I just want to say Thank You all.... For the many kind comments and support you have offered me.
Although I am still crying when reading these comments it's a good crying - and heals my heart to know that not everyone thinks foxes are nasty creatures - and most importantly that there are so many people who actually care about our wildlife and have no wish for it to be destroyed.
If you love foxes please google and sign the online petitions to stop the repel of the fox hunting act, and have you
I would give all my possessions to turn back time and not leave her at the vets for treatment, because I know in my heart that she would have had less seizures at home where she was comfortable. I hate myself for leaving her - but after all the vets are supposed to know what best for them.
I was horrified a few weeks after she died when I found out about a TV program that had sent someone undercover at MediVet (the emergency vets we had to take her to) branches - and found awful treatment of a
I am not going to be able to stop myself this year from driving all of the back roads in case I come upon a dead vixen who might have baby's who need help!
On one hand I really want a fox again because they are such amazing and interesting creatures - even if they are harder work than all other pets put together!
But on the other, even if by grace or luck I had this one in a thousand chance again - it wouldn't be her, and it would feel too much like trying to replace her.
The majority of the video was taken after she had been with me for a week or so - around 4 1/2 weeks at a guess - when she was first rescued we think she was only 3 1/2 weeks because her back legs were very underdeveloped like she hadn't been walking around for very long.
She was so cute and used to almost tip over with her back legs raising off the ground whenever she put her head down toward the floor.
I remember how relieved I was when she learnt to lap at water/milk - and I am sure she lear
Awww... RIP Kiara xx Such a lovely natured animal and so cute :) Sorry for your loss xxx Im in tears, This is soo sad. You done a very kind thing by taking care of her as she would have been lost in the wild without her mother at the age she was. You done an excellent job and I am very happy for what you have done. She is now in a safe place and in paradise. xxx
I know everyone else has said it, but I'm sorry for your loss. Anyone that loves animals has gone through that pain, and it never gets any easier. But you gave her love and comfort in that short time, and its obvious she did the same for you. Hope your heart hurts a little less as time goes by. Its a beautiful video. :')
awwwww i feel your pain completely my 17 year old cat junior died a few moths ago and we will always miss him forever T.T i wish i could have gotten some videos of him all we have left to remember him by is a picture of him next to the christmas tree skirt on my moms phone maybe kiara and junior will be good friends in heaven TuT that makes me smile at the thought of it
aww what a precious baby...I'm so sorry for your loss :( I'm going to adopt a fox kit one day (already have the breeder picked out) I'm glad you saved her from what would have been an even shorter life in the wild <3
Im so sorry for your loss hun ): I, among a bajillion others, know how it feels to loose someone close to you. I hope that she is having fun pouncing around in heaven <3 RIP baby Kiara
I-I've never seen such a friendly red fox before.....and she was named after my favorite anime feline.....most red foxes I've seen were savage canibals, as they preyed on other foxes, especially the peaceful snow foxes of the north. But your fox Kirara.....she's different somehow.
@TheGarlude it's Kiara like from Lion King II, not Kirara from Inuyasha (I love Kirara, though) I've never heard of cannibalistic foxes that weren't rabid or otherwise sick, tell me more! :0
Sad that her parents got killed, but she was very lucky that you were there to take her in. You gave her a life she wouldn't have had otherwise. In return, she gave you a rare insight to foxes that few people get to see first hand. And now, I am thankful that you have shared this story about her. My condolences for the loss.
That's what happened to my bob tail. Once they told me they couldn't stop the seizures I didn't want her to be in anymore pain cause she already went blind by them
So sweet and sad at the same time. I know you didn't mean to, but for others out there to know, raisins and sugar are poisonous to animals to the extreme. Many of you know, but some do not. Sorry for your loss ;(
I feed foxes in my garden & the only cub that every came in got killed by a cat ! I have been doing this for many years now & I am so glad to meet other foxy people :) Your story is so sad though. You did your best.
@sum0f1 If she did not die, you got lucky. At 4 weeks, that is when it is proper to separate her/him from mother for pet purposes. I have had my red fox Boxxy since she was 4 weeks old, but refuse to cage her, because i feel it is cruel to do so. I have vids of her on my profile.
@sum0f1 Kiara was in a crate when she was younger - but only during the day while she slept - but as she grew older i gradually stopped closimg the door and eventually took it away altogether (after everything had been fox-proofed!)
@sum0f1 She begun to have seizures and the vets said after a night of hospitalisation that it was best for her to be put to sleep - im still not sure whether the right descision was made as two hours prior to this (before the head vet was in) the other staff said she was 'much the same as last night' ie having small 10-20 second long seizures and then very sleepy.
@FoxieKiara Sometimes, Inari blesses us with her little messengers. Sadly there is always a time when they have to go home. It is believed though that as with all kitsune (fox spirits) they stay around waiting for the time when you and they will once again run and play. When you can be together forever.
