I have not seen madd answer and one that i would like answered is why can a 19 yr old be tried as an adult for underaged drinking?

  • It's complete nonsense that the current drinking age is 21. Hey, you're an "adult" at 18, BUT you have to wait another 3 years before you can buy & consume alcoholic beverages--sounds like you're not an adult until 21! But wait, you can operate a vehicle at 16 (even younger based on the state & circumstance) that has a killing potential even greater--hmmm, sounds like something an "adult" should only be able to do. You can join the military at 17 with parental consent. Now I'm all confused!

  • That 19 year old kid seems to be very intelligent and responsible for his age. Good for him. However, I still disagree with him.

  • haha what a fag muffin

  • yeah huge dbag

  • BS that guy Brian.........

  • im glad im from puero rico!!!! we drink at 18 woohoo!!

  • If the drinking age has saved so many lives then why do we have such a higher rate of drunk driving accidents and alcohol-related fatalities than Europe where the age is lower?

Correlation does not prove causation. MADD assumes that any decrease in death after the drinking age was raised was due 2 that. But at the same time there were changes in enforcement of drunk driving laws & > awareness of the drunk driving problem.

Why do many of us Americans ignore the lessons from other countries?

  • thank you, they never talk about safety belt enforcement and safer cars in general as well. or the designated driver something that didnt exist in 1980.

although europeans dont need to drive to get to a bar as often bc of a much better pulic trans system srry to discredit that

  • Thats another thing. U never hear MADD talking about the need for more public transportation. If they were serious about decreasing drunk driving theyd be adamantly in favor of more public transportation.

  • YUP!!! One reason the numbers are so low in Europe. They expect people to be self-responsible over there & if you aren't, it's your life, & if you kill someone else, BIG consequences! Another is that beer & wine, generally, is just another drink there. There's no stigma attacked to it as it is over here. Also when you grow up with it around you like that, it's not such a big deal. 16 is usually the drinking age when there is one, but it's usually not as strict as over here too.

  • and you wanna add to that problem making it legal for those kids to drink? You want more 15 and 14 year olds getting ACCESS to alcohol? I hope your kidding!

  • @tatomuck18

I said we should put the drinking age at 18 not 14 or 15.

If you're worried about 18 year olds buying for 14 or 15 year olds why not just set the buying age at 21 but the drinking age at 18? Then 18 year olds can legally get their 21 year old friends to buy for them but 14 & 15 year olds won't be able to use their 18 year old friends to buy for them.

There are states that sell cigarettes only to 19 yr olds but where 18 yr olds are allowed to smoke based on the same logic.

  • I wanna beat that prick's ass. He probably still sucks mommy's tit.

  • If 18 year olds don't have the right to drink a beer than they shouldn't be treated as adults in court, they should be charged as minors.

  • Susan B. Anthony would beg to differ. She broke laws that discriminated against women, and INSISTED that she be tried as a man. That's courage.

Honestly, I would want the full force of the law against me, so as to become a martyr.

  • You can be charged AS AN ADULT at ANY AGE if the crime is severe enough! You cant rent a car until 25 or become president until 35. I dont see you complaining about that! Theres different ages for different things.

  • Respond to this video... It is high time for a major overhaul of our Juvenile Justice System!

  • @scata99 And they also shouldn't be able to enter the army, or smoke, or vote, or have sex (at average consensual age).

  • no, im drinking more at 18 because knowing the fact that its illegal makes it more fun. keep it at 21..i dont care because its not going to matter, every person that isnt a loser drinks under the table and behind closed doors at colleges when underage....

  • Drinking at 18 is dangerous but aslo going to war at 18 is dangerous. We are not drinking less because of the drinking age law of 1984. People have nonthing better to do than to make stupid laws.

  • FUCK YAH WE'RE HAVEN SEX AND FUCK YAH WE'RE DRINKEN!!! THATS ALL I DO EXCEPT BREATH, EAT, AND GO TO SCHOOL MAN........ NEWZEALAND??? LOL thats a small country! 50% increase for alcohol poisoning? Dude the population of newzealand is like 10 (im exagerating omg im gonna get torn a new one for that comment by some angry newzealandian!).. ACTUALY GETTING A LICENSE TO DRINK SOUNDS LIKE A VERY GOOD IDEA!!! it should test your maturity and knowledge of the risks of drinking too much.. i like that!!!

