  • Wonderful song - written by Gene Clark - with a little help from his friends McGuinn and Crosby!

  • @cupovtean1suga Nothing could ever be as powerful as the studio version. I remeber my dad had a collection of records incluiding the entire BeeGee collection, but only one record form the byrds. He made me listed to 8 miles high, and at the time I didn't get it. That was a lot of years ago. Last year I looked up 8 miles high on the internet for the first time since, and could not believe that I didn't fall in love with it the first time. Most powerful psychedelic song I know.

  • Love the "Asturius" opening ,wonder what Segovia would say! legendary song, brilliantly played.

  • Wish I could be in Woodbridge. How great he still is.

  • Roger will in Woodbridge, NJ on Wednesday May 4th, 2011. The series is called Music On main Street and will also feature Dave Mason among others. See Woodbridge Arts NJ dotcom for details

  • Said in an interview that he was trying to get some Ravi Shankar sitar type effect on the 12 string for EMH mixed in with some freeform.

  • I heard Crosby used up his second liver already .

  • The best..Mcguinn , Clark and Hillman (RIP Gene Clark love him) Byrds no one plays a 12 string Rickenbacker like Roger, and a 7 string WTF...when are you in San Diego

  • Really wonderful performance :)

  • Way to go Roger !

    Nice stuff !

  • i think i get it... he doubled the G string like it was a twelve tring...A SEVEN STRING GUITAR---huh? too much for most people won't know silly

  • well I like the piece but its probably a better sounding song on his rickenbocker 12- because you have a bit more sustain and the notes are ringing longer ( but even so it can sound a bit muddled) - maybe he tries to do a bit too much with it still a great rendition.

not a real easy song to make sound right with just one acoustic. I always liked the big booming bass intro but roger foregoes that for the more classical entrance. his song his trip.

  • buajjjjjj!!!!!!! muy mala copia a Paco de Lucia, no solo estan mal los tiempos de ejecucion, sino que parece tocado por una maquina sin sentido

  • "How is this rock n roll ? " ... Hmmm.. you had to be there to know... I know... I was there.

  • NOT a Classical, just a Classic!!!!

  • knk95775.... laughs... first off thats not a classical guitar...Nor is the peace he's playing. This guy makes more money farting in Bm in one day then make in 10 yrs... so unpuff your little boy chest and be nice

  • since when was that a classical guitar?

  • Roger incorporates a classical guitar piece by Ibanez as interpreted by a classical guitar player, Andres Segovia, so you want to know what this has to do with classical guitar? I kind of agree that it doesn't in the sense that Roger pretty much destroys the classical piece trying to blend it with the old rock song 8MH. Apples and oranges.

  • @knk95775 piece by albeniz..................

  • God Bless you Roger.

  • I'm going to see him tomorrow in Minneapolis. I can't wait.

  • This made my collection of favorites....I hope it made yours....

  • This is so amazing.... great video, thanks.

  • A blazing performance by a high-flying Byrd. Roger seems to get better with age, still a resonant voice coupled to marvelous guitar work. The textures of this song recall visions and rhapsodies from the musician's inner soul.

  • I could'nt have said it better ! Absolutely T-R-U-E !!!

  • I really appreciated this comment. This is how I feel every time I see Roger perform. He's in a good place.

  • This is Brilliant - Keep going Roger - youre the Man !!! Looking forward to your Glastonbury performence this weekend....

Wonder how things with David Crosby are going these days ?

  • @gaughanpaul

David Crosby's enjoying his second career as a sperm donor.

  • @chrisb1953 hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is that a bit of Spanish Caravan by The Doors at the beginninng?

  • Asturias - Isaac Albeniz

  • Sublime.

  • Amazing, excellent, beyond wonderful! Roger McGuinn is a national treasure.

  • It's a D-42 custom seven string. He has a matching twelve string too.

  • if this is a martin he is playing why is the headstock and logo different from the martin's i've seen?

  • It's a different, more expensive model. Probably a D45.

  • If I may comment........is that his sig. guitar? If so, it may be a model HD7 w/double G. Has a rather (tight) sound.

  • Is this a statement that Asturias and 8 miles high are similiar? Bizarre.

  • More like a statement that they're in the same key, and merge well...

  • He was among those afraid of loosing their ground, but he's still standing and flying like a byrd.

  • Roger is the man!

  • a master ------

  • All those tens of thousands of hours of practice paid off, didn't they? Very, very nice.

  • an $8000 Martin with a 7th string- can make an average player sound exceptional and Makes Roger truly brilliant.

and alot easier to keep tuned than a 12 string and not as much tension on the guitar neck.

  • Geeez

This is the guy from the byrds

    The classic voice

  • D'OH!!!!

  • Sorry, this was a reply to a comment down there that says "The guy in the Bryds did it better". Oh my....

  • Awesome! There is nothing like an acoustic version of a great song!

  • Amazing....

  • incredible.......

  • Asturias/Leyenda morphs into Eight Miles High . . . amazing

  • jeeeeez

  • That was beautiful, ive never heard this before.

  • He's still spellbinding. Love the live version on Untitled - blows your socks off!

  • Excellent

  • Agree.......

  • which string is the 7th string ? what about the tuning?

Great flatpicking for sureand great song too

  • the third string (G) has a harmonic string which is tuned one octave higher, otherwise the tuning is standard (EADGgBe)

  • Thank you very much. Never heard before about such a guitar and such a tuning, i thought the 7th string would be a low B.

  • I always thought that song was very heavy- listening to it made me feel uneasy and high- like a peyote trip !

and the Martin with the extra string- how cool is that..the ring of a 12 string without the hassle.

and of course some fine pickin by roger. very fine indeed.

  • Roger (Jim) McGuinn, the one who inspired my true love and appreciation of guitar music. Magic fingers. He's been in better voice, but I've never seen him play finer than he does in this vid. Is that a D-28 Martin in his hands?

  • Are you alternate picking or using your fingers? Difficult to tell

  • great!!!! nothing more to say...'cept thanks!

  • What a great intro! It is actually a doubled D string. I've seen that Martin model in a guitar store in Edmonton, Alberta. Really cool vid of Roger. Thanks for posting!

  • His voice still sounds great.

  • Yes. He plays his songs lower than normal. But I don't care at all, it's just a brilliant piece of music.

  • the roger mcguinn martin with the double G string

finally I get to see him play it!

  • He's so fine!

  • Nice try Golden Earring.

  • Golden Earring wonderful band. Love them!

  • Amazing, beautiful, breathtaking! This is one of the best things I've ever heard.
