@atourdeforce He was one of my early influences and when I go to the neck pickup and roll off the tone, it's almost like going into Eric Clapton mode (...sometimes Santana). That said, I think I got that riff from Paul Chapman of UFO...When It's Time To Rock off the album Making Contact.
@Stevespeeze I love Vox amps but couldn't use say an AC15 or an AC30 for every situation like I can this and while I like their modeling amps better than any other company, it's not like using a real all tube amp...and this one is so versatile...one of these days I'll do an actual demo of the amp to show its' range.
its to keep the sustain up and not have to repluck the string. i do it all the time and it also introduces feed back. it dosent hurt the guitar because your not really hitting it like hard as it looks like he is but he ain't. just a tip that all not meaning to be a jerk
Thanks...they are different animals...and I like them both...check out my "2006 Gibson USA SG Special Demo". It was shot with the same camera...so the same lame sound/picture quality. A Special (at least this kind) is basically a stripped down Standard...essentially the same except for the window dressing and the pickups...it should give you a pretty good idea.
i hate how so many people with ES-335's only play blues, even when they have the distortion on. That doesn't really show us the full capability of this guitar. I have one, and I have to say its actually very, very versatile. From country, to blues, to rock and roll, and even metal. This guitar goes all the way.
Yes, I did just say metal (and shred to some extent) Its very sensitive even without distortion, and with distortion, its easy to do pinched harmonics. I totally recomend this gutiar.
have you a video playin some metal with this guitar?
i'm thinking i could buy one, i play metal but i also like blues, jazz, classic rock, punk (like sex pistols and the clash, etc) and if it stand distortion it's far beyond cool!
the ES-335 however, does get alot of feedback, so either use a silencing pedal (kills feedback), or just keep your fingers on the strings. (the feedbacks only if you play metal)
Basicly, for it's distortion you can go from guns and roses, blink182, greenday, the ramones, all the way to slipknot...
the neck pickup is really warm... be careful, nomatter how much distortion you put on it, it sounds very calm and fat. Bridge is aggressively warm
Howard you are an amazing guitar player! This video is amazing and for some reason, even though you've done it before it really stuck out to me how you can play with and without the pick WITH the pick in your hand. I would have dropped it.You really know how to play them blues dont cha.haha. NICE.

What kind of pickups do you have in this 335?
Sounds awesome, btw.
stratman3511 3 years ago
Thanks! I never removed them to check...I believe that they were stock though...
greengtrs 3 years ago
Is there any other way you could check for me?
Sorry for being so demanding, but they sound fantastic and I'd really like to know. :)
stratman3511 3 years ago
It's not my guitar anymore...I looked through all my old pictures and even found a copy of my eBay listing...nothing...
You could contact Gibson and ask them what pickups would have come stock in a 2000 335 reissue...hope that helps and works for you!
greengtrs 3 years ago
Pickups, if stock, were '57 Classics.

So are you saying I did good or that I didn't get heavy enough...I'll take it as helpful constructive criticism.