  • i think if you believe that there is less underage drinking necause of the legal age then you don't know any underage kids...i think if its made legal kids will be alot smarter about it and will be able to do it with adults who know about drinking

  • Drinking age should be 13 or none at all here's why: I've been to Europe & they don't seem as anal about alchohol. In Ireland the age is 18 but unofficially if you can hold a pint you can drink. Italy has beer at McDonalds & I believe there might not even be a drinking age there & in France. I assume Germany is lax with whatever laws they got. Most parents would know of their 13 yr old was drinking & thats years before they learn to drive by then they'll be used to it & it will be no big deal.

  • I would support MADD fully if what they did was only fighting against drunk driving, but not if they go after underage drinkers.

  • They are a temperance group, they want to ban all alcohol period, they just use the emotional mask to say they are against drunk driving.

  • drinking at any age CAN be dangerous! What a little schmuck this young kid is!

  • my feeling is that we need consistency. whether that means that the drinking age be lowered or the age to vote, join the military, and legally become an adult go up, doesn't matter to me. but it's hardly fair to enforce a bias based on these ages.

  • here you go son this a machine gun. now what i want you to do is take this gun a point it at the crazy arabs that want to butcher you and blow your head off. "why thank you mr goverment can i go have a beer?" what a beer you can't drink thats much to dangerous for you mr miller lite will kill you

  • When you still call legal adults teenagers and treat them as such. Then welll. Expect stupid behavior, but once you are a legal adult you are a legal adult. Otherwise raise everything else to 25 and give me an increase in my childhood because that sounds kinda awesome!!

  • theres pros and cons to both sides of the arguments.

  • lower it, educate it, supervise it

  • fuck MADD

  • You know what I love about this debate? It's a totally bi-partisan issue. Both the left and the right can get behind or stand against this issue. I personally believe the drinking age should be 18.

  • blah blah blah if you can send young men to teach them how to kill and shoot a gun god forbid if they have a beer that might put there lives endanger of course i am sure there lives are more safe at war

  • Ok, who owns my body? I do. Who has the ultimate control over my life? I do. Therefore these laws prohibiting me from putting something into my body are invalid and should be changed.

  • I agree with you it's my life so I should be able to drink at the age of 18.

  • Many members of MADD want to go back to prohibition. You cannot trust their statistics.

In this country, drinking behaviors are learned behind closed doors with other underage people and drinking in moderation is not learned until usually after the age of 21.

Besides, the law isn't stopping anyone. I even had friends who made hooch in their closet when I was a teenager.

  • that 19 yr old looks artificial

  • bullshit ,italy has no drinking age,its one of the reasons i love my country. i got into an american boarding school, what am i going to do? i mean im 15 and every friday im off to the pubbing or clubbing with my friends. the really funny thing is, that people drink less here than in the USA just proves how stupid your drinking laws are. i mean what does the american government expect 16 to 21 years olds to have parties with? sprite and cokes? all you need are good DUI laws and youll be fine.

  • I agree! I've been to italy, France & Ireland & they aren't so anal about this stuff. America boasts it has so much freedom but it doesn't. There should be no drinking age whatsoever but the gutless politicians will never endorse it & too many groups like MADD are too hellbent on trying to force their opinions on the rest of us. My daughter will have wine with her dinner as soon as she's old enough to eat at the table & I'll bet I'll never have a problem with her handling alchohol responsibly.

  • Im 18 and I control my body if I able to go and fight in a war and die in a war I should be able to drink beer.

  • We are looking out for you making sure you and your idiot friends dont kill themselves and drive drunk killing others. We are trying to make it safer for you. You should thank us!

  • Your name is M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). So you shouldn't talk shit about underage drinking. Change your name to something else dumbass. Safer for me? I don't drink and drive. MADD just wants to make beer an illegal drug but it will never happen you fucking dumbasses.

