I agree, an articulate person is not necessarily intelligent, but a person who receives average scores on exams is not necessarily less than intelligent. Even intelligence exams, though objectively calculated, are based on subjective conceptions of what qualifies as intelligence. I don't discredit them entirely, but these (and most) tests don't/can't measure things like creativity or imagination, which I personally associate with intelligence. But that is my own subjective opinion.

I was watching a interview with Dido and Brian Eno's name came up,and I never heard of him before.I dig his music.This interview really opened my eyes to the trash we have on tv here in the US.The fire hose analogy is SO true.Very well said and very insightful.Music today is way over produced.What you hear on a cd,and what you hear live,are completely different.There are only a few artists that sound as good on CD,or tape as they do live.

Given the time of the interview, early 80's, he's thinking ahead and differently, and considering Eno was working with film and video at the time, relevant. Really wonderful to see Eno in action before he fully adopted the "Professor" persona. His interview style these days is much more measured, but it's kind of great to watch him in this clip dropping awesome science as usual but also being a little looser than we're used to seeing him.

I was 19 yrs. old in 1980. There were 3 networks at the time. No MTV or Cable. VCR's were expensive and rare. Vinyl was still king, No CD (remember laser discs?). Punk was considered new and faddish in the US and you could get seriously harassed and beat up if you looked different, wore 'weird' clothes and hair, etc. I could go...

Eno was an articulate theoretical and musical 'voice in the wilderness'. A breath of fresh air. Thanks for the post and the memories.