  • Why Lower the drinking age they drink anyhow no law stops them from drinking anyhow!

  • This guy is 19 years old and he's in MADD? Haha what a loser!

  • WHat? hes gonna have a good future.

  • HAHAHA "theyre drinking out there, but they are drinking less" what a retard. fuck this shit they need to put me on there ill tell them how much kids are really drinking im 19 i think from personal experience i know that nearly everyone who isnt mormon drinks or has drank, what a dumbass

  • This is the worst kind of MADD supporter, Brian Demers. Obviously, he has been raised in a sheltered environment. He has no life experiences and he was brought up by the MADD propaganda and false information. Does he realize that some people, like myself, had to go to war when I was his age, while he gets tucked in by mommy every night?

Some veterans like myself were ejected from bars for underage drinking.

MADD has no right! They do not have the right to tell me that I was too young to drink

  • MADD wasn't telling you that you were too young to drink. The United States Government, consisting of officials elected by the American people, was. MADD merely said it might be a good idea.

  • I don't think anyone here is questioning the sacrifices soldiers have made to keep our country safe. A 50% increase in hospitalization for alcohol poisoning sounds like something that makes a country less safe. I am thankful everyday for anybody who has honorably carried out military service & will do my part to support the things that I believe will keep this country a safe place for them to return to.

  • WEll have education of alcohol. Be a good fuckingg parent. Maybe then we wouldn't have that issue.

  • Then let's create a big brother state. We prohibit alcohol completely, ban McDonald's and all those other unhealthy food places, require routine doctor's visits, dictate the content of every single meal, ban tobacco and caffeine, allow only mass transportation (private transportation is too dangerous, ban all private weapon ownership, and require very specific daily exercise routines. We will install hidden cameras to guarantee compliance. After all, freedom is useless if it kills you!

  • MADD wasn't telling you that you were too young to drink. The United States Government, consisting of officials elected by the American people, was. MADD merely said it might be a good idea.

  • hmmmmm

I dont know if I can trust you with a machine gun AND a bottle of Jack Daniels! Just because your in the military doesnt mean you should be drinking.

  • MADD are nothing more than a bunch of old fucking cunts who need a hobby. That Demers guy is just a douchebag.

  • seriously

  • i am part of DAMM... Drunks Against MADD Mothers

  • haha that kid got owned

  • BRIAN DEMERS YOU SIR ARE A FAG

theres no fucking way hes not drinking, he.ll probably hit up a bar later with all the MADD moms and buy some guiness to drown his sell out ass

  • Anyone notice the video footage they show in between the interview footage? Obvious Fox News bias.

  • What bias? Chill the fuck out god damn. It's about the drinking age not how "RIGHT WING" fox news is. god damn

  • I agree, Fox News, in general, is biased. But is the drinking age a politically polarized issue? I would think that, if anything, a republican would support a state's right to choose it's drinking age, as the national 21 law is an example of big government imposing it's power on everybody.

  • most people just want to keep it because lowering it is a fallacy apparently and raising it is a fallacy apparently. Pretty much Americans don't have the balls to do anything. They really do think 21 is normal. It's only been a law for 2 fucking decades in this country's history.,

  • John McCardell is my new hero! We currently have the same drinking age as such enlightened countries as Oman and the United Arab Emirates. Down with the prohibitionist, paranoid, puritannical schoolmarms at MADD! Brian Demers, being 19, is a pussy-ass, mama's boy sellout!

  • thats why drinking age is not going to be lowered because of immature people like you.

  • John McCardell, you are my hero. Brian you have no argument against lowering the drinking age. One country, Australia, that happens to be an island against the rest of the world that drinks at 16 or 16 is a weak point. Prohibition didnt work then and its not working now. F U momma's boy!

  • MFAGPS

Mothers for a Global Police State

  • The best argument that MADD could come up with was to quote statistics from New Zealand? Wow! They're really clutching onto straws now.

  • well new zealand does have a pretty bad drinking culture.

  • The reason you would see more ER visits due to alcohol poisoning when the drinking age is lowered is because kids whose friends drink too much are actually TAKING them to the ER because it's not illegal for them to drink now. Before, many underage kids who drank and had a friend with alcohol poisoning would not take them to the ER for fear of legal ramifications. Lowering the drinking age will save more lives.

  • I refuse to believe that majority of people under 21 are stupid enough to put not getting in trouble over the lives of their friends. If that were true, I can't imagine what the terrible consequences of giving people like that the legal right to use alcohol might be.

  • AND YOU WANT THOSE KIDS TO HAVE EASIER ACCESS TO THE ALCOHOL???

Lowering the drinking age only makes to easier to those kids to have access to buy it. YEah, thats good aint it!

  • Thats because the kids are too young to drink. Their bodies couldnt handle it and their brain wouldnt tell them to stop so they DIED!

  • that kids just pissed cause he was never invited to any partys

  • @skeletol lol, I bet he'd be such a lightweight too, prbly get hammered after one shot, hahaha.

  • taht kid that said he was 19 i a faggot

  • What's gonna stop an 18-20 yr old from

Canada border states from going to Canada,

and Mexico border states from going to

    Mexico to drink?

  • The argument against lowering the drinking age is very weak, the US needs to end the hypocritical bullshit.

  • Of course it's weak! That doesn't mean anything's gonna change! Just like the debate over legalizing marijuana. There's really no good reason not to legalize it. Oh well, doesn't stop anybody anyway.

  • Actually, I may be wrong about the parental permission/forfeiture without just cause statement I made. Choose Responsibility's site says:

"Any holder of the provisionary license will be suspended immediately upon citation for—and forfeited upon conviction of—any violation of a state's alcohol laws."

but nothing else about losing the license.

  • Choose Responsibility only supports parentally-authorized "learner permits" for high school graduates. Since when are non-graduates less of adults than other adults under 21, and since when do those adults require parental permission to do anything?

They could propose a pilot drinking permit program to show that young people can drink responsibly if they're legally allowed to, but that program shouldn't be their central goal and philosophy like it is.

  • The more restrictions you put on people's lives the more they are going to rebel agaisnt them.

  • God DAMN I hate the term "young adult", What happened to equal under the law? an adult is an adult is an adult! What's got to end here is the condescension towards people under 25, get rid of that and I bet the laws would change and become fair.

  • I use young adult to counter MADD's use of "minor" for people under 21 when I want to show that I'm only talking about adults who can't legally drink.

But I completely agree. Even Choose Responsibility only supports alcohol "learning permits" which can be revoked by the adult's parents (but wait, aren't 18-20 year-olds adults?) or by the police at anytime without just cause...

  • ...Also, they'd require parental permission to get in the first place. This would be difficult since only 1/3rd of American adults support a lower drinking age.

You could argue that Choose Responsibility thinks this is all they could get but they could get a real lower drinking age by continually bringing this issue to the public eye and crushing MADD like they did in this video.

  • He has a good point though. Treat youth like infants and that's how they'll act.

  • I'm 20 and I've gotten in a lot of trouble with that shit, as have most of my friends. Part of me wishes that it would disappear altogether. Lowering or raising it won't do shit.

  • Interesting enough, a 19 year old is for preventing the drinking age to change to 18, while under the age of 21 I may add, and it is the adult who is for the promotion to decrease the current minimum age limit. The argument goes both ways, but releasing the law now can cause chaos amongst many age categories, including the ones under teenage, more than it does now. In my opinion, do it and see what happens.

  • That "saved ten's of thousands of people's lives" thing is pure bullshit. Canada had the same drop in drunk driving deaths and never touched their drinking age(which is 18 to 20) MADD is just a neo-prohibitionist group.

  • "MADD is just a neo-prohibitionist group."

I agree with you 100% The former founder of MADD Candy Lightner said the same exact thing

  • MADD can kiss my ass. I think everyone who is tired of all the bullshit should send them a loud go fuck yourselves!!! and the guy that is speaking for MADD needs to get a life and go get laid..

  • its not about health its about freedom. Its the "land of the free"... right?

  • yeah and you think its FREEDOM to drive drunk and kill people. Maybe we should make murder legal too?

  • my comment was referring to laws based on drinking age. i dont think it should be legal to drive drunk as that endangers others, i was saying people should have the right to endanger them self's if thats what they want to do with their lives. did you read every single comment on this thing? i wrote that comment 2 years ago dude.

  • brian from MADD is a fag

  • When I was in the Army I drank at age 18. If I was adult and mature enough to enlist in the Army at age 18 then why am I not mature enough to drink an alcoholic beverage?

  • Even if you're not in the military you're still of fighting age, so that argument applies to non-military adults too.

  • I can't see why any reasonable person would be able to say having the drinking at 21 instead of 18-19 is doing anything but creating more problems.

  • Fuck MADD....her every one in MADD....I Killed your fam

  • im from down under (australia) and our drinking age is 18 woooo sucked in U.S

  • I thought that MADD stood for mothers against drunk driving....not creepy 19 year old balding rapist guy.

  • It just shifts the statistics upwards. once they turn 21 they get piss fucking drunk. Some die from that, and some lack education. People are drinking MORE because of this increase of drinking age... Look at Germany.. Take a notice at the fact that there german kids dont get piss drunk every week.. Only Americans do. Due to this binge drinking culture created because of this high drinking age of 21.

  • Make beer legal at 18

  • I like how Brian From M.A.D.D. isn't even olden to drink and probally has never but yet he wants to talk about it.

  • Yeah I know! I fuckin hate people who have something to say about the substance when they themselves have never done it! The arrogance in those people drives me nuts!

  • This is damn right I am a 19 year old serving in the armed services. Im getting deployed in january I should be able to have a beer legally before I deploy!

  • they need to just lower it already. so what if there is more fatalities, maybe kids will learn from that, and if not well natural selection. :)

  • If you lower the drinking age, more fatalities. If you raise it to 21, less fatalities. So by that token, they may as well raise it to 65 or some crazy number.

  • If you lower it .. That does not mean higher fatalities. The problem with this drinking age is that a conservative shit storm has allowed laws such as this to pass. People who are raised to not even consider drinking alcohol. Is more tempted to do so, and do it in secret since its illegal for them to do it. The binge drinking culture was created due to the insanely high drinking age.

  • waaaaaaaaay in the uk limit 18 unlucky yanks

  • What that tool of a kid neglect to tell everyone is that most of those who are binge drinking in New Zealand are Americans.

  • who wouldnt binge if they could just have a beer or two at home. if it was legal, they might actually be able to test their limits at home without having to find out the hard way

  • Is that true? Wouldn't that make that statistic more relevant, not less relevant? What a tool!

  • tat kid who said they were drinking less is spouting off bullshit/....

  • I'm a Midd kid, and I loathe that loser (Liebowitz) who replaced McCardell. Lieb should step down in favor of anyone, even a cockroach would be superior to that cowardly, misogynist pig who doesn't even care for the students of his college. There's never been a college president as good as McCardell... never! Even now that he's not president anymore, each year he's doing more good for Middlebury on the sidelines than Liebowitz will do in his entire pathetic life. Johnny Mac all the way!

  • MADD is a bunch of hysterical prohibitionist. If they had their way, no one would ever drink.

  • I lived in Germany during my high school years. I was able to buy alcohol at 16yo, and people there were MUCH more responsible than the idiots in America, where I go to college...

  • How does MADD convince a 19-year-old to support their fascist agenda to begin with?

  • Regardless of your position, why did MADD send a 19-year old to debate the former president of a college??

Or was this FOX news' decision? Straw dummies, anyone?

  • Whats wrong with 18 year old kids drinking? He acts like drinking itself is the bad thing.

  • name one study!

  • He's probably referring to the study that showed that the earlier someone starts drinking, the more likely they are to exhibit problematic drinking, with a "rapid dropoff" at 21. What those studies don't reveal, though, is that this is simply a function of people starting drinking *before they're "allowed" to.* If the drinking age were lowered, then so would this threshold, and Americans would as a whole be more responsible drinkers.

  • American culture is very repressive and we tend to want to forbid more than allow.
